Agreed. It will be cool to see some "official" bios downloads for specific models from our resellers instead of risking the integrity of the hardware because of these "general" bios o_O

I hope my machine comes with the most stable/recent bios tho ^^

Mine has Bios: 1.01.03 ,EC: 1.00.05 and Vbios:70.24.26.00.01.
I got it just 2 weeks ago from Malibal. so I guess the above may be considered the current "tried and tested" bios versions.

I also have the fn+1 interval hickups as some folks here do. however I don't find this an issue at all. In fact the fn+1 max speed is doing very good job at keeping the GPU temps well below 80c during gaming and even intensive Cuda rendering.

In normal mode - when turning off the fn+1 speed,- the fan runs smooth and kicks at highest speed when temp is around 80-85c.

The fn+5 for sound boost is noticeable and working well.
The 9-in-1 card reader is working well.
I didn't check the Wake-up after suspend and USB power things because i really don't use them.

A query I pose in sheepish prose:

When I run msinfo.exe, my BIOS version states

    BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc 4.6.4 13/05/2011

This in no way looks like the BIOS versions I'm seeing on the clevo bios thread - is there another way to find my version to see if it needs updates?

Next time you start up, hit the F2 key during the splash screen. Among the data displayed will be both the BIOS rev and the KBC/EC rev. The numbers you record there will be the ones you are looking for.

BTW Animatrix, love the poetics !!

So, I checked mine, delivered back in June:

    BIOS 1.01.07 aNS1
    KBC/EC 1.00.05 SA1

This is indeed interesting as it would appear that my BIOS has a higher number, yet was delivered earlier.

One of my favorite movie quotes, from Aliens: "Don't nobody touch nuthin".

I await "official" guidance before I do anything, er, touch nuthin.....

The only keys not listed in the user manual are:

    FN + 1 = max fans
    FN + 5 = speakers/sub

The rest are pretty standard :)

What would be nice would be a set of unified files that work with Sager & Clevo, less chance of the Dreaded Brick Syndrome. Gives me shivers & stuff.

Now, will there be a BIOS recovery mode coming soon?

As Tim the Toolman would say, "AHwooaAAH??"

Someone kindly enlighten me as to what a 'usb charge' is? (I have one port on this for sure that I get power to when the beastie is off, as my coloured mouse kaleidescopes all night long.

That's typically what's referred to with "USB charge". It just means an always on USB port, even when the system power is off.

I am not even going to worry about it. My laptop idles around 100F and the fan barely comes on now and then. It is so quiet. The newest driver for the sound did amazing things for me. It is much louder now. I had it in the garage watching a movie while cleaning and this beast is amazing. I don't want ANYTHING to change for now. It does everything for me that I want and could not imagine changing anything for now.

    yessir, driver version is:

    11 Feb 11
    6.0.1.6307

I believe it made the laptop much louder. I had to change my settings to make the new driver work.

I got the sound driver for the realtek sound system from SAGER. I will NOT reflash the BIOS at anytime in the future unless it was a. From sager and b. It was as safe as rooting a nook color to honeycomb...

I keep the system plugged in all the time and I wonder whether I should remove or keep the battery in my laptop.
In the manual they recommend keeping it in. however, I have read few articles stating otherwise.
Any advise? I just want to keep a healthy battery for those days I need it most.

Charz since you are still up this late.....

A Sony laptop I had (& returned for credit, but that is another story) had a neat battery app that allowed one to set the maximum level of charge that would be delivered. IMS, they recommended an 80% charge for times when the lifetime that yielded, would suit your needs. Occasionally a 100% charge and maximum discharge was to be done. They had graphs that showed a longer and more stable lifetime. I'm just saying.

Love to have an app like that for my Satori !!

In the meantime, I take the Clevo battery to 8% from time to time and keep it charging most of the time.

Yea, the app you mentioned is quite interesting for sure. I really wanna know if keeping a battery at 70-75% charge in a cold place is better than leaving it continuously charging in a plugged in laptop.

IMHO, if your are going to 24/7 using via the psu adapter, just take out the battery. though the lest palm area might feel kinda weird since there are no support when the battery are taken out.

to fix that issue, i just use external keyboard.

Does anyone know if there is a way to make Fn+5 "stick" on permanently? I sometimes forget to press it right away, and wish that it would automatically be enabled on logon. What about a scripted solution added to the logon script, run from the Startup folder as a batch file or run as a Scheduled Task? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is anybody using the built-in "Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver" with Windows Media Center in Windows 7 64-bit? Will any Windows 7 compatible MCE IR remote work, or do I need to look for something specific? What brand/model of remote are you using that is fully functional? Thanks!

If you're referring to the IR port on the front of the laptop, that is a "manufacturer select" kind of option that is normally disabled by Sager when they order these machines. :( However, if you have a type of USB stick with IR functionality you should be able to do it :)

I was indeed referring to that port, but it would appear that it is not disabled - since these two device drivers are installed and enabled under Human Interface Devices:

    . ITECIR Infrared Receiver (EC)
    . Microsoft eHome Infrared Transceiver

And this device driver is installed and enabled under Keyboards:

. Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys

Or did you mean that there's no physical internal connector from the motherboard to the IR port on the front of the case? If that is what you meant, can a connector be installed?

    Thanks!

In the NVIDIA Control Panel, Under Performance - Device Settings - Clock Speeds. Choose Custom and move the slider(s) as desired.
