    This is not normal.
My max temp when I overclock no my GPU is 98C when I game.

    Here is my idle temp:
(and no I don't live in a freezer, and the laptop doesn't feel hot or warm. Also, the fan is not spinning).

Do you have these temp when on battery (please wait about 30min for the system to cool down)
My guess is you have a background program that uses your GPU for no reason. Close ALL applications (use task manger) and wait 30min and see if it helps.

Or, Nvidia PowerMizer is somehow disabled. Check out my signature for my tweak tool that allows you to change the PowerMizer settings of your GPU (it's free). PowerMizer is Nvidia's power management technology. It basically slows down your GPU clock, shader clock and memory clock when you don't need the power, like your CPU.

If that doesn't help, then it could be heatsink, or motherboard issue. The Heatsink is does contact with the base of the laptop using it as a heatsink, it could have a bad contact there, or is miss installed or has a manufacture problem. Ask for a new heatsink replacement.. if that doesn't work, then call again, they should make a new system build.

The thing is that every processor is on the same heatsink.. so if you play a video or run a CPU intensive task than all temp go up. Websites has ads... and Flash content (youtube for example or ads) requires a lot of system power.

Now, if I disable Powermizer when system is plug-in (using my own tool, NvGPUPro) my GPU at idle is at 57-60C

A simpler explanation is that his system has the same overheating problems that my old system had, and that others have complained about.

On my pc it was disabled indeed (or otherwise put it wasn't enabled). Is Nvidea powermizer supposed to be enabled by default?

On laptops, yes. I am glad you used my tool without issue, hopefully will help upon restart of your computer. :)

These are my temps right now.. all I have is just Firefox open w/ 4 tabs (no flash/ads)

I thought Powermizer settings are enabled at Bios level & using Dell's nvidia win7 drivers.. I am going to try Goodbyte's NVGPUPro tool on my Dell's Win7 186.21 drivers.

    My Specs - P9600 2.66Ghz, 4GB RAM, WD 250GB (WD2500BJKT-75F4T0), Win7 RTM Ultimate.

After installing NVGPUPro tool by Goodbytes and enabled all the settings except the AGP one.

Did a reboot of system, fans starts blowing and till now didn't stop. Don't think my fans ever stopped though even before. Pretty much they stay on most of the time.

Also, I am not placing the laptop directly on the lap. I use Antec cooler, but I dont hook it up to laptop usb port for fan power. It gets too noisy w/ laptop fan and then antec cooler's fan, so I just use antec cooler to provide more ventillation to bottom of the laptop.

Guys who have 40C GPU temp constantly, are you using "Digital vibrance" feature at all? Even though I don't play games, only reason I got it w/ nvidia graphics since I loooveee digital vibrance feature of nvidia, makes colors look so lively and more colorful! I set it to 70%.

i thought for the E series and the new precisions HW Monitor was the only accurate temp program?

goodbytes: try installing HW Monitor and see if it says something else.

really weird that the temps are so high

i set mine to zero. anything more than 10% on my 2ccfl display and things look really weird. and somewhat painful to look at.

First check that Nvidia PowerMizer is REALLY turned on. To do this, open Everest, and go to "Computer" > "Overclock". At the bottom of the information page, you should see these speeds for the GPU:

Here are my temps from HWMonitor, Nvidia System Tools GPU Monitor (I think the one that must be correct, is the one from Nvidia), and Everest:
NOTE: I left my computer under Balance and idle on my desk (made of wood), for over 10 hours without screen saver (I have a desktop to use, so you can be ensure that I haven't touch my laptop). I can't be more idle than that!
Fan is not running on my system.

If you are running Win7 64-bit RC like myself, I did notice that PowerMizer doesn't work properly even on battery. Under Vista it is locked to minimum speed when on battery, under Win7 is acts like if the system is plug-in and overclock to normal speed just because of Aero. I still assume it's due to GPU drivers, lack of motherboard drivers, and any other official drivers on my system, and because Win7 RC is not final and it could be a bug.

If you performed a motherboard + heatsink replacement and that PowerMizer is working well, and that you are NOT at or under 50C idle for the GPU temperature, it could be, MAYBE, that Dell cheap-out on the thermal paste used.
