Optimus should be controlled via the nvidia control panel rather than windows power options.

Hey guys have you downloaded the latest nvidia driver http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/geforce-353-06-whql-driver-released , that enables DSR on notebooks. After downloading it i cannot see the option on the control panel. I wen't to the forums and it seems some other people also have the same problem .... but get this - from what i can see, the people complaining about the issue all have CLEVO laptops! So i came here, since i want to see if other with the same laptop as me are having the same problem. Are you guys having the same issue ? Was so exited on trying DSR with the 980m.

I think you need Prema BIOS for having any chance to edit the current limit..

DSR doesn't work on Optimus laptops... The laptop needs to have the display directly wired to NVIDIA GPU which isn't the case here due to Optimus (wired to iGPU)...

Yes a bit like gsync, it requires control of the reported resolution and scaling of the rendered image.

Has someone tried overlocking with the 980m ? If so what results did you get , how did you do it, What were the temps like after OC - did you use the default 180 w adapter. I know its a lot of information , but it would be much appreciated. On a side note what does the warranty say about overclocking ?

Warranty through who? Normally it would void it yes if you burn something out while overclocking it's on you.

You also need an unlocked vbios with higher power limits to properly go above more than a 50hz core clock increase.

    Hi guys !!
I am planning on buying a XMG P705 (Clevo P670SE) laptop from XMG Europe. Searching through the web and massively on this thread i have clarified some doubts but i am still confused with one option.

    The Screen.

On the panel configuration of XMG i have two options:

    1,- 17.3″ (43.9 cm) Full HD (1920 × 1080) Non-Glare ---> Model: CHIMEI N173HGE-L11
    2.- For 80€ more --> 17.3″ (43.9 cm) Full HD (1920 × 1080) Non-Glare IPS. Model: LG LP173WF4-SPD1
    (Both panels @ 60 Hz)

I never owned an IPS panel so i dont know exactly what i will find so i searched a lot of info. People seem to love IPS panels, but i am not totally sold on it.

I will use the laptop 85% games (Sims 4, Skyrim, Dota 2, Counter Strike and some modern FPS) and 15% Web/Youtube/Movies. I will use it almost all the time on front of it, i mean, i wont use it too much time on bed or over my legs.
What i saw on reviews of laptop mounting this kind of screen:

IPS panel has better viewing angles although this TN is very stable.
I saw that IPS panels have better image quality compared to TN:
    - Colorchecker DeltaE2000 is better on IPS panel (7.21 vs 10.3)
    - Greyscale DeltaE2000 is better on IPS panel (4.96 vs 10.24)
TN panels have better response latency (the Chi Mei from option 1 has 2/6ms of response and the IPS from LG has 25 ms).
The TN panel has better black levels (0.31 vs 0.41).
The TN panel has better contrast (1035 vs 820)

But this results may be different on somes reviews (i dont know if i can post links from other webs of laptop reviews). In fact, on other reviews i saw the IPS panel having better contrast and black levels o0?.

Finishing, my conclusion is you spend 80 € more to have better quality of colors and view angles. But other problems as bleeding light, high latencies, worst black levels are there. I understand the use of IPS panel for people who works with Photoshop or Graphic Desing ... but to people like me is better the TN.

But i want to share this though with you ...and see your experience with this two panels. I dont want to spend 80 euro to be unsatisfied latter.

    Thank you.

Well, 3 months and still no laptop from XoticPC. The original laptop ordered on 3/8/15 was a complete lemon, probably a bad motherboard (HDMI static, audio port didn't work, keyboard keys unresponsive)... I understand hardware can have issues, I can live with that.

Sent it back to Sager on a replacement RMA within 30 days (on 4/7/15, and YES I have delivery confirmation), placed a RMA replacement order with XoticPC on 4/9/15. Over the past 8+ weeks, I've called 4 times and emailed 3 times to check on the status of the order and the same answer comes back, it's in accounting being processed, someone will find out where your laptop is and call you/email you back... not once have I received an email/call back. So I don't know if this is an issue with Sager or XoticPC, I've been provided zero info.

I finally called in and told the support rep to cancel my XoticPC order. That was two weeks ago, and I still haven't been given my money back on my credit card. I called a week ago, same answer, we'll get back to you. Still no credit.

This really leaves me no choice but to call my credit card company to dispute the charge. I don't mind waiting, but not being provided with up-to-date or at least what-step-in-the-process information is just bad customer service. This might of been my last purchase from XoticPC.

    Regards,

    Trey

Edit/Update - 6/17/15 3:45p EST - A big thank you to Hutsady@XoticPC (you're an asset to your company, I hope your superiors realize that)... he pushed through my credit today on his end and should be posting to my cc soon. Due to the swift and courteous assistance I've received in this matter, XoticPC once again has my business.

