HTC and Motorola say they don’t slow old phones like Apple does-Theverge.com
"HTC and Motorola say they don’t throttle their phones’ processor speeds as their batteries age, something the bastards Apple last week acknowledged doing to prevent errors after iPhone owners documented slowdowns. In emails to The Verge, both companies said they do not employ similar practices with their smartphones. An HTC spokesperson said that designing phones to slow down their processor as their battery ages “is not something we do.” A Motorola spokesperson said, “We do not throttle CPU performance based on older batteries.”

Samsung and LG Take A Dig At Apple, Claim That They Don’t Slow Down Their Phones With Older Batteries-Wccftech.com
"Interestingly, before Apple turned to revealing its activities to users, HTC and Motorola clarified that their Android devices do not run such practices. After HTC and Motorola, LG and Samsung today said that they also do not indulge in throttling their devices and compromise on performance. LG said,“Never have, never will! We care what our customers think.”

Are anyone going to change the batteries of your phone? Mine is an iPhone 6s, but I'm not sure if I can trust apple now. Who knows what kind of new battery they offer now...
Feedbacks for iPhone X can be quite different. My mom loves it very much, saying the face recognition is super convenient. One of my friends, however, says it's not convenient at all cause she needs to face the phone everytime even if she just wants to simply check something on the phone. Overall my friend believes the price is too high and the new functions don't seem to be worth that price.

2. The iphone x is a big step backwards in useability and functionality. They did things "to be different" not better. I would get the 8 instead of the X imo. Removing the fingerprint scanner is a dumb thing to do. Facial recognition has it's place for making you into a emoji and that garbage....but for user functionality, its garbage. How does apple pay work? you tap your phone, the hold your phone up to your face like a wanker? Seems stupid to me.Vasudev likes this. -
Apple’s $29 replacement batteries expected to hurt new iPhone sales
Thursday, January 4, 2018 · 12:30 pm
http://macdailynews.com/2018/01/04/...-batteries-expected-to-hurt-new-iphone-sales/
"“There’s a very good business reason as to why Apple priced iPhone battery replacements at $79, and it isn’t profit,” Matthew Humphries writes for PC Magazine. “By making a battery replacement relatively expensive, more existing iPhone owners with failing batteries are likely to decide to upgrade to a newer model instead, which is even more profitable for Apple. However, that situation is expected to change this year.”
“Analysts at Barclays are expecting iPhone sales to drop during 2018 thanks to Apple’s cheap battery replacement program which is already available,” Humphries writes. “The iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, and iPhone SE all qualify for the $29 battery replacement.”
“Those models currently make up 77 percent of the iPhone market,” Humphries writes, “meaning even a small percentage of owners opting for a new battery instead of a new iPhone will result in a significant fall in iPhone sales.”
Read more in the full article here.
MacDailyNews Take: As we wrote yesterday:
If iPhone sales are negatively impacted, you can see why some think that Apple wanted to keep what they were doing a secret. If people knew that a $79 battery replacement would give them an iPhone that performed like it did on day one, a meaningful percentage would take that option versus buying a new iPhone. Now that it’s just $29 this year, that percentage will naturally increase.
Then again, as Hanlon’s razor states: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”
Apple’s made up of people. People are imperfect. We’ll take Apple’s word for it that they “always wanted… customers to be able to use their iPhones as long as possible” and that they “have never — and would never — do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades.”"
Apple will lose iPhone sales with battery replacements
By JULES WANG JANUARY 3, 2018 9:55 PM
http://pocketnow.com/2018/01/03/apple-iphone-sales-loss-2018-battery-replacements
"Apple is left cleaning up after itself after addressing how it slows older iPhones to protect the device from malfunctioning — all without telling anyone in the meantime. The bad news is that it probably won’t be able to make money from upgrades for some time thanks to its amelioration efforts. The good news? Apple will still end up as one of the most trusted brands in technology.
Barron’s picked up on a note from Mark Moskowitz of Barclays projecting a “significant” draw from iPhone sales in favor of subsidized battery replacements at $29 apiece starting immedately.
The thinking is that those holding older iPhones (the iPhone 6, 6s, 7, respective Plus models and SE) who may have eventually upgraded to a newer iPhone within the next year or so has been incentivized to take the discounted repair — the iPhone should detect that a new battery has been placed and that the processor should work at full blast again.
“Due to the large base, even a small percentage opting for battery replacement over upgrade could have meaningful impact on iPhone sales,” Moskowitz writes.
On a conservative estimate of a 519 million eligibility base for these discounted repairs as of the end of 2017, Barclays models a 10 percent adoption rate over the course of the year and a 30 percent drop in upgrades. This could mean a sales impact of 16 million new units in 2018, creating about a 4 percent or $10.3 billion slip from the bank’s forecast for iPhone revenues.

