    Guys,

I feel E6400 w/ Nvidia has big design flaw w/ Heat!!! I had hopes Bios A15 would fix some of it.

Even though I used RMClock to reduce the voltage (it did drop 5-7C), the left side vent of the laptop blows VERY hot air out ALL THE TIME!! My graphic cards on a fresh boot starts at 58C and goes up to 68-70C w/ normal web usage (not even games).

By using Antec Cooler (No choice otherwise, which makes enough fan noise & feels much heavier) + laptop fans noise.. it feels like a desktop, rather than sleek and quiet notebook. Becuase of this fans noise + Heat I don't tend to use my laptop much often. My Dell XPS 720 desktop is much quieter to use. I felt previous D620/D630 were much better when controlling the heat.

Everyday I keep wondering and cursing on how could Dell sell such a thing w/ so much heat issues!! :(

It shouldn't be getting that hot. Give Dell a call and get it fixed.

My E6500 w/ Nvidia does have the fan constantly running at a slow speed, but it doesn't get nearly as hot yours.

I don't think the GPU generates that much heat, particularly when on idle.

Which CPU? What is the CPU utilisation on idle? Is the GPU temperature higher than the CPU temperature?

Unfortunately the E6400 with Nvidia does get that hot. With the fan running high, the GPU temperature is still as a 60C temp, way too high. This is idling, CPU running 1 or 2 %. See the attached temps. System has P8600 and a 7.2K Seagate HDD.

I believe this is correct. My GPU is most of the time 60+ C. the fan usually spins at 4800rpm. The screenshot is taken after at least one hour of inactivity.

I had that problem too. Have you tried gaming? My old E6400's GPU went up to more than 100ºC while gaming, and had idle temps around 55ºC. I asked Dell to fix it, and they replaced the motherboard and heatsink, which did not fix the problem. I then asked for a replacement laptop, which I am now using.

This new laptop has idle temps of 44ºC and maximum temps under GPU load just below 80ºC. At idle the fan is stopped. I advise all of you with those problems to ask Dell to replace mobo+heatsink (it worked on my father's E6400). If it doesn't work ask for a replacement.

You're the only one I know of that has an idling temp of 44C. What is your room temp?

Should be around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.

I do agree with the original poster that this is a design flaw -- my father's laptop also came with this problem, and there are too many people complaining about the very same issue. However, it does not affect everyone, so I would give Dell a chance to fix the problem. Worked for me.

This seems very strange. I don't understand why there would be such a wide temperature variance with the same laptop. My E6400 that I got from the outlet never gets that hot. I only use it at work, but when I'm running CAD programs and maybe streaming radio it may (the gpu) get up to 48C, at idle it's 40/41. The fan rarely comes on. This is with HWMonitor program.

one possibility is different components from different OEM's, another possibility could be improper application of the thermal paste/pads at the factory possibly.
