I have a Sager 8652 0n order through Xotic PC, I ordered the 15.4" notebook cooler for it as well. I Am having a hard time finding information for this cooler. Does anyone have any intel for the coolers offered through Xotic PC. Also do you owners have any intel on if I really need a cooler for this laptop?

I simply use my cooler as a good platform to put the stands to keep it raised and to mark an area not to put stuff so I can always place it down.

    The airflow is not needed.

Received my NP8672 on Tuesday. Ordered with stock paste with the intention to repaste if needed. So far haven't needed to: After a 3hr WoW session (Ultra settings) last night and HWiNFO64 running max CPU temp was 70. Max GPU was 69. Like Prostar suggests, I do keep the back of the laptop propped up about an inch for better airflow.

Max temps have been with Heaven Benchmark 4.0 with the GPU reaching 74. Totally happy so far as this is my DTR and almost matches the performance of my Haswell desktop build from 2 years ago.

New NP8671 (XoticPC) with a few quirks/issues. I can start a new thread if need be. I do love the look, slim form factor, weight and screen of this laptop.

    Basics:
    - Win 7 64-bit Ultimate (full Win Updates, drivers off Clevo CD).
    - Mushkin 1TB SSD
    - 16GB (2x8GB) HyperX RAM
    - MS Sculpt Wireless KB
    - Logitech G9X Wireless Mouse
    - GeForce 347.88 driver

    1. At first the space bar only seemed to work about half the time (I use my right thumb to hit the space key). Every other key works fine. I did re-seat the two keyboard connectors, no change. After a bit more use, it still misses quite a bit but not as much as 3 days ago.

    2. At first, every time I turned off my laptop, I would get a loud buzzing sound from my speakers (required pulling 3.5mm plug from laptop). I had my original NP8150 in the same exact location and configuration, same speakers, laptop and speakers plugged into the exact previous power plugs. I did move the new laptop power brick over to the same power strip as the speakers, and now it only happens about every 1 in 10 power down scenarios. When it does happen, turning the laptop back on makes the buzzing stop.

    3. Have a 23" Acer (same as was used w/ original NP8150) hooked up as a 2nd monitor via HDMI. About half the time the screen saver comes on, when I go hit a key or move the mouse, the laptop screen is normal, but the external monitor turns to pure static (like no reception on a TV set). I have to unplug the HDMI cable, plug it back in, then go set up extended monitors in Screen Resolution of Win 7.

    4. The Sound Blaster X-FI3 MB driver seems to disappear. After a few reboots, when Windows starts, I get a "No supported audio device found" message. Reinstalling the driver and rebooting makes the app work again.

    5. Slow boot. Takes 15 seconds to get to the screen where I can type in my password. Once that is done, the welcome screen is with a spinning circle for 30 seconds, then a black screen for over a minute or more with a spinning circle until the desktop shows up. I ran the built in Win7 Performance Tool and it points to "Desktop Window Manager " that is taking 89000ms(?) to boot. Gives a reason of "Graphics subsystem resources are over-utilized". Went to msconfig, unchecked all startup items, same slow boot.

I'll look at seeing if there are any updated drivers, but at first glance, I'm up to date.

    EDIT:
    MB Series: P65_P67SE.
    BIOS Version: 1.03.06aRLS1.
    KBC/EC Firmware Revision: 1.03.06.

    Thanks in advance,

    Trey

Those are too many isuses for a new laptop.. I would ask Xotic to replace your system for 2 reasons:

    1. The keyboard is faulty IMO.. You shouldn't be having so many problems from the get go with it
    2. This XFi-MB3 shouldn't be working like this.. Usually this is a sign that the chip is faulty.. My Alienware had similar problems and the motherboard needed to be replaced...

Might be worth getting in touch with @Hutsady@XoticPC about this...

If you're not completely happy with the computer we're happy to set up a return to Sager to get it checked out.

The Space bar and buzzing sound do seem to be hardware related so updating drivers etc typically will not fix that. If you go to our website and click on the "Contact" section you will see an RMA request there. Fill out and submit that and we will get the service set up with Sager for you.

Thx. Sent an email to support to see if they had any other ideas I haven't tried. Since this is a work laptop, not sure if I can afford time-wise another P670SE, maybe being a newer model it has a few quirks to work out? I'm leaning toward returning this, then decide what Clevo/Sager model (maybe a NP8278-S?) to purchase. My NP8150 has served me well. Not to worry, my business will still be w/ XoticPC :) .

