I can tell you i had them apply IC Diamond and that's probably the difference in temperatures everyone else is reporting... I've never seen anything close to 80 unless i'm readin CPUID wrong but i don't see how i could be. The vents don't even push out much heat i'll put my hand by it to judge how hot they are getting, that was before i got a laptop cooler. My 8672 17inch doesn't even heat up but it's NEVER a bad idea to have a laptop cooler just for the sake of keeping your upwards of 2000$ safe. That said, always go IC diamond, apparently they can reach 80 degrees without it

Solid feedback guys. And thanks for the thermals input, UPS!

Hello,
So I'm planning on selling my current laptop for the P670 (not sure which GPU I want), but what I want to know is what the battery life looks like on the device. I heard from reviews of the P650 that web browsing can yield up to 5-6 hours of use, however I don't know how that translates over to the larger screen. I would like the better battery life, but I've gotten so accustomed to gaming + media consumption on my 17" screen that i can't see myself going back to 15" displays. Thanks for the help! -

Is anyone else experiencing the same issues with these or other games? To elaborate; these games, with the exception of Arma 3, average 45-60+FPS but will randomly drop to below 10FPS at random for about a second. It just happens significantly less with the Sager-supplied 344.00 driver as compared to the newer, vanilla nvidia drivers. -

Does anyone have any idea when an IPS screen is going to be available for this model? I heard rumours mentioning mid to late march, are these rumours accurate?

hey guys... I pulled the trigger on a P670SG !!! Actually my partner in America did for me.... We had to order one from Amazon, and I told him the model and its already purchased.
Cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im wondering about the whole bios discussion going on. When I get it, what prema should I install based on consensus of whats working best? -
-
Alright, bought one of these a while ago.
I'm having this issue that when I have static that built up, and I touch the wristrest (brushed metal part) I either have the HDD click or the computer BSOD (Windows is on a SSD).. Anybody else having this issue? Kinda worried that I'm slowly killing my HDD and SSD. -

Changes depend on the model, and firmware used can be different versions.
Using community created firmware of course has warranty implications that you need to think about before flashing. -
I'm interested in the model of the IPS display if anyone knows.
So far I haven't gotten any specifics, just personal opinions from others. -
I'm torn between the Asus G751jy and the Clevo/Sager NP8672.
One of the factors I've been trying to compare is the sound of the fans at idle, web browsing and when gaming.
I've already seen various videos of the G751jy and it seems pretty damn quiet, which is impressive.
Can anyone post some videos of the fan noise or post some links to videos you may have found?
My Google foo is pretty good, but I still have not found any videos showing the fan noise.
Cheers... -

It would be nice to actually have this fixed. Maybe you can help push something along. If you look at my previous posts, this is not my first rodeo with Sager.. I don't even know why I bought another one of these things again. All I know, is that I am very unhappy with how Sager treats their customers and do business. From what I have experienced, laptops are just as poor as their customer service.
XoticPC is great though. Not to get them confused with Sager.Last edited: Mar 20, 2015 -

I installed Prema's BIOS so that i would have more control over my RAM timings since i installed some 1866 chips in it. I don't plan on using it to overvolt/overclock CPU/GPU. -

I just put in an order for a p670sg with xoticpc. I was just wondering does anybody know if it will be possible to alter the keyboard back light color?
Just for clarification, I understand that this is not a feature. I'm wondering if it's possible to mod it. It would be really cool if xoticpc could offer a choice of keyboard back light colors in the customization options.Last edited: Mar 23, 2015 -
I asked this question earlier but i think it was missed; if one buys an extended warranty from Sager; say the 3-year, does it add on to the original 1-yr warranty for a total of 4-years? Or does it just extend it to 3-years total?
Also, can i get a Witcher 3 game code? -

Whats going on guys...I have been looking at a new laptop to purchase and I think I am going to go with either the Sager NP8651 or Sager NP8671. With both builds the NP8651 with the upgraded IPS screen is 15 dollars more than the NP8671. Listed below are the upgraded items I put in both :
- 16 gig ram.
- 128 gig SSD.
- IC Diamond thermal paste.
I am wondering if the NP8651's IPS screen is worth it...there is no option for the IPS on the NP8671. How will heat be with a smaller laptop with the above extra components I am placing inside compared to the NP8671.
Thanks for the help.

IPS is nice if you will be doing things which benefit from that technology like photo editing. For gaming, while IPS screens have become better in recent years a TN panel is typically going to be the better choice for the faster response time.
Will the size make a difference for you, as in will you travel much with it or will you be on the move a lot with it like a student? -

Another heat update - I finally got my 8672 w/ stock paste. Hottest I can get it sitting flat on wood desk is ~85, running multithreaded super-Pi for a while. Doesn't worry me, as 95% of its life will be on cooling pad where it's just over 70 at full CPU load. Putting the CPU under full load seems to put the temp higher for me than GPU full load, running both 3dMark and super-pi was still 85C flat on the desk. I'll probably put better paste on it someday, but good for now.
On a sidenote, the slimmed down profile and slightly lower weight over my Sager NP-8270-S is fantastic, even though it's not a huge difference. this guy feels a lot more portable and will certainly be less of a shoulder strain on the business trips.
Great build quality, no problems for me so far, I'll report back if anything comes up. Thanks Xotic and Sager/Clevo! -

@gregmattersen - You can also simply prop the laptop up by an inch or two over investing in a cooling pad. That extra inch+ makes a difference in cooling potential.
Good to hear it's treating you well, all the same!
