Yes, I realize it shouldn't take more than 45 days. That is why I contacted the post office. When they said the tracking number was invalid I contacted my reseller. They told me they would try to work it out. I'm just bummed about my situation. Especially about the free RAM and HDD upgrades being offered now. I know it will eventually get worked out.

Wow, this machine is a beast, I'm loving it so far.

-Screen looks great to me, not getting any annoying bleed through as many mentioned.
-Played Aion, all maxed out settings, 65fps solo, 45fps 6man groups in instances, 35-40fps in big cities with many people
-Temps on gpu idle at 50c and went to 91c after 4hrs of gametime, when I hit fn+1 it went down immediatelly, great cooling system.
-Don't like clicking sound on spacebar

Its a combo eSATA/USB port, so its "powered". As long as the eSATA device your plugging in can take power from that part of the port you are good. So typically all your normal notebook external drives are setup like that, but it won't power a 3.5" drive =)

Lol. Not trying to start a war, but there is the clip right from ye ole clevo website:

    CLEVO - Products

1x eSATA port (share with USB 2.0)

So we are both right. The eSATA port itself isn't powered, however, there is USB there also which is powered, so as long as the esata cable can pull power from the usb part (Like the Seagate Goflex) then you are good to go

Funny that you mention the GoFlex, because I just got the 500GB USB 3.0 version yesterday. I'm really disappointed.

I installed the 3.0 driver which came on the drive, yet I'm getting transfer rates of less than 30MB/second.

So I ordered the eSATA adapter, which I received today (Amazon Prime rocks), and the speeds are currently maxing out around 45MB/second.

I don't know whether it's an issue with the drive, or the notebook, but it's unacceptable.

Never messed with the USB 3.0 attachment for mine goflex set (I have 3 1TB) I do <3 the eSATA cable though works great on my lappy and my desktop. I also got the little NAS dock for it for home too. I'm not surprised over the bad USB 3.0 performance, remember that the goflexes were some of the VERY first USB 3.0 devices that came out. So it probably stands to reason that the little USB 3.0 receiver chips / firmware they have are probably still really green, and with no way to update them they are probably just going with it.

The thing is, I bought it because of the professional reviews, like Cnet, .

They all ran tests, which showed incredible 3.0 transfer speeds. I read at least five of them, looked at all of their benchmark charts, etc., before making the decision.

At this point, I'm going to return it to Amazon.

Hardware wise there isn't a difference, they're both P170HM's under the hood. The only differences will be that our notebook has a MALIBAL nameplate on the lid (you can also opt for no nameplate) and the customer support / warranty. You might also want to compare pricing, to see where the better deal is. :)

    Hi all.
I have the Eurocom version of this notebook. (Eurocom Neptune P170HM)
I'm pretty satisfied with it, the only thing is that I wanted the 15" but it was out of stock.
I have some questions for you guys that have it for some time.

I'm curently using the GPU driver that came with it. And when I unplug it from power, GPU start runing slower. I changed power profile to FULL Performance, but yet when unpluged it slows the GPU. So I was wondering if it's something with the old driver that came. Can I upgrade to the last AMD driver, or its better to keep the Clevo one?

About the Hotkey software, Do you guys use the original from Clevo? I think it lacks options and customization, there is any options, nothing. Is there any other software I can use?

The fingerprint driver came with a software called Protector Suite, that is very old and don't have compatibility with any recent browser. So I installed Authentec TrueSuite, it's good but trial and lack some options.
What fingerprint software do you use?

It's nice to see and talk to people that have same system.
    Thanks.

Notebook batteries are not strong enough to power high-end mobile GPUs, running at full clocks.

Your system downclocks, because there simply isn't any power left.

Need help booting/installing Win7 and Linux to this laptop using a USB flash drive (i.e. don't want to use DVD). Has anybody done this? The USB drives I used for past laptops do not boot on this laptop and I assume it has to do with the laptop's use of UEFI instead of BIOS.

The USB drive I created using Microsoft's bootable USB drive tool doesn't kick off the installation process

On a second USB drive I used dd to transfer the efidisk.img file to the USB drive as stated in Fedora's instructions on how to create minimal boot media but this "minimal boot media" USB disk doesn't boot or take me to a prompt.

Not finding many resources on the net.

The bootable USB tool from Microsoft should work. Just make sure you aren't trying to install with the blue USB 3.0 ports, as they won't show up in Windows until you've got the OS installed as well as the drivers for those ports. Linux may be the same way. Trying booting them up with the USB 2.0 ports.

If that's not the issue, see if another PC will even boot the drives. They may have been corrupted or otherwise not setup properly.

Have a question for those starcraft 2 players out there:

During the intro and ending cinematics, do you guys experience slight pixelation when the movie transitions from black to light environments? (pixels will hang a little bit before finally disappearing).

In addition, even though I have the resolution maxed out, it seems that the CG cinematics don't seem super sharp. There is a general fuzziness to them- is it just me?

I have Ubuntu on a USB stick. I had no trouble booting with it just now using F7 on the boot splash. I did not try setting up the BIOS to include it to the boot order priority... yet.
I was using a USB2 port. no issues at all... same as my old HP dv7... that machine has the BIOS boot order set to USB, CD, HDD already.
I then tried booting to a USB3 port and it went 95% and dropped to a command line prompt, but fully operating. I wanted a GUI so I shut it down and went back to my normal Linux Mint 11 OS from the HDD. (I triple boot: Mint, Ubuntu, W7)

I have no clue about Fedora, they do things a bit different. maybe you should try some flavor of Ubuntu.
Ubuntu Forums is a wealth if information... easy to get lost in that huge forum but a Major resource.

