Where's his fingerprint reader?![]()
-
edit: @this is a lamp
just read in ur review that u accidentally bought the wrong HDD ODD caddy? which model did u buy and where? cuz i already ordered and received mine from newmodeus and it would s*ck if that was the wrong model (especially since i live in germany and had to order this thing in the US!) -
Hey nllptr, did you get any confirmation of your NP8150 being shipped?
-
-
and those are some solid pictures ! -
Excellent review, thanks very much!
-
Fingerprint readers are optional. So you can opt to have it or not.
And yes I accidentally bought the wrong one...here's a picture of comparison between the NP8150's DVD drive and the one I bought. Top is DVD drive, bottom is the wrong ODD:
This may also help others in choosing their caddies
And thanks everyone for reading! There's still so much more I can put though! And thanks to Jack-LBO for helping me through sales since January-February and patiently answering tons of questions -

@Thisisalamp, very nice indeed!

The caddy you need is a SATA to SATA caddy, the bottom one in the picture is (unknown) to IDE.
-
.
The SATA/SATA caddy is on the way though. -

too bad you dont have the default screen as i wanted a comparison between the fhd screen of the 8690 and the default fhd screen on the 8150 -
$99 for a Matte upgrade, is very tempting
I was originally heading towards the glossy direction...but found out that the screen was the same as Mythlogic's premium screens so I took the plunge. -
See here: http://whrl.pl/RcFpAq
For a comparison of standard 8150 (P150HM) screen and matte screen side by side.
This is actually a B5130, but the stock screens are the same, i made sure of it before writing posting this. -
Just got my tracking number
EDIT: Scheduled Delivery:
Friday, 03/18/2011, By End of Day
(Ordered 1/31 and check was put it line around Feb 7-9) -
Got mine in on the 15th! Got everything working without a hitch. Just fyi, for the issue with the vibrating ODD. On my old HP dv5, StarCraft 2 would vibrate like crazy when installing, but every other disc worked just fine. With this laptop, the install went smooth. It vibrated a tad when initializing the disc, but the install was just like any other install.

We are happy to report that good sized shipments of the NP8130, NP8150 and NP8170's are shipping out each day...
-
Hopefully the 6790M won't be out until a couple of months later so I don't have to get that terrible feeling of buyer's remorse.
-

Or more like good sized shipments have not have not slowed down since they arrived into stock.
I am sure every day the UPS driver dreads the pick up's -

Maybe it is not much to go on, but in Australia P150HM with 6970m is 4 weeks away. It is more or less just a slightly cheaper alternative, we will still stock the GTX485 as well.
-
only 4 weeks? wonder if that means sooner for US resellers? hmmmmm.... wish sager was more open about their release dates, but i know they're trying to milk what they can from the retardedly priced 485m we're all wanting/getting.
well.. my lappy should be shipping by the end of next week (unless i have to change it again for the new ssd's that're supposed to be out on monday). then there's the 30 day return period so hopefully i'd be able to swap my 485 for a 6970 and get a bit of $$ back.
-
Woo, got mine in today and typing this up on it right now! Going to put up a massive review on here/reddit tomorrow methinks.
I don't understand the keyboard complaints though, this is a fantastic keyboard I think. The trackpad is a tad annoying, granted, but the keyboard works just as I'd have hoped.
It was the optical drive caddy that threw me for a loop (no instructions and I went full on retard for a few minutes before I figured out how to open it and put it together with the misc. parts Malibal had in the box) -
Sweet, looking forward to your review. I haven't seen any other reviews where they ordered from Malibal. Do you think you could do a video showing trackpad usage?
-
On topic: look forward to your review also. The more perspectives, the better. -
For a quick look at benches, here's a link to the ones I have up so far. Windkull might appreciate this most because I put in a composite of benchmarks I ran last night on my XPS. It's an unfair comparison to be sure, but you can get a better feel for the upgrade
Sager 8150 Benches - Imgur
I do like the minimal branding Malibal put on here though. It consists of a simple 1/2" tall Malibal name in silver on the lid. That's it.
I'll have a ton more pictures and maybe some video up tomorrow. More benches too. -
What driver do you guys use? I use the one that came with the laptop - 265.77. It works great, but i hope when the new driver comes, the GTX 485M will shine even more. BTW anyone know the max rated mhz on the vram?
Heres a 3dmark06 i ran with an OC on core/shader. 700/1400/1500 -
@ Eivind
nice score. was hoping it wouldn't take much to put it over 20k. what proc? -

I will finally be able to get my hands on mine tomorrow evening. Can't wait! Poor thing is just sitting in the box at my sis' -

-
Looking forward to that review as well! Hope you are enjoying the laptop.

