I can tell you i had them apply IC Diamond and that's probably the difference in temperatures everyone else is reporting... I've never seen anything close to 80 unless i'm readin CPUID wrong but i don't see how i could be. The vents don't even push out much heat i'll put my hand by it to judge how hot they are getting, that was before i got a laptop cooler. My 8672 17inch doesn't even heat up but it's NEVER a bad idea to have a laptop cooler just for the sake of keeping your upwards of 2000$ safe. That said, always go IC diamond, apparently they can reach 80 degrees without it

When i was playing without the cooler the bottom of mine never got hot, it got warm. What kind of game is this that is burning your laptop up and did you have IC Diamond applied to both gpu and cpu cause the GPU should def not be that high. The CPU i heard can be high if you don't have IC diamond and im inclined to believe it since i have it

Star citizen is an alpha game being developed for PC only, its recommended configuration is likely not released yet.

Thanks for this post. I was having the same issue with the few games i play. Downgraded to Sager's 344 driver and the random frame drops indeed to happen less and i'm getting slighly better FPS in Arma 3 and Rust. I may try other drivers between 344.00 and the newest to see if any alleviate the frame drops even further or all together.

I had the default paste configuration, whatever that is.
I ordered coollaboratory liquid pro. I'll post before and after for various stress tests, the information might be useful to someone else.

Just shot Sager an email asking for an ETA on your build.

Update- It looks like they're expecting shipping out as of this coming Wednesday.

    Hello,

So I'm planning on selling my current laptop for the P670 (not sure which GPU I want), but what I want to know is what the battery life looks like on the device. I heard from reviews of the P650 that web browsing can yield up to 5-6 hours of use, however I don't know how that translates over to the larger screen. I would like the better battery life, but I've gotten so accustomed to gaming + media consumption on my 17" screen that i can't see myself going back to 15" displays. Thanks for the help!

Battery life on a beast gaming laptop is never high, maybe Or 4 off the hook watching Netflix. Pretty good I guess but yeah usually depends on how I'm feeling I usually leave it on the charger while gaming and only take it off to give the battery a break.

I tried nearly all drivers after 344.00 as well as the newest desktop driver (modified inf) and they all seem to cause random frame drops and lower overall FPS (5-10FPS). I tested Arma 3 using this benchmark as well as gameplay on King of the hill. I also tested Rust and Payday 2 with general gameplay.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issues with these or other games? To elaborate; these games, with the exception of Arma 3, average 45-60+FPS but will randomly drop to below 10FPS at random for about a second. It just happens significantly less with the Sager-supplied 344.00 driver as compared to the newer, vanilla nvidia drivers.

Upgraded to whatever Prema's latest was. Pretty sure it was using the latest stock BIOS.

Does anyone have any idea when an IPS screen is going to be available for this model? I heard rumours mentioning mid to late march, are these rumours accurate?

i personally wouldn't **** around with the BIOS unless sager releases it, did you for sure delete the drivers it came with and any others for the 980? Dropping to like 18 is rare for me it only happens at like random times not enough to bother me on ESO

Im wondering about the whole bios discussion going on. When I get it, what prema should I install based on consensus of whats working best?

UPSguy, Prema BIOS are based off of Clevo/Sager's stock BIOS files it's just modified to add access to more advanced features. From what i've read, Prema BIOS's are quite tested and curated by hundreds of thousands of users.

Alright, bought one of these a while ago.

I'm having this issue that when I have static that built up, and I touch the wristrest (brushed metal part) I either have the HDD click or the computer BSOD (Windows is on a SSD).. Anybody else having this issue? Kinda worried that I'm slowly killing my HDD and SSD.

Eh i heard it replaces the sager start up to prema so sager won't fix or care about your laptop if you do something like that, sounds like a bigger negative than positive to me

Changes depend on the model, and firmware used can be different versions.

Using community created firmware of course has warranty implications that you need to think about before flashing.

I am also interested in this. A rep posted in another thread that a 17.3 IPS screen was added to the P771ZM.
I'm interested in the model of the IPS display if anyone knows.
So far I haven't gotten any specifics, just personal opinions from others.

I'm torn between the Asus G751jy and the Clevo/Sager NP8672.
One of the factors I've been trying to compare is the sound of the fans at idle, web browsing and when gaming.
I've already seen various videos of the G751jy and it seems pretty damn quiet, which is impressive.

Can anyone post some videos of the fan noise or post some links to videos you may have found?
My Google foo is pretty good, but I still have not found any videos showing the fan noise.
    Cheers...

This is all i've ever seen that comes close to what you're looking for. I can tell you that on my NP8671 i cannot hear my fans at idle and i typically game with a headset + lap cooler fans running but before i had the lapcooler i don't remember hearing the fans during gaming when i didn't wear a headset. The only time i notice the fans is when i turn on cooling beast mode (Fn + 1).