Cheap Replacement Batteries Expected to Hit iPhone Sales
https://www.pcmag.com/g00/news/358273/cheap-replacement-batteries-expected-to-hit-iphone-sales
"I think the knock-on effect of cheap batteries will extend beyond the end of 2018 when Apple's offer ends. Everyone who opts to have a $29 battery replacement will see their existing iPhone speed up again, demonstrating that you really don't need the latest model to continue enjoying the iOS experience.
So next time the phone gets slow, there's a greater chance of another battery replacement being selected (even at a higher price) than buying a new iPhone 8, iPhone X, or whatever comes next. And don't forget, even if you don't have an iPhone that qualifies for a cheap Apple battery because it is too old, iFixit is matching Apple's pricing and includes older models."Last edited: Jan 5, 2018Vasudev likes this. -
Agreed with that article HMscott. I am not upgrading to the new iphones. I am holding on to our 3 6s devices, and just getting the batteries replaced right before the "warranty for batteries" runs out. New battery, last 2 more years. Nothing apple has released since the 6s has "WOW'ed" us. The 6s is the sweet spot for apple phones....you get forcetouch, 3.5mm jack, nice screen, great battery life. I ran mine ALL DAY yesterday without being charged the night before with 4 hrs on screen time and still had 49 percent battery life left. I have a bunch of cases, accessories and so on for our 6sssssss so I will just keep them until apple drops OS support. Should be another 3 years of full OS support.

I tried Passmark Performance Test app and it showed that the iphone 7 nearly beat iphone 8 by 200-400 points.
I felt Geekbench was expensive when purchasing for a single device. Any deals for Geekbench PC version that can use the same license for all devices. -
Exactly why we are keeping our 6s devices Vasudev!

NOPE...ha ha! My son wanted the new 8 for Christmas, just cause...so he got one. I am keeping his 6s for when he starts in with his 8...ha ha.
I just placed my order for a new CRF 250 Rally adventure bike. My iphone is going to be my navigation, entertainment, and digital display for the dash of the bike. I have the lifeproof case for it to keep dust, mud and rain off the phone when travelling. I have the Bluetooth communication headsets in my wife's and my helmets so we can little to apple music while toolin around the back country! can't wait to get the bike in my shop to prep it for the spring! -
I am selling a new lemon in exchange for an older lemon. Hahaaaa. -
I am hoping they continue to use the iphone 5/5S/SE shell for the iphone SE2. This is by far my favorite apple design, all they need to do is upgrade the cameras, processor, antennas, and battery pack and they have another instant hit.

Offset by smaller screen Vasudev. That being said, I have unplugged my 6s at 8am this morning. Using my phone fairly heavily today...it's now 2:35pm and I am still on 85% battery life. I don't see the drain you are seeing. My wife's phone is the same. unplugged at 8am, and actually used hers much heavier than mine and she's at 81%. It's not the OS.

Do you have good reception? On LTE, 10% drain per minute, on 3g 1% drain per hour on usage, otherwise stays on certain percentage for 8-12hrs and suddenly reduces battery %age by 2-5%.hmscott likes this. -
I think you have an issue with your phone ....thats terrible. Do you still have warranty? I would call apple and see what they could do. I got the screen replaced free of charge on my son's iphone 6s from when he destroyed it at a party in university last year. It was even out of warranty. I have great reception on my iphone actually. Better than my last Samsung note.

Apple Faces U.S. House Republican Inquiry Following iPhone Throttling Fiasco-hothardware.com
Apple is now facing a potential inquiry from House Republicans who want answers from on its throttling policy. Four of the U.S. House Republicans, including the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook on Friday.
The letter asks Cook to answer questions about throttling older iPhones with batteries that have lost performance. The letter also expressed concern over an iPhone battery that overheated and began to smoke recently in Switzerland. Apple is also facing inquiries from the U.S. Senate as well with Senator John Thune, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, having sent a similar letter to Apple on Tuesday. At this point Apple has offered no official statement on either letter.
Apple is currently facing a number of class action lawsuits over throttling of devices with older batteries. Apple's competition is taking advantage of “ThrottleGate” fiasco and have announced they would never throttle older devices. -
IMO, it's all hype. I rather the iphone 8 because it's much more user friendly than the X. the whole face ID thing is a HUGE step backwards. Having to hold your phone in front of your face every time you purchase something etc. NO THANKS. plus, when you unlock, you still have to slide up etc. With the fingerprint scanner, you just hold your finger on it and it's unlocked and open.

Apple’s Problems With The iPhone X’s Low Demand Have Resulted In Samsung Cutting Down OLED Production For First Time In Years
"Apple’s iPhone X woes are becoming commonplace everyday. While there was a lot of hype surrounding the device after its launch, now, things have cooled down. Looks like folks do not want to pay $1,000 for an iPhone with an OLED display and Facial recognition. Now that early adopters for the device start to fizzle out, the market is having a hard time adjusting to Apple’s tenth anniversary iPhone."

Did Apple Just Cancel The iPhone X?
Why Apple Will Cancel iPhone X & Crazy 512GB iPhone Mod!
IDK, I sure hope Apple wakes up and fills in the "notch" for a 100% edge to edge screen, make the "selfie-cam" a "pop-up" camera instead of cutting out that damn ugly and function ruining notch - it's gotta be the dumbest idea Apple have ever tried to shove down customers - they don't want it, nobody does!!

Quarterly figures: iPhone X brings record sales and leaps in profits at Apple
Apple sells fewer iPhones, but still delivers a top quarter with new records in sales and profits. According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the iPhone X has been the best-selling iPhone since November. Yeah, of course the Iphone X bring profits because of the hefty price

Apple iphone X must be called off and people should never ever buy a $1000 phone just for calling, texting, browsing, camera. I feel we get much better phones below that price. If iPhone X had DeX like feature, investing 1000$ is no problem for most since they replace or sell their iPads/MBA.
