Quick question, is there a replacement 120hz screen for the np 8672 by any chance?

It depends on the connector type you have. What panel do you have now? One was never officially fitted.

Go into device manager, under monitors should be a generic PNP device. Post the hardware ID listed once you right click, go to properties, details, drop down menu to hardware IDs.

    Hi Joe...
Sorry for the really late response... Hadn't checked this page in months.

Idle temps hover around 42degC for CPU. (Over 6 months into my LM repaste... Probably need to clean out the accumulated dust from heat sinks about note). Haven't been using my system much lately....max load temps initially were around 80degC)

Interesting, I just repasted with IC Diamond yesterday because i found myself at 91-92 after 30 mins of gaming. The IC repaste brought it down to 80 after an 3-4 hours of gaming. You're getting 80 with LM?

Under heavy game loads i top out at about 75 degC even after a 4-5hr long session (Witcher 3, 1080p max settings).
80degC was with prime95 set at max heat generation or some similar stress test.

Question regarding SSD drives. This laptop has an extra M.2 SSD slot. Will this support NVMe (e.g Samsung 960 series)? It currenly has a Samsung 850 in it.

Officially not while running the M.2 SATA though you can while using the 2.5" ports.

So, a follow up question here.

I currently have a Samsung EVO 850 installed (C:/ drive) and working fine.

i just bought another Samsung EVO 850 (500gb) to install in the free M.2 slot (sits at a right angle to the other slot). I've installed the new SSD but it isn't recognized in the bios or in windows.

Any thoughts on this? The slot can be set to work as a storage drive or a wireless card in the bios, and its set to storage. Do I need to to do anything else to get the bios to detect the drive? I tried re-seating it once as well and it doesn't seem to work. Not sure what's going on.

    hey all...

Sadly my laptop screen (p670SG) got cracked and I need to manually replace it. While I can do that technically with ease, I am having difficulty finding the same panel.

It occured to me that perhaps I can use a currently available (and affordable) different panel that would fit the same eDP connector?

Anyone know of a replacement panel that is available and affordable that would be a good 'upgrade'? Perhaps something with 4k or 120hz who knows....

    THANKS GANG!

If you find a good panel type just be aware most places offer compatible replacements for that listing so will send whatever they have in stock that will work.

Hi all. Looking for some help adding a SSD to my NP 8671.

I still have the original 1TB 7200 RPM HD installed and am looking to order either a 120gb or 250gb SSD today from Amazon to install some games onto. However, I'm not that familiar with how SSDs are spec'd and what type of interface is available in the laptop (SATA, PCIe, 7mm, 9mm, etc).

Can someone help me nail down what type of SSD will fit in the existing slot in my laptop?

    Thanks!

    Thanks. The owners manual states: Two changeable 2.5” HDD/SSD, 1st 7mm(H), 2nd 7mm(H) / 9.5mm(H), SATA interface (RAID 0/1 support)

    1. Is the 1TB HD that ships with the laptop 7mm or 9mm?
    2. If someone can recommend a good compatible SSD I would appreciate it. As I said, I am not very familiar and want to make sure I get something that's compatible.

    1. Depends when you ordered but likely 9mm.
    2. The 860 Evo m.2 series are good so you don't need to worry about the 2.5" bay.

So I've been out of the loop with laptops for a while now, but I saw a local posting for an SG for $600CAD which is about $455.78USD. Is that worth it for i7 haswell + 980m?

For between 1050ti and 1060 performance that seems reasonable if as Emily says it looks in decent condition.

hey all sorry if this was asked, but lately it seems my GPU fan is running at max 24/7. It is soo loud, my wife asked me "what is that annoying noise".

I check the icon that shows GPU not in use by any app, task manager says it is not being used even 1%, yet its super loud. I took apart the computer several months ago to blow out dust, but it seems this thing just doesnt want to stop working at max speed!

Any ideas? Is this a known issue? Do I need to take it apart and reapply thermal paste?

That model has dual GPU fans, if one is slow or not working right, the computer could be boosting the fans to try and handle the heat but since only one is working right it's working harder and longer to keep the system cool.

update on the fans: I took frame apart and blew out the fans now it runs silently most of the time. Was total blockage of airflow. Even though i just blew it out again less than a year ago!

hey all me again :) It seems the CPU has been throttling more and more even after cleaning out the fan. Also the CPU fan sometimes makes a noise..

I tried applying some basic thermal paste here but still its running idle at like 60 and even 50% shoots it up to 90c. Playing a game like Dota will have like 20 FPS suddenly all the time basically computer is unusable right now.

Any suggestions?? Can I buy replacement cpu fan/cooler for this laptop? Do I need high quality thermal paste?

Yes you can replace the cooler but a tube of high quality paste like ic diamond or thermal grizzly is highly recommended to test with first.

hey guys a little update on maybe the last remaining p670SG on the planet? lol

I notice some difference but it decreased after a couple of weeks using noctua cooler thermal paste. It is supposed to be a very good one, i think maybe i put too much but i tried to put only a small line and let it squish itself into the socket. Temps still hit throttle little of 100c. Using even quality paste. Maybe i should try doing the paste again?

An additional oddity. I have Control Center and tried fan settings automatic, custom, and maximum. It seems the temps stay way down consistently with maximum, but i tried with a game and noticed it still have a few spikes to cause throttle... With that in mind I find the automatic setting and the custom settings to be not very good at all causing lots of heating and not working right.

tl;dr is there perhaps an updated control center of way to control the fan better so it keeps temps lower and stable? BTW my CC version is 5.0000.0.7

Take pictures of the contact pattern left by the paste when removing it and we can tell you if something is up with the application.

I'll get around to it and post a pic.
There is occasional noise coming from the CPU fan, telling me that its on its last legs... Perhaps the fan itself is barely spinning at a fraction of its regular speed??

I tried to search for replacement CPU fan for P670SG or variations of it, but only came up with this joke of an offer: https://www.laptopinventory.com/ModelDetail.php/Sager/NP Series/P670SG/Fan/52255 $65 for a fan!??!?!

Anyone know any other options? I am located in Israel ATM so I'm used to international shipping, but where could I find such parts at reasonable prices?

edit: I found this they say its for P650... does P650 and P670 use the same CPU fan? I am assuming yes since they are the same laptop just one with bigger lcd screen/frame... correct?

Feel the airflow and if it seems normal from the vent. Double check your fan is the removable one. You will also get the exact part number from it.

    Hey everyone,

Haven't posted in a while. Need some answers -

    1. Has anyone been running into a 'Kernel-Power' issue? From what I could find, its most likely a BIOS issue. Looking to flash with stock or updated (official) BIOS.
    2. My thermals are fine, checked everything.
    3. Does anyone have a link to the stock BIOS (Sager P67SG). I had flashed with premamod, and I can't find the original file anymore.

    UPDATE:

LM (Conductonaut) seems to be going strong.

Aida64 stress test temps still max out at 81-82 degC.
Haven't opened my LM repaste ever, after the initial LM paste. Initial LM job was done in Nov 2017. Still rocking same temps as the initial job. The only change is, idle temps are now around 50 degC. But max load temps, with max fan are still the same (maybe a 2-3 degC change? not really sure on this, since I don't have those old screenshots)
