I don't think I need it, but it was cheap ($60) for 8gb. I have never spent this much on technology in my life, so I figured I would go all out.

The kobalt was going ahead but needed the money from that to fix my car as it was not on finance so i had to cancel. The new one is on 12 month interest free finance with pcspecialist so i pay that next year.
Ive dealt with pcspecialist in the past and had no problem with them so hopefully this beast will be great. -

Ahhh ok. It would make no sense to own 3 top-of-the-line gaming notebooks at the same time, lol.

can someone please provide for me the power consumption for the sager np8150 (with 485m) in watts during:
- idle
- full cpu load
- full cpu + graphics load
- idle without battery plugged in charging
thank you -
-
Post a pic or 2 when it arrives! -
-
thinkin you'd need a kill-a-watt device
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
Maybe HWInfo?
Mr. Mysterious -
you need a small device that you plug in into the power outlet. this device has a built in outlet and small lcd screen. anything you plug into it will display the watts, voltage, amperage currently being used by the device you pluged into it. Its extremely useful device! i use it to view the power consumption of all my eletrical devices arounbd my house. best part is that its very affordable. about $20-$40 at the hardware store.
-
i got hwinfo and i cant see this info there.
i think hizzah is right only kill a watt will do. too bad i dont have one.
but i think there are many such data on the different reviews posted on tech websites -

Any reputable resellers that finance a purchase of a NP8150 (looking to spend around 2k)?
Edit: Located in USA. -

Just in case anyone is interested in a game for their gaming laptop, GTA IV: Complete Edition is available from D2D for only $8+tax ($10-2 coupon).
Direct2Drive: Buy Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition Download
Use promo code SHOWERS to take $2 off. -
Coupon code doesn't work
still nice price though! Damn, I still need to wait for another 1,5+ more week for the laptop to arrive
-
quick question tho: u want idle with battery installed / non-charging and idle with battery removed? that it? -
For some reason my USB3.0 inputs shut off when I load Starcraft2 =[
My keyboard was plugged in there and I'm like is going on!
Time to download some new drivers -
-
-
The Steam Summer Sale will include all of those. Just wait a month or so.
-
min. idle (screen off, all network adapters disabled, sound off, no devices connected to USB, battery intalled, not charging / removed): 33-35 W
max. idle (screen brightness 100%, WLAN on, mouse connected, browsing + instant messaging, no active input): 40-42 W
max. CPU (Prime95, 8 Threads, max. heat / power consumption option): 103-104 W
all max. (Primer95 + Furmark all Settings max & Extreme Burning Mode): 205-209 W
no difference between battery installed / not charging and battery removed, btw.
cheers -

Never had a problem buying GTA IV from D2D, they are owned by IGN I believe. Btw, it's GTA IV Complete Edition which includes episodes from Liberty City. You won't find that any cheaper anywhere. -

$7 for shipping?!?!?! No thank you...
Mr. Mysterious -
So I thought I would post this here (this post really isnt anything productive or a question), but i just needed a location or just to tell people I HAVE JOINED THE SAGER SECTION!!.
Sorry just had to get that out of the way, it feels awesome to tell people you've bought something new and amazing. Anyhow I just recently purchased the Sager NP8150-S1, with 95% matte, 2720 i7, and the brand new (and hopefully just as good as the 485m) 6970 ATI, and was just wondering, with ATI cards, should I expect anything different, as I have always used an Nvidia, and when I say expect something different is the overclocking process difficult? easy? Should i update the drivers periodically or? -

Welcome! But there's no card called the i7 2730
Mr. Mysterious -
teehee.
Anyhow Im seriously considering switching to the 485m because people are mentioning so many problems with the ATI cards. Are they justified though? I mean I don't accept any opinions that do not have hard facts but many people seem to have personal experiences with the Cards that they fail quite easily. Because I'm hoping that the notebook would last me 2 years should I swap it out or should I just keep it? -

Umm....what problems are you talking about? The 6970M has not been around for problems to start popping up (at least I don't think) and is an excellent value. I'm actually a little jealous of you
If you take good care of your laptop, it will easily last you 4+ years.
Mr. Mysterious -
Everyones has been looking down on the 6970 because of its predecessors, like the 5850. -
i doubt the PSU could handle any more, at 214W it would already show an 84% efficiency rating and i doubt that its actual rating would be much lower than like 80% (resulting in a max. possible load of 225W, which 214W is already getting dangerously close to). Funny thing is, this is probably gonna be my very first computer that i wont be overclocking the sh*t out of right away, since it has such an awesome amount of power reserves to begin with!and with the upcoming upgrade possibility of ivy bridge and possible future MXM 3b GPU cards, there wont be any need for quite some time as well
cheers -
It seems like I am getting a bunch of compatibility errors. I'm trying to install updated drivers to fix my USB 3.0 ports and the drivers are extracting into mozhilla firefox and when it competes I get an error saying failed to install correctly, and a compatibility error. I don't know why the .exe drivers from sager is using win-rar to extract (I never installed win-rar).
Not to discourage anyone (I'm a newby) but I am not liking this problem. When I load up starcraft 2 with my keyboard plugged into the usb3.0 ports it stops working. I tried to switch my mouse to there and it also stopped working when I loaded the game.
Any help would be appreciated (Do not say just use the usb 2.0 port, which I have done and works fine...I don't want malfunctioning ports and want to be able to use the 3.0 ports like regular 2.0 ports, or else it would be a waste) -

Where are you downloading your drivers from?
Mr. Mysterious -
You may want to try it out. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
These drivers should work with the 8130, yes?
If so, I'll download and install them just to be safe.
Mr. Mysterious -
I would say don't mess with the firmwares unless you have problems with them, mrmysterious66. It won't be fun if doing that causes problems for you.

Problem is, I haven't had a chance to test out USB 3.0 speeds....so no way of knowing if they're functioning well.
I did plug a USB 2.0 drive into it, and it worked fine.
Mr. Mysterious -
i'd imagine they're ok then.. the issues other people seem to be having are with them not working at all..
on another note, has anyone found a good way to keep this rig dust-free? i know earlier someone mentioned carrying a swiffer in their bag, but i feel like i'd look retarded swiffering my laptop in the middle of a lecture lol -

I am so excited. I had a friend buy me a Sager 8150 off of Craigslist. 2820, 485, 12 gb ram, Blueray drive, win 7 installed... $1900. Still in box. Seller opened and booted to show the specs. He works for a reseller, I have been looking and spec'ing resellers, but this one fell into my lap. As the old saying goes, sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. I will see and get it in a few days.... I am so freakin excited.