Anyone else having issues with space bar clicking and having to hit it preciselly to register. Space bar has a different sound to it than other keys, makes a clicking sound when pressed.
I noticed that a lot of times space bar won't register and I will have to come back to typing and separate words.

That is a common but very easily fixed issue but be very careful. You can use your finger to smooth over the uneven area. Take a look at the clip and you will understand.

    Hey,

Could anyone please recommend a Pelican case for the NP8170?

I've been looking at the 1495, but I'm not sure if it will fit.

I'd like to be able to keep my PSU in there, with a few other things too.

Hi guys. Just purchased the 8170 on Thursday with rush shipping.
Hopefully i'll get lucky and it will be here soon.

Stock config except for the 6970m and a blu ray reader. Did not want to splash for the 485m as I will not really play too many games on it, but the 560 was too meh lol.

Anything I should know when it comes in? Think I will get lucky and get it somewhat quickly?
I had an Asus G73SW that I am taking back to BB when this one arrives.
I liked the Asus but the non HD screen was horrid to say the least.

Is the stock screen in the Sager a good looking one?

    Thanks guys and take care.

The stock screen is quite nice, it is a huge step up from the one on my HP dv7
mine arrived in 5 calendar days with normal shipping... you should be up by Wednesday.

Was using the USB 2.0 ports from the start. Avoided the blue ports due to driver issues.

Remade the Windows 7 USB disk and it does indeed boot.

Remade 3 USB disks for Fedora
    - a minimal boot disk using Fedora 15 x86_64 efidisk.img
    - a USB disk using the Fedora 14 x86_64 ISO
    - a USB disk using the Fedora 15 ISO

The minimal boot disk does nothing. I see some activity on the USB drive and then the laptop just boots into Windows 7 (which was already installed on the second hard disk)

The Fedora 14 USB disk takes me to a blank screen with a cursor in the upper left. I see some activity on the USB drive and which tells me it tried to boot but then, for whatever reason, it hangs at that cursor.

The Fedora 15 USB disk does nothing; same as the EFI minimal boot media. I see some activity on the USB drive and then the laptop just boots into Windows 7 (which was already installed on the second hard disk)

All the above was done using the F7 boot option.

A DVD disc burned with the Fedora 15 x86_64 ISO boots normally and I am able to begin the installation process.

What program were you using to make the bootable Fedora USB? I had issues myself a year or so ago making an Ubuntu USB with both unetbootin and the usb creator linked from ubuntu. Both ended up making USB drives that didn't boot or hung on install. I only got it working by making a USB drive via another linux distro with a fresh download. Good to hear the disk is working though!

    dd

    The command is:
    dd if=efidisk.img of=/dev/sdc

For the Fedora 15 ISO it is:
    dd if=Fedora15_x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdc

Basically you just provide the path to the image file or ISO file and then the device path. Kind of hard to screw up. The USB disk is named ANACONDA and shows a ISO file format in Gnome's disk utility so it looks like the ISO image was trasferred to the USB properly. The EFI disk reads as an EFI image partition. I can see appropriate files on both disks when mounted. Everything looks right. They just don't boot, even when using the F7 option.

Got another problem. I installed Fedora 15 x86_64 from a DVD that I burned. After installation, and soon after login, I get a "kernal package crash". It typically hits soon after I try to download something, like kernal or package updates. The desktop is still usable. It's not like the whole system blue screens, but the network/ethernet interface is totally hosed. I can bring the ethernet interface down but not back up. If I leave it up, ping fails to work, can't resolve any hosts, firefox doesn't connect to anything, etc. Reboot is the only way to restore the ethernet interface.

hard drive 1 is an Intel X25-M G2 SSD (latest firmware) and this is where Fedora is installed. I used ext4 and encrypted with luks. 3D hardware acceleration is disabled to keep things simple.

hard drive 2 is Windows 7 and is just a regular old mechanical hard drive

I thought my SSD or my ethernet/NIC port was bad but everything works fine in Windows and all diagnostics performed there report back good. So, the hardware looks good.

Has anybody got Linux working with this laptop? If so, are there special settings one must apply when using an SSD?

Link to my plea for help on the Fedora forums: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=265003

Hi everybody i'm new on this forum! :)
And i'm not really fluent in english.. :p

I've just a question for you: you've said that you lived in canada, on Xoticpc.com there is no taxes on the total price.
How much did you pay for it? Did you pay taxes/custom fees when it comes to your door?
I live in quebec and would buy this laptop, but I don't want to pay like $200 more than indicated on the website..

Thanks a lot for you futur answer :)

I don't understand your comment regarding the 6970M and not playing many games because that GPU is very powerful and great for gaming. It out paces the GTX 485M in some benchmarks and if it is slower, it is by a very small fraction of around 10%.

Many report the stock screen in the sager to be terrible but I don't know because I opted for a different one.

What I meant to say was, while I will not play that many games on it, I upgraded from the 560 to the 6970m because I wanted a bit more then the 560 if I needed it.

Yes, unfortunatelly you have to pay taxes when you order anything from US, you have to pay taxes when you buy anything in canada aswell.
Don't b scared to buy, because laptops in Canada are overpriced and you will get something of worse quality/hardware for same price and you will still have to pay those taxes.

My order was around $1750 +$130 shipping and I had to pay around $210 taxes when I was picking it up.

Has there been a UEFI/BIOS firmware update yet? I don't see one on Sager's website but I want to be sure it isn't in some other, semi-hidden location.