I moved from Colorado to Minnesota last November and driving through the state of Nebraska it smelled like cow s**t the whole way. And I mean the WHOLE way! Cow poop.

Anyone got anything to say about this?

You do have a 30 day return period if you do want to go that option.

Just a thought, while it does sound like hardware issues, did you install that SSD yourself. You can always try reinstalling Windows and the drivers just to see if anything changes. Since its new you probably dont have a lot of stuff on there yet that would make it a pain to do. It may be worth trying before sending it in.

I would try a fresh install and drivers in order but I would think your issues are hardware related. I had issues my first install on batman. Redid everything and still had an issue with airplane mode. Reinstalled one more time because incouldmt sort it out. It's been nearly flawless since then. Sucks but that is part of troubleshooting and you need to rule out bad install or drivers before you move forward, especially if you like the laptop and want to try again if it isn't sorted out with fresh installs.

Tried a Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit install, and the keyboard space key issue is still there, the speaker buzzing when powered down is still there. Tried the speakers on 2 other PC's, no issues... Plus, same speakers I've been using with my NP8150 for years. The Sound Blaster driver uninstall issue didn't reappear though. I have not tried to duplicate the screensaver LCD static issue, so don't know if that is still an HDMI issue or not.

    Thanks,

    Trey

Is the keyboard problem better? Also what about the Creative software? I'm really worried about that... That symptom completely freaks me out as it stinks of audio chipset failure...

If I read that right, the speaker sound issue goes away once you uninstall Sound Blaster Driver. If so, then it does work normally when just the Audio Driver is installed?

@Tom - kb issue still there.

@Hutsday - On Win8 after a reboot, I no longer receive a "No audio device supported" message (meaning I don't have to reinstall the Creative driver), but the buzzing is still there when I power down. I'll run a few more tests, different wall outlet in the house, running off battery power, trying Safe Mode and seeing what the results are, etc. But I am running out of time and this will have to be my last day trying to get this figured out.

    Thx everyone for their input/help!

The audio buzzing seems like a driver and/or Windows issue to me. The keyboard issue is likely hardware. There's been one or two instances of spacebar issues in this thread alone. It may clear up in time but if it doesn't, i think Sager would likely just send you a replacement keyboard. It's fairly easy to replace it yourself.

If it is just the keyboard that is the problem, then yes you are correct that Sager will send one for user replacement. Saves a ton of time by doing that.

I know this is a longshot but does anyone know if there's an alternative touchpad driver out there that will allow disabling of the touchpad itself while leaving the buttons active? I am able to do this on all other laptops i use.

Indeed... 1866MHz is the one which is officially supported.. 2133MHz works but it might also not work... It really depends on the ability of the CPU memory controller to run at that speed..

1866mhz is not officially supported by intel ;) 1600mhz is the fastest intel support down from the 4700mq right up to the 4930mx.

I believe it varies, and you'll need to get your unit before you can determine which module you have.

Thanks, waiting for my tax return to order the laptop from xoticpc, also weighting what would do more benefit, 16gb @cl11 or 8gb @cl9, since both cost the same (1x 8gb cl11 $56 ; 2x4gb cl9 $56)

16GB at CL11 because the cl11 would slow down the cl9 chips in the above configuration.

Believe it or not I read through the entire thread (time well spent, no sarcasm). But I still got a couple of questions.

    1. Is the battery pack removable or not? Think I read somewhere in this thread that it wasn't. I plan on plugging this laptop most of the time and would prefer the battery pack be removed during those times.
    2. To those that did CPU/GPU temperature benchmarks, may I know what is average room temperature you guys got the results in? In my country, it tends to get hot, average room temperate is around 33-37 degrees Celcius. Sometimes reaches 40+ during summer. Is why temperate is always a big consideration in my country.

Welcome to NBR and congrats on your first post.

The battery can be removed but not easily. But you do not want to remove it, as having it installed helps with battery backup like a UPS incase you have sudden power fluctuations. It will not overcharge if that is what you are worried about.

Your ambient room temps are still lower then the average idle temps of the CPU/GPU so it wont change those much. Your main concern with temps is max numbers under load and ambient temps rarely effect that. We get the same temps here in Nebraska, granted we're usually not outside gaming in those temps :)
