Is there any harm in OC? Also, has anyone had problems coming out of sleep in Windows 7? Mine had stuck out of sleep a couple times and required a hard power off/on. Btw, I love the fan on this thing even at full speed it isn't annoying.

9mm??? I did not realize that they made that big. I did measure mine before I ordered the adapter though.

All the PA-19/PA-9E power supplies I've seen are 7.4/5.0 barrels.

I can assure you I was as surpised as you are. The PA-19 'family' does not have the same connector in every unit.
I must've tried fitting that plug like a monkey for 5 minutes like taking a banana out of a jar and not understanding why my hand is stuck.

I measured it and then I Googled it and lo an behold.. there ARE 9mm plugs! &$@%#@#$ a freakin useles PA-19 I have now.
Seems the 9mm is for the m1730 while the 7.5mm are NOT for the m1730 (DUH!) and STILL it's a PA-19...

So I can either buy me another adapter or whip out my soldering iron and do it my freakin self!

Hey, I've been using this forum for research for awhile and decided to finally register to pop a few questions:

    1. Does the machine feel like it'll last 3+ years? Any weak spots? Considering I'll need my new machine to hopefully last this long.
    2. How hard is it to remove the bottom panel? Do you know if it voids the warranty? Considering I might want to salvage the SSD (Plextor PX-128M3) from my old (current) laptop and possibly start with 8 gigs of ram and upgrade in the future.
    3. Is the standard Crucial M500 a decent enough budget SSD, or should I really pop the cash to upgrade the M2 SSD to an intel 530?

    Thanks in advance guys!
Hopefully the P670SE can become my futureproof-ish "desktop replacement" in a month or so.

    1. Yes.
    2. Not hard, 14 screws, all easily located.
2b. Yes, it doesn't or else you wouldn't be able to replace or add storage.
    3. Yes it is, but an m.2 would give far better performance.

Yes, I concur with tijgert that these feel that they will last 3+years. I bought mine assuming they will last that long. They are replacing units that are retiring after 4 years of service.
Not so much a weak spot as something to be mindful of--the back panel is very slick. I will be buying some gripping material to add to the bottom, as I bought them for work and they will be repeatedly traveled, set up, and moved.

    Hi there,

I would like you to ask regarding sub woofer of Sager NP8671 / Clevo P170SE.

+ Sub woofer on my NP8671 may not work properly.
NP8671 has a sub woofer built on the bottom of laptop. Although I installed the audio driver including others from Setup CD, it seems sound is not generated from the sub woofer because I do not feel vibration at all even if I keep touching it while music or movie comes out with heavy bass sound.

The driver version is 6.0.1.7363 and I believe this is the latest version.
    version.jpg

In sound property, I can see "stereo", "4 ch surround" and "5.1 ch surround" in the menu to set audio devices type.
    speaker_setup.jpg

Even if I set it to 5.1 surround speaker and perform a test, sound does not come from the sub woofer at the timing of testing it.
    test_speaker.jpg

    * Sorry but my Windows is Japanese language environment.

Could you tell me if there is anything I should test, or am I mistaken anything?

Since this is my first gaming laptop has sub woofer, If this is stupid and naive question, I am sorry.

It would be grateful if you could assist me.

Very good question Yoshi. Not stupid at all. Mine are not working either. I will have access to a good audio engineer at the end of next week. I will report back if I find a solution.

They included a subwoofer with the 17"? Interesting. If you get time can you open the bottom of your laptop and take a photo and post it here? I haven't been able to find any images or have access to one. Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply, AmyM.

It's great news for me. Please let me know on this thread when you can get anything from him :)

    To: HTWingNut,
I believe so, because it is described in product information as below.

Sager NP8671 / Clevo P670SE - Ultimate Clevo, Sager, Gaming Laptops, 4th Generation Intel Core i7 - LPC Digital

Please let me know if you still want me to take a picture of it even after you see the latest post from AmyM. I will try to open the bottom cover and take it.
    * I installed 256GB m2 SSD already, so I can do that again, but I am not good at opening the cover without scratching it. Actually I scratched around the cover when I installed it already :(

Thanks. No need to open it up. The Sager website indicates only stereo speakers, but others showed a woofer and I can't find the 17" user manual anywhere yet, as the download times out at Clevo's website. But that image confirms it. I would just double check the connection to the mainboard for the subwoofer. Granted those tiny things don't do a whole lot, but you should at least hear something.

