Is it possible to undervolt or downclock the 6970m to reduce power usage and increase battery life when doing non intensive tasks(working with Ms Word etc.)?
According to notebookcheck, sager's with 6970m battery life on idle is 1 hour shorter compared to one with the 485m(so it's about the same with 460m?)

Also, maybe it would be possible to turn off/slow down fans during idle, as sager with 6970m is running cooler than 485m on idle. I think it's because of non-stop working fans(??)

Sorry for such stupid questions, but I really can't decide what to buy - well configured 8150 with 460m or almost base config. with 6970m :)

Not even the nVidia GT330M in my old sony down clocked as much as my GT485M does in idle mode. It's incredible that I get 3 hours of work with this fully spece'd out notebook on battery alone. nVidia has done a great job in powersavings with this card.

The GPU is under the numpad, to the right.

EDIT: Not directly under the numpad of course.

erm would I be able to disable the discrete gpu through bios or smthing? If not thru stock bios than is there at least a modded bios out there that allows me to do so?

    Thanks in advance

yeah, that's gonna suck if that happens lol.. It changed to 2 business days left last night at like 1030 I think so idk what that means, but it hasn't updated it's location since 1:30 yesterday afternoon :/ that's almost 23 hours. Where could it be going that it would take that long? I mean i can drive from Austin, TX to Orange County, CA in 23 hours lol

yeah, I hope so :) otherwise I may ask them for another solution. I'm sure it was around $150 for the drive+the enclosure, so I'd want something that works and wil be reliable

This is good to hear :) thanks for the info

Mine's stuck at Departure from Hodgkins, IL, United States and hasn't updated since 8:58am yesterday. :( Since you seem to have the same problem I'm going to just hope it's their system right now and that nothing's been lost.

Don't worry ZahariasX. Mine didn't update for like 3 days. Probably because it was in a truck for almost the whole trip.

so is the 6970 a battery killer / portable heater when you aren't playing games ?

I'm about to purchase from mythlogic and may go with the 460 since I don't play games.

I do not think you'll need the 6970m if you're not playing games...

The 460m is more than enough for the average user.

well, join the club, i had to downgrade back to 1.01.04 because of this annoying SATA port SSD issue: P150HM / NP8150 BIOS issue with SSD drives

would be nice to have access to the fan controls so we could fix the cycling issue! too bad that speedfan doesnt work here!

    cheers

And let me vouch for the screen on the 8130: It is excellent! Good viewing angles, no glare, good color reproduction (in my opinion, anyways...I'm not a photographer or anything).

You need to go into msconfig (just search for it in the windows start menu) and then go to the "startup" tab. Uncheck all of the unnecessary processes, and that will speed your startup time immediately.

You will need to restart though (a box will prompt you).

i think it did when it formatted itself for the fresh install..? thats why you lost your speed. thats how those XT drives work.. once it figures out what files you'll be regularly using, it'll store em on the 4gb ssd part and will speed em up

I just tried to install the G.SKILL RAM some of us bought a month ago.

I think I installed them correctly but when I tried to boot the laptop up, the screen would not turn on!
Does anyone have a video of how to install RAM for the newby? I have seen videos that show the slots but not how to put the RAM in :p I felt like I was going to break the RAM lol.

edit: The screen on max brightness is SO BRIGHT! Should help finding keys at night =]