I'm plugged in to AC almost 100% of the time. I even tried plugging the laptop into another outlet because maybe there was an issue with grounding, but still getting shocked. I will note that most of the time when I do get shocked, I hear the HDD click.. Which is probably not good.. lol.

EDIT: Shocks while on Battery as well. Just walked around the office sliding my feet for a couple of seconds and touched it. Didnt BSOD though. Anybody else have this issue with this model..?

Its gotta be a grounding issue somewhere then. Probably best to send it in for warranty service.

I put in a RMA request nearly 3 weeks ago I'm pretty sure. I've been working with Eric Foy, with no reply for a week, and no reply from Sager.

It would be nice to actually have this fixed. Maybe you can help push something along. If you look at my previous posts, this is not my first rodeo with Sager.. I don't even know why I bought another one of these things again. All I know, is that I am very unhappy with how Sager treats their customers and do business. From what I have experienced, laptops are just as poor as their customer service.

XoticPC is great though. Not to get them confused with Sager.

Meaker, does Sager/XPC void the warranty if a custom BIOS is installed, Prema BIOS to be exact? I planned on buying an extended warranty through XPC (laptop purchased through XPC) but if this is the case then I definitely won't waste my money.

I installed Prema's BIOS so that i would have more control over my RAM timings since i installed some 1866 chips in it. I don't plan on using it to overvolt/overclock CPU/GPU.

So long as it doesn't brick the system it wouldn't be something that would void the warranty. In the event that any repairs are ever needed it'd be best to flash the stock BIOS back onto it though as Sager could potentially use that as reasoning for any damage occurred to the hardware if it came down to it.

I just put in an order for a p670sg with xoticpc. I was just wondering does anybody know if it will be possible to alter the keyboard back light color?

Just for clarification, I understand that this is not a feature. I'm wondering if it's possible to mod it. It would be really cool if xoticpc could offer a choice of keyboard back light colors in the customization options.

    Thanks Derek.
I asked this question earlier but i think it was missed; if one buys an extended warranty from Sager; say the 3-year, does it add on to the original 1-yr warranty for a total of 4-years? Or does it just extend it to 3-years total?
Also, can i get a Witcher 3 game code? ;)

Drrockso, you'd have to modify the keyboard and physically change the LED's to a different color. Unless they make a multi-colored LED replacement, but i highly doubt it. Even if they did, i'm not sure how you would change the colors.

I have an order in with you guys for one right now. Would it be possible to get you guys to check into it with mine, and if it is possible then make the modification and add whatever associated cost there is to my tab and contact me for payment. Delays in build time wouldn't be an issue, as I work away from home, and wouldn't see the notebook until a month from now anyways.

It extends it to whatever you buy, so 3 years is 3 total years. It replaces the 1 year.

Whats going on guys...I have been looking at a new laptop to purchase and I think I am going to go with either the Sager NP8651 or Sager NP8671. With both builds the NP8651 with the upgraded IPS screen is 15 dollars more than the NP8671. Listed below are the upgraded items I put in both :
    - 16 gig ram.
    - 128 gig SSD.
    - IC Diamond thermal paste.

I am wondering if the NP8651's IPS screen is worth it...there is no option for the IPS on the NP8671. How will heat be with a smaller laptop with the above extra components I am placing inside compared to the NP8671.

    Thanks for the help.

    Tony.

Heat has been well handled on both of these models, with no common overheating issues.

IPS is nice if you will be doing things which benefit from that technology like photo editing. For gaming, while IPS screens have become better in recent years a TN panel is typically going to be the better choice for the faster response time.

Will the size make a difference for you, as in will you travel much with it or will you be on the move a lot with it like a student?

It will mainly sit on my desk hooked up to an external monitor 90% of the time. Maybe the 17" may be the best pic then.

Another heat update - I finally got my 8672 w/ stock paste. Hottest I can get it sitting flat on wood desk is ~85, running multithreaded super-Pi for a while. Doesn't worry me, as 95% of its life will be on cooling pad where it's just over 70 at full CPU load. Putting the CPU under full load seems to put the temp higher for me than GPU full load, running both 3dMark and super-pi was still 85C flat on the desk. I'll probably put better paste on it someday, but good for now.

On a sidenote, the slimmed down profile and slightly lower weight over my Sager NP-8270-S is fantastic, even though it's not a huge difference. this guy feels a lot more portable and will certainly be less of a shoulder strain on the business trips.

Great build quality, no problems for me so far, I'll report back if anything comes up. Thanks Xotic and Sager/Clevo!

@gregmattersen - You can also simply prop the laptop up by an inch or two over investing in a cooling pad. That extra inch+ makes a difference in cooling potential.

Good to hear it's treating you well, all the same!
