    Hey Adoniteking,

Sorry to interupt here, but i am on the phone with DELL looking for the interposer for the M6400. ...and SOMEHOW they are SOOOO CONFUSED as to what im looking for. Such idiots. They dont even know what a M6400 is!!!!

Anyways, how much did the part cost you? I was quoted $12.71. $3.99 for the part, 8.00 for shipping and 0.72 for tax.

If you can do a quick favor... There should be an item number on your DELL ACCOUNT for the part. Can you retrieve that for me? and perhaps everybody else that will be looking for this part..

Did your package come in one plastic bag or several diff .bags.

lol! i am not so suprised with the lack of poor circulation on their new products to emloyees. I also had a similar case. luckily, the chap at the tech department was aware of the model and told me i was the first to call about it but they havent recieved their model to fiddle with.

I got the part sent to me for free because it is meant to be packaged with the HDD carrier and not something you buy seperately. You are paying $3000+ for a laptop that has been officially certified to come with a second hard drive bay. It does not make any sense for dell to give you the screws for the 2nd HDD and leave out the most important thing that connects your hard drive to the motheroard. If you are require d to pay for it, then they should not package the laptop with a second bay.
So it will be absolutely unprofessional or ethically wrong for Dell to charge you for an item that should be packaged with the laptop.

The tech guy i spoke too also mentioned that the laptop was designed from the ground-up to be a DIY system because they give you all the things neccesssary to upgrade your system. All you have to do is read the manual.

SO i think you need to call again and make a complain about this because you are not suppose to buy the item. (it came in a small plastic bag and box)

what exactly do you need? just the connector that goes into the hd or the bracket that holds the hd + the connector as well? i have a spare connector at home and can post to you for free. well, you'll just have to pay for an envelope and a stamp (2 euro would do). how does that sound?

I honestly can't believe that - There must be someone else out there with a 32bit OS who can confirm or deny this.

adoniteking, I need to order my notebook this week as budget cuts are expected next week that may impact getting a new machine.

Is there anything about the M6400 that is a serious problem?

Several M4400 owners have sever lockups and also overheating problems. Any sever problems like these with the M6400?

    Thanks.

I contacted Dell support via the online support chat because I knew I was going to have post a few links to get them to understand what I needed. I had to paste the link to the service manual that illustrates the interposer. I had to explain to him that even though I didn't order a second hard drive, the rest of the hardware was included for a second hard drive. I told him that others have received M6400's without this part and were sent the part overnight by Dell support.

He told me that the part would be included if I ordered another drive. I told him I already had a drive I wanted to use, so if he could give me the part number for the interposer, I'd be happy to order one. He couldn't find it, of course, and I then told him that it probably was part of a kit, part number 0J501F. He then said, "Yeah, I just ran across that. I'll ship you this kit right away."

    Good luck!

There are many issues...i got the blue screen so many times( i really cannot count) that i became use to the event. Infact i always knew when it will occur because we had bonded.

I almost spilled out a chunk of my review in an earlier comment but you will have to wait to read that...sorry:(

The issues are not soo bad except one which am still working on a solution..The laptop makes an irritating sound when i switch to battery. This was not present before so it might have to do with RAID 0 striping