    Hi guys!
Read whole thread, but could not find clarification of noise levels. Could not find any proper reviews of P670SE as such... In notebookcheck review of
Schenker XMG P705 (Clevo P670SA) reviewer complained than "the cooling is often unnecessary loud even with light workloads". Also, I saw someone complaining that metabox have "jumpy" fan controls, increasing speed rapidly, in something like a burst.
Did anyone of you experienced any of that? Is it better for P670SE? Under light load (movies, browsing) is noise annoying/noticeable much? Is there any actual Db numbers under a load?
Maybe it's pretty much the same as P670SA?

Another question, is there any way to get international warranty for Clevo, or at least proper service overseas? I am planning to buy Clevo in Australia and go to Europe for 5 months. Will I find any service centre if anything goes wrong?

    Thanks!

Something average for ips. Without knowing grey to grey values the spec number is usually useless.

How does the Clevo P670SE compare to the Clevo P650SE? Does it have better cooling? I found out that the Clevo P670SE can fit 1 7mm and 1 9.5mm, which is nice and saves me from all the hassle of requesting to remove the stock HDD then buy a 7mm 1TB HDD. Maybe some extra money ~$30 but if it has better cooling so that might be worth it.

Very similar to each other, the biggest difference is 17.3" screen vs 15.6". 17.3" do tend to have a little bit better cooling because of the larger chassis, but nothing drastic as the designs are very close to each other.

Just got my Sager NP6871-S from Xotic PC an hour ago. Screen wouldn't turn on at all. Already have to RMA. Sucks because I thought they were tested by Xotic PC after custom work was done on them before being sent out :/

That's a bummer man. If I were in your boots, I'd tell them to send me a brand new system, re-customizing again. Kinda ridiculous to be RMAing a notebook you just received (ain't a cheap device either). Sometimes you wonder where the burn-in/testing phase for some of these notebooks have gone with only a few companies seeming to unequivocally go that extra mile (ex. Mythlogic). Nowadays, Sager seems a little more hit-or-miss in that department and Xoticpc should have checked it if they received it for any custom work. Sorry to hear that though.

Sometimes the temperature swings and jostling of shipping expose something you just can't get to in standard testing.

So Ive been enjoying my Sager 8672 from XoticPC for about a week now.
Speakers suck, soundblaster makes them even worse (Or I just couldnt figure out how to squeeze some life out of them)
Other than that the machine works perfectly. Ive been playing GTA5 on all max for about a week now with temps hovering around 80 for CPU and 70 for GPU. Although it would seem they are quite high, I think thats normal for this laptop. I will repaste when the temps will go over 85 and see if that will make any change.

Great to hear its been working out. There's not much you can do for the internal speakers, externals or headphones are your best bet. The temps you're seeing seem on par for this model, and most notebooks with the same size and hardware.

I'm sorry to hear that. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you need any help with this, if you haven't reached out to our service team already. We do test the systems before we send them and wouldn't ship one with a blank screen, but as Meaker said, there are things that can come up sometimes. But let me know if I can help with anything.

I dont want to go off topic in this thread so I will just ask
If anyone is willing to help me with my router problem? Customer support besides "did you try turning it on and off again" didnt do a thing
I will give all the details in PM.
    Thank you

    So my problem is this:
I have TPlink router TL-WR841N with very slow wifi speed, and upload speed being 3x faster than download.
My IPS provides 100mb/100mb. With direct connection over the cable, I get those numbers
But when I connect to the Wifi, speed drops dramatically
Heres a speedtest via wifi http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4478951660
    And via cable http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4480687666

I tried: updating the firmware, various channels, channel width, security settings. I tried factory reset. The distance from the router doesnt have any effect on the speed.
    Nothing seems to help
The problem persists on various laptops, I tried 3 different machines and I get the same results.
The WIFI speed shown feels almost like a bottleneck because I reach those numbers all the time and thats it.

    I will appreciate any help

Can you try moving the router to a different part of the building? It might be getting interference from something else possibly.

Hi all, what's your experience with the macro keys software? Does it allow you to record and bind a macro to any key/key combination on the keyboard? Does it also record mouse pointer/clicks etc?

Additionally, does this model have heat issues that could lower the lifespan of the laptop? Does it get too loud when under load?

I haven't used the macro key software (called FlexiKey) so can't comment on that.

