Is there another Phase update after Phase 3 with XoticPc to know when the laptop reached them ? Or just straight to shipped to customer ?
-
No, you'll go from #3 -> shipped
-
Holy Arctic blast Batman! check this out
NotePal Infinite EVO - Cooler Master
by the by, I really like the Sager advertising instead of "HP". HP=worst service PERIOD. Its cool to click on the logos and see the latest from Sager! -
Unless you're running RAID no, I don't believe so.

OK, I need help here.I have connected my 1920x1080 HD TV to my laptop via DVI-D connection. When I extend my display, I only get the wallpaper. Have tried all settings. I can drag a program to the other display but I don't get the status bar or icons or gadgets. Am I missing something here? Any ideas?

are the gtx 560m model in stocks and shipping now? with no delay or eta build dates?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes they are very much in stock and shipping now. Just the normal build and ship time after order ...

Well i got a MAJOR problem, the freezes just got alot worse, now i keep getting this when booting up :
"Intel UNDI , PXE-2.0 (build 083)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
*** JMicron JMC25X Gigabit Ethernet Controller Version 1.0.9.0 ***
PXE-E61 : Media test failure , check cable
PXE-M0F : Exiting PXE ROM.
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"
The first screen when the laptop boots up it detects hard drives and stuff and all i get is this :
"Detected API/APATI Devices :
Sata Port 1 : WDC WD5000BEKT
Sata Port 2 : HL-DT-ST BDDVD ATAPI"
In the bios it says Sata Port 0 : Not Present
Did my SSD die already? -
Yes, the 560M's on the P151HM1 / 8130, X7200 / 7280 and P170HM / 8170 are shipping in 3-4 days after order.

If anyone who has replaced their thermal compound would like to give an opinion on the state of the heatsink surfaces for the GPU and CPU it would be much appreciated, photos even more so.
I am considering lapping, however if the surfaces are already mating very well, and have negligible surface pitting or scratches, then it may be somewhat a waste of time.
Thanks in advance. -

This is how extending the desktop works. The taskbar only works over one display, not multiple. You can drag gadgets and programs over (and they'll reopen on the chosen display when closed). There are programs out there that will let you extend the taskbar over both screens though (not free). -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Check the connection on the SSD and try swapping the HDD to SATA 0 to see if it's the port or the drive. If the HDD works, and the SSD doesn't work even in SATA 1, then odds are, yeah, your SSD may be dead. It could be that the area in the SSD that held the MBR is faulty/dead controller/dead drive overall. If the bios is not detecting the drive and changing it to another port doesn't help, you may need to RMA the SSD. -
Press and hold Win + P key and select "projector only". Sounds like it is extending the desktop.
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Alternatively, you can right click the desktop itself, go down to "screen resolution" and at the very last option there is: "show only on screen 2".
That should do it.
Mr. Mysterious -
ohhhh, roger that
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
As the others have pointed out though, you can hit windows key + p and do "projector only" to turn off the laptop display and only do the TV. From the wording it sounded like you wanted both though.

Reposting this: Anyone have a solution for when I plug my laptop into my TV via HDMI, it's a bit zoomed in on my TV, but not my laptop. How about WiDi? Will it work on my laptop? Anyone think it's worth it? I heard copyrighted stuff won't work on it. Lastly, what's the word on those new 3D capable screens?
-
That's all good and thanks for the advice everybody. My ultimate goal here is to have 3d studio max running on my laptop as the primary display and then on the secondary display would have a TV tuner I can watch TV while working on my graphics or a movie and also have windows on it. I think the technology is out there, I just have to find a TV with great resolution that can also be a computer monitor. Picture in Picture would be great. So I showed my wife what her game looks like on the 36" flat screen TV and she loved it. That's half the battle. I found a piece of software that more or less made a taskbar on the secondary display. I saw something like this at a company I worked for. Was pretty cool but it was also Windows XP and specially written for the company to run 2 displays. For my wife and her game the Windows key + p would be great as it would shut off the laptop screen and only the big display would show.
@malibal; why doesn't malibal offer an external USB DVD player when the ODD slot is taken up by an optional hard drive. Just curious. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
For the zoomed in part, have you gone through the Nvidia Control Panel and done the "Adjust Desktop Size and Position"? You may have to set a custom resolution. It sounds like you may have an issue with overscan on the TV. Some TV's don't support 1920x1080 input very well and require a bit of tweaking. You can also try changing the picture settings on the TV (fill/stretch/etc).
WiDi: No, it won't work on the sandy bridge Sager models. It requires the iGPU to be active, which it's not on these models. (as well as the a specific intel wireless card and an external receiver box). As far as WiDi being useful, it's not useful for much more than playback. They still have latency issues to work out. As far as I know, they did allow for certain DRM content to be played back as of this version of it- the original WiDi 1.0 didn't allow for that. The latency and input lag make it tough to do much other than streaming content.
3D Display: What were you looking for? The new P170HM models have the 120hz upgrade available plus an integrated 3D transmitter. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
For you, it sounds like just dragging stuff over should work fine. (Welcome to the world of dual monitors!). I've been running 3-4 monitors at home and 2 at my desk at work for quite a while, I've become so used to it I struggle to work on a single screen anymore. It really helps with productivity to spread my work out over multiple screens instead of having a ton of tabs or layered windows.
As for the external DVD player- I'm not sure why we don't have an option for that. I'll have to check and see if we can add it, since it sounds like there is demand! (The caddy was the same way, a customer requested it- so it's since been added as an option!)
-
Thanks for pointing that out! We just added a nice Samsung external USB DVD drive to all of our configuration pages.
-
Thank you very much Malibal! My next laptop will not have a built in DVD as I hardly ever use it. I will be ordering a ODD HDD caddy for my P170HM from you so I will need an external ODD.
This is my dream setup:
I just need $11000Attached Files:
-
-
Nice. However, if you select a HDD in the Optical Drive Bay, it includes the HDD caddy, so you don't need to purchase an additional one.
-
Thanks. As for the 3D display, I already have the 8170, I just want to buy the screen somewhere.
-
So a Malibal Nine X7200 needs "2" AC adapters for the dual GTX485Ms !?!? Why is that and is it possible to only use one adapter
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
With DUAL nVIDIA GTX 485M cards in SLi or DUAL HD 6970M in CrossFireX there are two options for the Power Supply. 2 AC Adapters (instead of 1) + Power Converter Box, or a single AC Adapter without the Power Converter Box. Be aware that under some extreme stress situations using a single adapter may cause the safety breaker to switch off. An example of a high stress situation would be running Furmark in high resolution + Prim95 at the same time. If you find your use trips the breaker, you may contact PowerNotebooks.com with your system serial number to purchase the additional adapter + Power Converter Box at a discounted price of $150.00 + shipping, (full price: $195.00 + shipping)
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
As Paladin said, it's a high power system. Under most cases, you won't need the extra power, but it is possible to overload a single brick and need the second. The 480m required both when running in SLI, but the 485m is much more power efficient. -
You only need to purchase the option with 2 AC Adapters if you get the 990X processor on our Nine X7200. If you pick the 960 or 970 processor, you can select the Dual 485M / 6970M option with only a single adapter.
Also, even with the 990X and Dual 485M / Dual 6970M, you will probably never need to use the 2nd adapter. However, it's theoretically possible to push the system to a point where you would need to use both, so that's why we have to offer this option.
Lastly, we haven't heard any complaints from customers who have purchased a 990X, Dual 485M/6970M configuration, so I would say it's not really something to be too concerned about.

