I have been shopping for a few weeks for one of these. Dude works for one of the resellers, gets a great discount, and had 4 for sale when I saw it. Within a couple of hours, only had the one I wanted. I have heard so much about these, and have spent about 6 weeks or so researching. Was going to buy a 2720 with the new Ati card, 4-6 gb ram, until I saw this. Everything I have seen says these are not only top of the line, but the most user configureable lappys available. I can't wait for the next few days until I get my hands on this. I have an extra ssd to put into this, so I can't wait.

hey question. how long does it take for your windows 7's to start up from the first boot page to the desktop? (not counting in the login page if you have one)

i have a 2720, 8gb 1600 ram, momentus hybrid drive and i'm running win 7 64bit but it takes about 40seconds for it to boot. is this normal?

my current dell w/ a 5400rpm hd takes easily twice that sometimes lol.

if you restart your computer a few times in a row, it'll prolly speed up since you have the hybrid drive.. has to learn which files to store on the ssd section

It really depends on hoe many processes you have running and what progams are launched during startup. 40 secs does seem long especially for the momentus xt. I had one before and id get 23 secs on boottimer and 28-30 on bootracer and that with 55 processes on startup.
Are you by chance using itunes? That thing slows down bootups a lot imho.

The Momentus XT can take quite a number of system restarts before it 'learns' the most efficient and quickest way to organise the start up files, or most requested files. Have you given it enough time to do this?

I rarely restart because I just use hibernation but I can resume hibernation in abut 20 seconds it seems. I will be measuring boot times later to get a more accurate figure though.

Yeah, lol. That was kind of an unnecessary question...

So basically you're gonna wanna check your start up programs list (start --> search for "run" --> in run, type "msconfig" --> click Start Up). Disable all the ones you don't need. If you're unsure, a quick google search will tell you what each does :)

Then restart your computer half a dozen times :p hopefully it'll learn by then, and then let's us know your time

So does anybody know what's the deal with RAM? I've got the i7 2720, will 2x4gb of 1600 hyperx ram run at 1600 on the P150hm?

I've found many different answers, but none confirming that 8gb of 1600 ram will run at 1600

The motherboard only has support for 2 slots that run at 1600Mhz. Everything else runs at 1333. That means you can only have a max of 8GB running at 1600Mhz.

Thanks! I will take this as confirmation my 2x4gb 1600 set up will work in 1600. =)

I'm guessing from what i've read the ram will not run at 1600 by default?

it depends. currently, theres two types of DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM RAM modules: one that only runs at 1600 when XMP is enabled (only supported on the P170HM) and the other one natively running at 1600 (meaning its JEDEC compliant). the latter one would be the only option for the P150HM to run 2x4 GB of 1600 RAM, since it doesnt support XMP with its BIOS. So better check what kinda RAM modules u have installed!

    cheers

hey guys these are my temps while playing bad company 2 at 1080

I feel like its a little bit to high if there is in fact thermal paste. I feel since they forgot to put the 2720 in my laptop they may not have put the ic diamond in, although sager said they did =[

seems high to me. what is your room temp? are you blocking the fans while playing maby?

if not you might want to redo the paste job.

so its confirmed that the p150 can run 8 gig @ 1600 now? source please?

and if not, the kingston hyperx will run @1333 on lower timings, so hyperx is better anyway :) or atleast i think :p

The Clevo P150HM service manual states that a total of 2x4GB DDR3 1600 can be placed on any two SO-DIMMS slots.

those temps do seem a bit high for your ambient temps. however you could try putting the fans on max speed by pressing fn+1 and see if that helps your temps.

has the manual been updated lately? i have read that it suports 2x2gb 1600mhz ram, and some says that it theoretically should pull of using 2x4gb

have not yet seen anyone succeed tho. here is a thread about this issue

I think I am gonna return it and opt for another sager or asus model.

This seems to match the research i've been doing. So that means that the Patriot Signature Ram is the only ram that will run at 1600 for us right now since it's JEDEC compliant.

It's strange how manufacturers of the p150hm sell the Hyperx 1600 even though the P150hm can't run it at 1600 because the p150hm doesn't support XMP.

Now the dilemma: Should i cancel my order for the HyperX 1600 I have from newegg and buy the patriot signature?

I know that the HyperX have a pretty good reputation for reliability and gaming...

I do not know if the manual has been updated; PM user "theriko" regarding manuals (he's the expert in that field). I remember someone having the 1600s in their laptop and gaining the right CL timings and I was thinking of ordering a pair myself.

Perhaps check the application of the thermal paste. If it wasn't well done, take a pic of it, re-paste, then take it up with your reseller to see if you can get any compensation for the re-pasting.

I'd say that you may see about exchanging it. If it was only temps, I'd tell yoh to repast yourself, and see about getting compensated by your reseller. But since they already screwed you on the processor, I'd say that's the end of the line. I personally am not going to be very forgiving when I drop $3k on a laptop, and they screw up my order..

Did they ever like refund you for the processor screw up?

Yea they offered me a refund on the processor or free shipping back to them to to get the CPU upgrade. I did not want to send it back and have the laptop in transit, which may have caused further problems.

Trying to decide what laptop to get now >_< Or order the same one again with the AMD card O_O

@Tiptip battery life is around 3 hours depending on what your doing.

Does anyone else get the white screen of death while playing Bad Company 2? I don't think it's a hardware issue, as it happens on my friends computer that I was using before I received my 8150. What happens is that the screen goes black after playing for about five minutes, and then screen screen goes black before turning all white. You're still in control of the game, as you can move and hear all the sounds, but you can't see anything.

The only fix that works was forcing the game to run in DX9 but modifying the GameSettings configuration file.

Not sure if I should return my 8150 to switch to the 6970M. (Wonder if my reseller can arrange something like they send me a 6970M and I send the 485M back).

Even I switch to the 6970M, I could even afford to get the 8150-S1 with the matte screen since the price difference between the 6970M and the 485M is quite substantial.

Not sure if the ~2 week round trip merits it though.

How do I know if its a lemon? Nvidia claims 90-95c are safe temperatures but looks like I was the only one getting this high.

Since I am in Canada Sager has different policies on return/shipping. They will only replace the laptop once a return RMA has been initiated, but they will not cover the shipping from me to them, or to xoticpc (They need to remove the screen upgrade and put the stock screen before going to Sager).

I already started the RMA, tomorrow I am going to UPS/Fedex to ship it back. It sucks that I have to pay the return shipping but I guess this is the burden of not being satisfied with the purchase.