In the meantime I've gone ahead and sent Sager a note:
Recently purchased 2 NP8671s (twins). On neither does the subwoofer seem to be working per the Realtek HD Audio Manager. Tried many different combinations of settings, including 5.1, but the test does not yield any sound when it gets to the subwoofers. Realtek driver is 6.0.1.7363.

    Let's see what their response is . . .

Mine is showing up in Device Manager as a BisonCam, NB Pro. Not sure about specs. Nothing in user manual or even specific on Bison's website. I'll defer to others who may be webcam pros here . . .

2mp? Considering this means a 1600x1200 resolution this is very reasonable.

Does anyone have problems resuming out of sleep in Windows 7, with this laptop? When I resume it often never comes back just stays at the resume Windows 7 logo or it takes a really long time (minutes).

It seems there are many here who are very knowledgeable about laptop power supplies, and I'm hoping for your help. The power bricks that came with my new Sager NP8671s are enormous (6.5" x 3.25" x 1.5") and quite heavy. I am not a gamer but need a robust machine that can handle dense videos. Are there any lighter weight options or do I need to use these power supplies? I came across this in my search today and was wondering if anyone had heard of this new technology and if it might be a possibility for use with these Sagers:

New technology will shrink laptop power bricks to a quarter of current size - Neowin

Here are the power specs of my machines per Sager:
Embedded 4 cell Polymer battery pack 60Wh
    Full Range AC-in 100~240V, 50~60Hz, 180W AC Adapter, DC output 19.5V, 9.23A or 19V, 9.5A

    Most grateful for any advice.

I like the solid look of this notebook and how slim it is even having a 980m gpu with i7 alongside. Temprature values and the noise levels are satisfiying me alot in this slim chasis. On the other hand, im disappointed that there is no capacitive buttons but the most annoying problem for me is i still couldnt manage to play subwoofer too..Additionla info: one hit to the chasis with my usb 3.0 cable accidentaly, now there is a white mark on the chasis.

As long as the plug fits you can use lighter PSU's. You'll find that many 19v PSU's use in fact the same plug, check your local electronics dump for an old laptop PSU. I myself use a 60W PSU on the couch knowing I won't game or load the CPU with work. I got mine for free checking the electronics garbage at my local hardware store where people throw away the handiest things, like perfectly good 19v PSU's :)

The subwoofer is very weak. You'll notice the diff when it really is off, but to know it's on you need to touch it with your finger with the bottom plate off, it does vibrate.

Thank you for your response tijgert. That is great news. Even some of the 120W PSUs are about half this size. So it sounds like as long as the voltage and plug are correct I should be good. Hopefully I can get something from Clevo.

Also don't forget that a 19.5v PSU will work just as well as a 19v PSU, it even says so on the bottom of the laptop and on the Clevo site so don't worry about it.

Okay, I'll try to do that later, but It seems we should use headphone to enjoy 5.1 surround rather than expect bass sound from the subwoofer

The keyboard is a chiclet style, which is the older style per se. They used to come with chiclet, then changed over to island style (still on other models), now back to chiclet.

Island is a chiclet. It's more like standard vs chiclet/island. Chiclet/island keyboards are because keys are separated on their own "island". Standard keys there is no gap.

I used to think island keyboards were when the keyboard was removable as a unit, like most Clevo's are. And not integrated below the chassis.

Didn't notice this post, thanks for the follow up!

Unfortunately the CMO1720 was the reason I returned the 9170 I had. The anti glare coating on it is just way too thick and distracting.

Sounds like they fixed the keyboard at least. While the keyboard wasn't the worst, it wasn't very nice to type on.

Too bad there are such awesome screen options on the 15" but not the 17". I want to replace my M14x because it just seems too small for me now. I don't think the 15" will be a big enough step up.

Don't give up. Depending on where you are located there are some smaller (than Sager) Clevo dealers that do a higher level of customization.

Okay that's what I figured on the chiclet keyboards.
Still wish there was a 4k screen for 17" but doesn't look like that's happening.

I spoke with a couple of audio engineers this week re: the subwoofer. They were politely trying to keep a straight face as I described our difficulty detecting the subwoofer (the subwoofers these guys normally deal with are for large concert venues and take two stagehands to carry). Anyway, they said that the feed to the subwoofer was not on a separate channel, which is why the Realtek software doesn't recognize it. Sager also emailed me back yesterday saying that the subwoofer is attached to the stereo output and does not have a separate volume control. I am typically tied into a soundboard, so notebook speakers are not important for me, but this might be of interest to others.

The funny thing is that Windows actually shows a subwoofer in the audio devices volume controls. So something somewhere is aware of its presence.
