It has no effect on the fan, and you can always go back to A05.

This is my first BIOS update to my 1500. Previously I had A04. This update has been awesome for me.

When I got my 1500 it came with MediaDirect 3.5. I deleted it along with all of the partitions and created one partition since I do not want to use Mediadirect. My hard drive is running in AHCI SATA mode.(SATA drivers were included on the DELL XP disk that came with my system.) After that everything worked fine except when I would try to boot using the Mediadirect button.(If I hit it by accident) This would give me the Mediadirect splash screen and then BSOD me. Everything would then be fine after a normal reboot. After updating to BIOS A06 I no longer get the BSODs if I try to boot using the Mediadirect button. It just loads Windows like normal and when it is finishes loading a message comes up and states I do not have Mediadirect installed.

Basically for me this BIOS has been the next best thing to completely disabling the mediadirect button. I now essentially have two power buttons which is great.

It is possible A05 would have fixed the BSOD issue for me but I never tried it.

Hi, new here. I'm wondering is it safe to do the BIOS update in the windows environment. I've just downgraded from a base unit PC to a laptop and in the PC building world people say NEVER EVER flash a BIOS within a windows environment its too risky and can brick the motherboard.

Is it possible to flash the BIOS for the vostro using a USB flash drive or is it OK to flash in windows?

    Thanks.
