No problem. Yes I think you can get one for a good price with less spec. Try to put in only the things you need. Good luck.

U r right, I'm in the US. For some reason, I can't figure out why, but the Canadian deal seems better.

Yes. At the mean time. Dell.com doesn't have good offers on the new vostros. You might want to take a look at the XPS 1530.

I own a Vostro 1500 and a Vostro 1700 laptops. I love them both because of their sturdiness and very cool conservative look. The Vostro 1510 looks nice but IMO Dell went after the Thinkpad look. I also own a T60 and having the choice i'll take the T60 any day. No disrespect intended to Vostro 1510 owners. ;)

If I had the choice between a 1500 and Vostro 1510 i'd still take the 1500 because I still like the look of the 1500 and it's cheaper when configuring it. As the Vostro 1500 gets phased out of the system the price of the 1510 should drop overall to where the 1500 is currently sitting.

I've had my 1500 for a few months and I love it.

Great build quality, one of the best keyboards I've ever used, responsive touch-pad. Cool looks, decent array of ports. Loud and not-bad-quality speakers. Handy media buttons on the front (which is also where the speakers are), so you can listen to music and navigate an album with the lid closed. Good battery life, and generally cool and quiet.

Down-sides: the lid picks up fingerprints like you wouldn't believe. They are easy to wipe off with a micro-fiber cloth, but it does mean that it is difficult to keep smart all the time. Also, the screen I've got in mine has a tiny sweet-spot. Thirty degrees either side the colours get washed out, and at fifty degrees they have started to invert. A few degrees up or down will also alter the colours. It's nice and bright for one person to use, but for presentation purposes, it's not good. Not all screens are like mine, so don't let it put you off buying, but you should check the quality when you receive it, and send it back straight away if it's substandard. I wish I had done that with mine.

If you consider getting a 1510, bear in mind that it only has one mono speaker, and the lid is also sensitive to finger-prints. The lack of S-Video has already been mentioned.

I don't understand. I have two speakers on my laptop  . Does that still mean I got mono speaker? Does mono-speaker mean (one speaker)?

Another downside to the 1510 (if you're wanting to get better graphics) is that you can no longer get the nVidia 8600GT card. Last time I checked the 15" XPS is the remaining laptop left offering thtat card.

Has anybody else had display issues with the 1500? There is another thread in this category entitled "The Vostro 1500 screen looks horrible!" with pictures attached, and the screen display does look horrible. I'm wondering if it is a single defective product or if it is an epidemic. Or maybe upgrading the screen options would make a big difference.

I have the 1280x800 XGA Glossy TrueLife screen, and it's gorgeous.
