Especially since the HM series does not suffer enduro issues so works very well with the 7970M.

Is back lighting really that important to you? You could always get a non backlit MSI keyboard and mod it to fit if you want the better key action, I believe the keyboard tray area is the same on the HM and EM series (worth double checking, in which case the mod would work, just no backlight).

My Stock keyboard is very good. I want the SS keyboard just because it has backlight :/

Im a little off, what do you mean with enduro issues?
My P170HM is 2011 and has 6970M, I believe it doesnt support AMD 7xxx series. Or does it?

The SS backlight wont work actually on the HM models as the motherboard doesnt have the power port for it.

The 7970M will work in the Sager NP9170 per conditions:

    NP8170 (P170HM) w/ NVIDIA GPU + 120hz 3D LCD Panel AMD 7970M is not supported.

NP8170 (P170HM) w/ NVIDIA or AMD GPU + Hannstar LCD Panel, AMD 7970M is supported.

NP8170 (P170HM) w/ NVIDIA or AMD GPU + LG LCD panel, AMD 7970M may or may not be supported, special EDID Firmware may need to be flashed to the LCD panel. Sager can provide this firmware update as long as the user pays for both way shipping & labor.

I would like to chime in that the SS mod I have in the 9150 is awesome. It took a little time to get use to mostly because I have been using a crappy, old, laptop keyboard on the NP2090. The chiclet style is I think better than the Mac keyboards which I've used quite a bit. I like the firmness of the SS. XoticPC did a great job with the mod!

I hope that utility will actually come out one day, I'm not holding my breath though. I've memorized a couple of the FN keys that I use often. I don't usually use the other functions anyways

Has the software for the SS keyboard remapping became available yet?

Also does anyone or can anyone please provide a video of comparison of both keyboard in either. 9150 or 9170?

    Thanks

No software yet, MSI is still keeping the reigns on that.

The comparison is hard to describe in a video, the action is better as is the typing feel.

I might be stupid, but where can I find this keyboard? I can't seem to even find a model number for it. I'm guessing finding a swedish version of it is out of the question?

MSI has closed ranks on letting this keyboard out as a spare part so it is now VERY difficult to find one.

What's happening with the steelseries engine support for the keyboard so I can map the Fn keys. I'm waiting and waiting, but I don't see anything coming.

Can I just confirm the model number and make of the SS Keyboard that is compatible ith the 150EM - also - do the back-lights all work and are the keys more responsive than the standard keyboard's?

Just a heads up everyone, it took a while but we now have "Backlilt Chiclet Style Clevo-Chassis Compatible Keyboards" back and ready to roll. Still have the mis-labeled issue which is not fun, but for those that like the chiclets better, come and get them =)

Also compatible on the P370 and P570 too obviously.

Hi guys, does anyone know how I can get one of these (for my clevo p170em) in the UK? I just can't find any UK-based reseller offering these (online), I got the laptop from PCS, however I don't suppose they actually sell MSI spares, so haven't contacted them :)
I think I saw a link to a Dutch reseller offering these, however I'd much prefer to get the keyboard from UK based vendor

Due to Steelseries restrictions on their use they're pretty hard to find and resellers aren't allowed to advertise them as being available. It's probably best just to write a cookie cutter email and send it to all the resellers that you'd like to check with in the UK and hope for the best.

I know we don't have that ability. You'd probably want to touch base with an MSI builder based in Sweden as they may have some around for parts.

    Hi Mythlogic.

I will soon be an owner of a P370SM3 (sorry, went for an italian reseller, santech, since I'm not a USA citizen).

Would it be possible to use the chiclet SS keyboard on this note? Is it easy to install or require adaption that could invalidate the warrant? What is the cost of this piece (even in PM is fine)? :)

Thank you for the clarification :)

I have a Clevo P150EM laptop, the Battalion 101 from ibuypower. As far as I can tell the MSI Genuine GT60, GT70, GX60, GX70 SteelSeries Full Color Backlit Keyboard (Win 8 UI) S1N-3EUS204-SA0 is the keyboard I would want to buy. But I am not positive because part numbers / serial numbers aren't exact and the one on my comp is produced by Sunrex (even though it looks identical) to Sager Genuine NP9150, NP9170 & Clevo Genuine P150EM, P170EM Full Color Backlit Keyboard 6-80-P2700-012-3 any suggestions or help? Don't just want to toss over $100 on a guess.

    I have a big problem.

So I just bought the keyboard that you confirmed to be the right one. But all my keys are messed up.

The FN key is now the "0" key in the numpad.

And if I type "qwerty" I see this "4q`nh".

    Please help.

I'd contact the people you bought the board from as that should not be happening. The QWERTY keys are in the same position on both boards and should not be misrepresented when typed on.

I tried reseating the cables several times. But no luck. It's also not a windows problem I tried to remap all the keys with KeyTeak but some of the keys gave me the same keycode.

I think the new Steelseries (win 8 ui version) is not compatible with the p150EM or Sager in general.

Do you guys have any other suggestions to make this work?

Those keyboards need to be ground down on both sides to get it fit into the keyboard slot of the EM's. I advise you to get the standard backlit Clevo keyboard.

Clevo/sager or MSI have made a change to the way the keystrokes are registered. This could be deliberate or purely coincidental.

Not really, MSI may have made the change, it was totally accidental they were the same in electrically in the first place.

    Hello,

I popped a key on my clevo p170em and I am in the need of a new one. Are the steel series compatible with them now? Or I am stuck to buy one for my specific model from pcspecialist (where I purchased the laptop)?

Ok so I was fortunate enough to buy both the p170em and the msi gt70 from ebay UK at a very good price with some work to get them running, all good on that front and can state I absolutely HATE the stock keyboard on the SAGER the space is horrendous and the feel when you type etc. is rubbish, so I have removed the keybaord from the GT70 and installed into the CLEVO, needs some work to file down the top, bottom and sides to make it fit properly but the feel and the look is awesome, ps (any guides on the easiest way to file these down?) my main concern however was I intended to fit the naff stcok p170em keyboard into the MSI HOWEVER when I type the keyboard gives random letters and numbers and some keys nothing? Any ideas what this may be caused by? is the P170em Keyboard a WINDOWS 8 keyboard like I have read some people having issues with?

    Cheers
