@LLavelle - After following all of the M4400 threads from the beginning, it does appear that the lockup problem has been remedied with the newer machines. In other words, if you are looking for the added portability of the smaller M4400, don't write it off as it appears that Dell may have fixed the lockup issues...

Yeah, you are right - I've just checked on the UK site for both Vista and XP 32 bit. i can only imagine this will come out shortly.

The Job Shuttle is supported in all Windows OS's. We are having problems getting some drivers posted on the support site, this being one of them. Should be up there soon.

    Blue screen of death ...

Unless you were doing something non-standard like over-clocking the GPU or CPU then any new computer, not to mention one costing ~$5000, with the blue screen of death will be the kiss of death to that manufacturer.

Can someone from Dell honestly tell us if the M6400 and M4400 with quad CPU and 8GB are stable functional machines?

Also, Dell should know and tell us, what is the expected battery life for high end M4400 and M6400 machines?

It is completely unacceptable that such expensive hardware appears to be in beta-test stage by consumers paying $4000-$6000.

By the way I am/was planning on RAID 0 so weird noises with this configuration really tops it off!

No overclocking was done during the testing because i have no clue how to do that...the blue screen was a result of a certain frequently used everyday application and also some driver problems which i will mention in my review. The noise on the other hand is something that came up on its own and i will most likely be calling Dell tech support to figure out exactly what is causing that.

The system is stable now with the only problem being the noise. It sounds like a faint TV signal loss.
I chose to comment on the blue screens just incase someone runs into the same problems i experienced.

I just called Dell's tech support and they do not have a solution to the problem becuase the system is still relatively new but i have been given a case number and i hope to recieve a feedback from their side as soon as possible. In the mean time, once i finish all i have to do to get the review out on time, I will search online to see if the hard drives do have a firmware update and if so, I will make a full system backup, disable the RAID setup and update the hard drive(s)

    update:
One of the managers got in touch with me and told me they will be replicating the system to try and solve the problem. If not they might ask for my system. The level of quick reponse kinda surprised me but it is good that they are giving attention to these sort of issues. At the end of the day, it is one of their flagship products.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes I saw I(love)RAM's post from yesterday saying his replacement M4400 had no problems. Although to be fair I(love)RAM messed with his M4400 so much that I'm not surprised there were problems.

On the other hand did you see the post by the guy who bought three M4400's for work and ALL THREE were continually locking up and his boss was pissed off ...

Now, apparently, the M6400 has blue screen of death.

Apparently M6400 battery life is ~1.5 hr.
Can anyone confirm or give more battery life details.

By the way the M4400 has ~4hr battery life which is okay.

    Thanks for the update.

Is it a high frequency noise?
If so, some people will not hear it all while for others it will drive them mad ...

Hey adoniteking, could you try to render this test on After Effects? Many people have tried at CGTalk and posted their results. Since you have AE running, it could be interesting to see how well the QX9300 performs!

Thanks for your time and effort! Can't wait to see or read your review!! Good luck with your project!
