Well that's interesting. I stand corrected. I thought Sager disabled that IR port...I will check with my guy from Sager and find out for you :)

    So here is a benchmark.

I used NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.5.5 for both of these runs.

    #1:
Used Power Conservation Modes icon included from Sager (or XoticPC) and put the mode to maximum performance and the CPU ran at 2.3GHZ. Then as you can see in image 1 that I put it to maximum performance and voltage for the GPU using NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.5.5. I then ran Unigen in a 800x600 window. 1.txt is the results of run #1 from Unigen.

    #2:
Used Power Conservation Modes icon included from Sager (or XoticPC) and put the mode to energy star and the CPU ran at 782MHZ. Then as you can see in image 2 that I put to minimum performance and voltage for the GPU using NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.5.5. I then ran Unigen in a 800x600 window. 2.txt is the results of run #2 from Unigen.

I'm with J.P. on this one, as far as I'm aware, that hardware is not actually installed on P170HM's by the manufacturer, though it is an option. If you can actually get it to work, please let us know!

I believe the European Sagers have the option of a TV tuner, that's why we have that little TV antenna thingy on the left side.

On BIOS's BEFORE 1.01.03 is works just fine. On bios's after that they changed the mPCIE timings so that the internal TV tuners no longer function properly. So yes they used to work :p

What is the battery life like for p170hm systems?

Basic web surfing/word processing, etc? Gaming? Watching a movie(streaming or dvd)

Does it vary from one graphics card(gtx 560 vs 6990)

Battery life will be roughly 2-2.5 hours. The 560m will lengthen battery life a little bit due to being a 75w graphics card, compare to 100w for the rest. It probably won't be significant though.

I've got 2hrs and 20 min with watching encoded movies and set to performance. I was amazed. My G73 gets about 1hr and 50 min.

And on a note: So sad about Steve Jobs

would software overclocking and altering the gpu voltage using e.g. Nv-inspector (not via flashing vbios) void the warranty?

If you fry the machine in the process, your warranty will not be valid. The act of using it doesn't void the warranty, it's just when you damage the machine, so if you are going to do it be sure that you have some good profiles to work with because it doesn't take much to cause some serious damage.

Overclocking to a degree, keeping the temps in check, may not affect the warranty. Of course flashing the video bios on the card will do so in most cases.

There is no multiplier control in the BIOS, so you cannot over clock the XM processors in the Sager NP8170.

it is a great jump from my ole-8800m gtx. Yesterday I played the witcher 2 with 3dvision on and, man that was super.. of coarse, I had to lower the resolution and tweak few settings here and there to get a playable 25 fps in average. The card is powerful indeed, pricey but still worth it IMHO.

BTW, did anyone manage to unlock the 1v voltage in nv-inspector for the 580m?

Yes the Extreme CPU's like the 2920XM, 2960XM, in the P170HM ( with the P67 chipset) can be overclocked. I do not know of a dedicated thread here on the forum that has these results.

They are just occasionally mentioned. :)

2920XM and 2960XM can only be overclocked with Intel XTU bios (no other software can do it as of now).
XTU is enabled for the P170HM (since bios 10) but not for the same model with 3D screen. THX CLEVO! :nah:

Hey RS, I refresh a few times a day using CTL F5. To date, it has always worked & I'm rockin' FireFox 7.0.1. About one third of the time I get that advertisement. But I do not have to post a message to have the msg counter show that new pages are available.

I cannot believe how fast the last 100 pages have been put up on this board!!

I agree with you bro, we have a very popular posting going on here. Lots of experience to draw on. I use Firefox 7 also and just love it.

Here is a site to test the java in a browser. IE9 blows and Chrome is probably the fastest with Firefox second.

So, I have decided to try to use the optical audio output on this laptop to a pair of headphones I have. Problem is, the headphones jack is kinda square (almost like a optical equiv of a USB - B port) while the laptops port is quite round. I am having the dickens of a time figuring this out. I Think they are the same protocol, ect. Any ideas?

My TV and my sound system has a round port for our optical out. What you have is something very different. You can't fit a square plug in a round hole. :)

As far as I know there is not a bios out there that will let you overclock the HM65 chipset.

I am sure at least some of us here remember that over the years Clevo has enabled bios overclocking and then a little later take it out of the bios for various models.

The reason is that too many end-users had issues. So the rest of us had to do without it. :(

what i meant was when i mentioned throttle stop is, throttle stop can't allow turbo on all cores instead of it being down throttled? it's not really an overclock but it gives pure performance?

Maximum turbo could potentially overheat the board if you ran it too long. There's a reason it's only supposed to run all 4 cores for as long as temps permit. You can possibly extend that time, but running it like that full time is more than the cooling will most likely be able to handle.

That is true, all the same inside. I have a Malibal Satori. Dealing with them was easy, the price was fair, delivery quick, and the logo on the cover is sophisticated.

I am happy with mine & I have had it since June.