Cooling is great on the GPU. Very cool temps comparatively to other similarly-sized notebooks. CPU cooling is just adequate. It's nothing special but will do the job just fine if you have no intention of overclocking. I'm basing this on my experience with my P651SG. The chassis of this 17.3" version is slightly roomier so will definitely be at least as good, if not slightly better.

    Hello again

Writing regarding my router problem again
So amazingly enough it would seem that it is not routers problem but my Sager's?
I needed to download something on my old Asus G73jh and I was blown away by the speed. Speedtest showed almost the same results as I would get with ethernet cable, while Sager, which was right next to Asus, showed the usual poor results. So it would seem that somethting is wrong with the laptop. Any suggestions? What settings could have such a significant effect on the Wifi speed?

Firewall and Antivirus may be the reason. Try disabling them just for testing purposes.

    No difference

Maybe theres a video or a guide on how to do that?
Would WIFI work at all if antennae werent connected?

Reinstalled drivers hoping for a positive settings reset result but nothing changed.

Do you're router have a "Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence" setting or a similar option? Back when I was using GL551 laptop, the Intel 7260 N would always drop connections, but provided the internet speeds that my ISP provide me. I switched it out for a Atheros AR5B225 that I had laying around, since I hated the constant connection drops. I was getting similar results you are getting and fixed it by disabling 20/40 MHz Coexistence or if already disabled, try enabling 20/40 MHz Coexistence. This may help with your wifi speeds.

Yes if not connected properly the wifi can work but wont be very good.

The wifi card is under the main bottom hatch and directly exposed once that is taken off.

When you reinstalled the drivers did you use the ones that came with it or check for any updated ones directly from the manufacturer.

Ill check if everything is connected. Thank you

My machine came clean so at first I installed everything from Sager website.
Now I tried to install newest drivers from Intel website. Intel WIFI manager has no effect.

Which GPU driver is everyone running? I ask because back when i played ARMA3 mods i was using the latest nvidia mobile driver and my FPS were a bit low with lag spikes quite often. Then i tried the OEM
9.18.13.4456 09-Feb-15 from Sager and my FPS went up on average about 7-10FPS and the lag spikes were dramatically reduced. Now i'm playing Ark: Surival Evolved and with the latest driver my FPS are around 28-34 on average with a decent amount of lag spikes. The weird thing is that the devs have pushed updates that included GPU optimizations no less than 4 times now and each time i see no difference. While friends with a 960 & 970 desktop card have seen 10-15+FPS average increase over the last few weeks.

I did just try the driver from Sager and while my max FPS was doubled and the average FPS went to around 34-38, the lag spikes were more frequent and lasted for a much longer time. Should i just keep using the latest drivers and hope for the best? I assume this is a downfall of a mobile GPU in general - lack of optimizations/bugfixes compared to desktop GPU's.

Should i try a modified desktop driver? Isn't the desktop driver the exact same as the mobile one with different INF files?

I'm beginning to regret not building a desktop rig.

If you installed all of them that could be causing it, you should only install the one for the wifi card that is in the computer, they will have all of the wifi options posted. Do you know which Wifi card you have?

    @elwood

Don't despair yet, or ever really . Try a clean installation. So uninstall everything, including Geforce Experience, as instructed HERE (ignore all the driver sweeper/safe mode stuff). Then install Geforce experience from HERE and let it install the latest driver + PhysX software for you. Maybe that'll help.

The mobile drivers use the same main code as the desktop ones (they are the same chips) just with different power management.

So I looked at the insides. It seems that everything is attached and in order. I will add a photo for you to see just in case I missed something.
I also tried to add another HDD from my Asus but I realized that Sager will only take 7mm HDD while Asus's was 7.5 :((

I installed only one latest driver. Maybe I should try older versions...

i'm not much of a gamer, i usually run multiple virtual machines. so to find a fine piece of hardware like this machine was exactly what i needed to replace my old maxed out (i7-2670QM from the original i5-2410M, 8GB from 4GB of DDR3, and a Samsung 840 pro from the 750GB 5400rpm HDD) Samsung NP3. i ordered my NP8671-S from lpc-digital on July 3rd, and they failed to mention that they are on back order until July 21st... *facepalm* waiting sucks!

just a quick question. will the NP8671 boot from the m2 pcie slot?
and to further add to the question, if it will will it also boot the Samsung SM951 NVMe or am i jumping the gun as it isn't out yet?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jak

    1. Yes
    2. As of today, IIRC, the m.2 SATA/PCIe port on the 8671 can only maximize PCIe gen 2.0 (x4). I think the NVMe uses PCIe gen 3.0. If there is refresh of this model at the end of 2015/beginning of 2016, only that version will likely have the port to support max NVMe speeds. The classic "something better over the horizon" mantra, but never fear.