I would like to mount a second hard drive instead of the DVD/CD drive. Which type do I need for the Clevo P150HM, and are there any resellers for this caddy in Europe?

All in all, it was like 40 (shipping cost of 7-8 included) for me, which isn´t all that bad condering its from overseas! And it also just took like a week to arrive -
just buy those caddies off ebay, its cheaper

But so far here are some benchmark scores: (Stock speeds)
3DMark Vantage Trial P14889 3DMarks
3DMark06 Free 19750 3DMarks
EDIT 2010-03-17: I finally tried OCing the GPU just doing safe tests, temps are the same as stock clock speed maxing at 69C. OC only on the Core Clock from 575 to 650 Mhz.
3DMark Vantage Trial P16499 3DMarks
3DMark06 Free 20279 3DMarks
EDIT 2010-03-19: I tried a higher clock now, GPU temp still stayed at 69C or lower, however this is on a cooling pad, the pad's fans seem to have no impact but it does mean the bottem is on an open surface.
Core Clock 700 Mhz
3D Mark Vantage Trial P17415 3DMarks
3DMark06 Free 20668 3DMarks
EDIT 2010-07-17: New results with newer drivers. 275.33

aah, this looks much better already, thanks for the update!
received another email from deviltech, my "beast" is gonna ship next week, yeeeehaw! -
My laptop has arrived
Edit: Starcraft II does seem to be an oddball disk. It rattles as someone described before. Maybe it's rotating at a resonant frequency.
Edit2:
I tried my invisible shield on the track pad idea. It works well in terms of the texture but this one was bent so I need to get another one of something.
Also, ugly but could be seamless if cut properly. -
Congrats on getting your laptop nllptr
Great that you like it. Mine hasn't shipped yet. I think you get in line on the date your order was placed so yours was January 31.
Can any reseller shed some light as to what order date Sager is currently shipping? Thanks! -
Woot, Starcraft II runs at 60FPS with everything at the highest settings. Overall the machine seems to be much quieter than the NP8690 (W860CU) and has a better overall feeling to it
The touchpad isn't as bad as people make it out to be. In fact, the hardware itself is much, much better than the 8690. Two finger scrolling works almost as well as on macbooks and the buttons actually click. -

wow, i ordered mine on jan 28 and still no tracking number

well i dont want to put my reseller in bad light, but hopefully i recieve my tracking number early next week

I have finally unboxed my 8150, and I am loving it so far.
My very brief impressions so far (bear in mind that when I say "any laptop I have owned thus far", I have never owned a high-end laptop before):
Screen
Plenty bright - brighter than any other laptop I have owned thus far. I haven't had a chance to use the machine in a location with lots of ambient light yet, so I can't say a lot about "how bad the gloss is" on it. However, I have yet to notice any significant light reflection so far.
Keyboard
Got used to typing on it almost instantly. I like the subtle bounce in the keys as I am typing. However, as many have also mentioned, I have a little bit of trouble with the RHS portion, with the 3-column numpad, and the cursor keys thrown into the mix.
Trackpad
I honestly don't really have a very big problem with the rubberized finish on the trackpad, although I can see how others who are used to much smoother surfaces might be annoyed by it. It didn't really bother me that much, plus I use a mouse most of the time.
Fans
I haven't paid particular attention to it, if that's saying anything. It pretty much gets drowned out as white noise. I have to actively listen for it in order to take notice.
Speakers
Best set of speakers I have owned in a laptop thus far. However, bear in mind that these are still laptop speakers, and do still sound tinny at times.
The only game I have installed so far is Guild Wars, which doesn't really tax any halfway decent system very much. I will be loading up more games in the coming days, and will leave my impression if I remember
