Hello everyone, been following this thread for a while now. I ordered mine (SAGER NP8358F2-S) from xotic a few weeks ago and Im expecting it to arrive next week (can't wait! - I live in Colombia - South America).

I have a question for the owners that have been playing with their laptops for a while now... is the lack of gsync on the 15 inch version very noticeable? do you have any regrets on not buying the 17 inch version? Any annoying tearing / stuttering? I suppose you can connect to a gsync enabled screen if need be right?

    Thanks in advance

Hi Chris. This is the thread for the 17" version that also has gsync. I have no issues with game running smooth. I doubt you will notice a problem with yours without though. The 2070 super has some power especially at 1080p. I'll be honest my laptop beats my main computer for smoothness in games. I do run a 1080 at 1440p on the main machine though.

A high refresh rate and strong GPU certainly helps counteract the G-Sync.

No because it's not an LG screen, it's not TN though.

Thanks very much for help. Is the viewing angle good as ips? And is the viewing angle 178 degree

What are the recommended cooling strategies for this model?
Any accessories recommended in this matter?

Mine is coming, still a month of wait. Counting day by day.

    Thanks for this informative post.

Repaste and undervolting is the way to go. If u plan on using it on your laptop you'll need a cooler pad to avoid burns

The one I bought came with extra pasting service, then I won't be pasting. Undervolting maybe, I am not an expert but willing to learn and test.
Which cooler do you recommend for this laptop?

    Thank you Lzealot!!

I bought a habit hv-f2056 17" great airflow and it keeps your lap cool it basically made no difference in laptop temps. Just gives u a way to use it on the couch if u want to.

Undervolting is almost a necessity to help tame the temps. I'm running -100mv. I used Intel xtu to do it. It's fairly simple to do.

Propping up the back always helps and you want a stand that wont block the airflow. Bottle caps under each rear foot usually works well in a pinch :p

You want lower air resistance for the fans.

The only difference in temps that helped was lowering the ambient temp going in. This model doesn't have an airflow problem. I've used it on a wood table, cooler, and bottle caps and saw only a 1C difference in temps. Airflow design is spot on. Fans are a bit loud but they move some cfm. Only thing that would help more is to increase the surface area available to the heat sink and they would need a wider or taller chassis to fit it

Clevo and Sager did a nice job. CPU temps will be in the 80s C under load. GPU hangs in the 70s C. The the current limiters and thermal limiters are set just under peak temps.

The keyboard stays relatively cool on the WSAD side for you hand while gaming. I do use a microfiber cloth for a palm rest but I have naturally sweaty hands and this is a finger printer magnet. The upper part of the keyboard TY56 keys get toasty. You won't leave your fingers there for long!

Hi! I bought this laptop from Sager. Would GPU overclocking (or undervolting, get those mixed up) work for me too? What steps can I take to get started with it? I've seen lots of videos on youtube and am not sure which one to follow (not sure what people mean in the thread when they stuff like they undervolted core and cache).

Undervolting using the clock curve could see nice gains while keeping power under control.

First things first is to decide what program to use.
    Intel xtu
    Throttle stop
    Etc
Once u decide then youtube on how to use it to undervolt your chip. Undervolting really can't hurt you. If you go too far the machine will shut off and reboot back to normal. Obviously don't be running backups or anything while doing it. Once you decide on a program post up and usually someone will help u if u run I to trouble.

I would avoid the latest Nvidia drivers from may. It's been real bad and has caused overheating issues on laptop gpus. I saw a 50% decrease in fps in games.

I just couldn't handle the high pitch noise fans made so after about a week i sent it in for a refund. I was told friday I'd have refund monday and i did not. I called in monday afternoon they told me they had to check my laptop and could take couple of days. They received it last Thursday morning and here i am -$2,090 with no laptop. I'm guessing they have a large volume of returns.

They might be understaffed due to the virus too. Let us know what you get instead. I'm curious to know. I think most have high noise fans. It seems to be a big complaint with most of the model refreshes.

Yea I can understand what you are saying about the fans. I tend to have faith in these companies like exotic hid and gentech.

they don’t want to give people crap or issues they want to be the best and sell more and with online reviews and forums like these they all know that a google search will show a lot of problems but that doesn’t mean that it can’t take a little time to get a refund. I mean even Nike takes 5-10 buisness days to refund shoes a laptop takes. A little more I’m guessing

True but also thousands of employees too these are small companies that have few employees and with everyone working from home I’ve spoke to several of the reps from exotic, hid, and they all are just back logged things sell out before they even get them.

alll I’m saying is give them a chance I’m sure they will take care of you I understand the frustration though I’d be pissed too. I’m sure they will refund you. These are good companies every once in a while there may be a bad review but if u check overall ratings for them on reseller rating and on these boards they are solid companies with few complaints.

Did they say why they didn’t refund you the whole amount? If they are clearly at fault you can always call your credit card they will force them normally if they don’t do it willingly

I figured I'd share a screenshot of the fire strike runs between my home machine and this laptop. The first two were my home machine going from a 1080gtx to a 2080 super.
All the generic GPU w a 10875 CPU is this laptop under various setting tweaks.

Well, mine is officially dead. Should have known given it bsoded on first startup multiple times. Two clevo laptops in a row from HID that were bad. Given this things high temps, loud fans and my dead one I don't recommend this thing to anyone.

Sager and HID are not the same companies. They buy their laptops from the same manufacturer and the customize them. Even though our specs were the same Comprodigy and I have different bios's in our machines. HID usually pushes the envelope a bit more for performance, but you lose a bit on stability. Power users tend to like them so they can tweak.

I'm just managed to undervolt the 2070 Super on mine. I"m pretty happy with the results.

On Turbo Mode with Max Fans

    I managed a Firestrike score of 19344
GPU Temps 68C Max Power Usage of 94W.

It was a pain to do, but I have to say it opens up some overclocking headroom. I'm tempted to see what I can get out of it now.

Final Tune .png Tonight I spent a lot of time learning how to use MSI Afterburner and tuning a GPU.
Originally, I wanted to undervolt the GPU to lower temps, but the only way you can do it is by giving up having a variable boost clock. I finally figured out how to make a custom boost voltage/clock curve and tuned my card.

Now I get the full 115W power with a much higher gpu boost clock and much lower temps.
Here's my final run in 3dMark.

Keep in mind this was done in Performance mode with a -100 millivolt on CPU and Max Fans
Take a look at the final CPU and GPU temps on the 3rd graph on the right.

I bought mine direct from Sager. I bought it with the kryonaut paste upgrade and I did repaste just to see if there would be a gain (there wasn't).

Sagers bios is locked for overclocking except for the memory profile. HIDs was unlocked. I've undervolted and tune the GPU now by software.

I've had 6 Sagers so far. They're a little rough around the edges but can be tuned nicely. You can't beat the prices.

I bought one from xotic pc a while back and it ran pretty well still going to this day. How do you buy direct from sager and do they offer extended warranty and us support in case of an issue that requires you send it out? I see you were able to overclock gpu with afterburner can cut under volt the cpu or is cpu basically off limits in this version.