that would be my desktop replacement with the P170HM as travel laptop

New status: Phase 4 (Order Shipped)
can't wait
-
I really don't think you'll gain much from lapping. Your best bet is to go with an exotic thermal compound. The heatsinks aren't completely mirrors but they look pretty good. You might gain a degree or two at best. My past experience with lapping on desktop has been total fail too.
-
Hey Sumik, grats on your phase 4! =P
When did you place your order ?
My np8150-s1 is still in phase 2 and I ordered it 05/18/2011 -
So I got confirmation from Xotic that order hass been shipped today, and ups beelow shows that it will b delivered tomorrow.
Are they pulling my chain or something or can they really deliver that fast, almost 24hrs from Xotic to Canada
Scheduled Delivery:

UPS Express is F A S T!
Congrats and Enjoy it! -
How did you like your Asus N71JQ?
-
It's a fan laptop, I had it for over a month and I loved the sound on it, my brother in law has it right now for college, I'm using g71 as my main till tomorrow
-
Thanks - I have a lapping kit already in addition to some Tuniq TX-3 TC so I may as well give it a go. Will take some pictures and post results.
Can you confirm if the GPU RAM heatsink uses a thermal pad or if they use thermal compound - if it uses a pad then the spacing between the ram and heatsink might be a bit large for practical use of thermal compound is my concern.
Thanks in advance -
RAM thermal is a pad.

Is anyone experiencing crackling distortions from audio both with headphones or the regular speakers. Everything was fine for a long time, got the fn+5, got my setting right and all of sudden experiencing this. From several applications. Haven't dropped it anything similar that i'm aware tat would loosen anything. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Try booting with a Ubuntu live CD to check the software possibility...

can the other resellers in this thread confirm this information?
Sorry if I'm violating any reposting rules -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Please see the response I posted for you there. Refresh rate has nothing to do with the GPU, and 3D vision will essentially depend entirely on Nvidia supporting it. Whether or not any future card is compatible with the system or 3D vision is a Clevo/Nvidia issue. There's just no way to predict it. I doubt Nvidia will phase out 3D at this point, but who knows! -
Well I finally received mine, so happy.
24hrs to ship from Xotic to Toronto, Canada, and I thought it would take 3-4days
I installed all the drivers on the cd, where do you get never amd drivers for this ?
I'm a Nvidia man, so gotta get familiar with amd
-
Congrats and enjoy!

Don't worry, I posted in here a few minutes after I created the other thread, just in case.
Much thanks for everyone's responses! -
Boy are my spirits down today. My NP8170 was shipped over two months now and I'm still waiting. I ordered the laptop from XoticPC. I am receiving the laptop to an APO address in Afghanistan but 2 months is long for any package. I contacted the post office and they told my that my tracking number is invalid and doesn't exist. Great. So much for the security of registered mail.
Out of slight depression and a little bordom, I started messing with the NP8170 page on the XoticPC website and reached a new low. Now for the same price as my orderd laptop with i7-2720QM, GTX 485M, 4 GB RAM, and one 500 GB HDD, I could get a free 8 GB Ram upgrade and two 500 HDDs. Not to mention the fact that the HD6970 is out now, and it wasn't when I pre-ordered my laptop.
Of course all of this wouldn't be so bad if I were playing the stack of games I have here, but I don't even know where my laptop is or if it even exists. Man, did I catch a bad deal on this one. And to top it off, I only have NA beer to drown away my sorrows.
-edit- By the way, this is in no way meant to be a bash on XoticPC unless they messed up my shipping some how. No one could have predicted this turn of events. Just a little depressed is all. -
When shipping to an APO address with USPS, you have to wait 45 days after shipment before you can put a trace on a package. If it's been over 45 days since your package shipped, and you still haven't received it - then you need to contact your reseller, because it should have been there by now.
