This is odd. When I click on the link from my post, it works but when I click on the link in your quote, it doesn't...what sort of black magic trickery is this?

Test AMD Radeon HD 6970M Grafikkarte - Notebookcheck.com Tests

and also it was skewered against the 6970
    740qm+6970 benchmarks
    2630+485 benchmarks

still the 6970 still came up with very impressive numbers and for a mere additional $63 from 460m

Where are people getting this pricing from? I keep seeing numbers thrown around, but no links. And I highly doubt that running a 2630QM instead of the 740QM will greatly improve results. I think it's a good alternative to the 470m but not the 485m.

This $75 upgrade seems like a steal!
when will other online resellers get these GPU? Do you guys know if the NP8130 will also get a chance of upgrading to these?

FYI...75 is CAD not USD. :)

Also, you no longer need 8130 cuz this model has matte screen. (minus 4GB ram from 8130) + upgraded CPU.

    heh Burnih2o :p

The Canadian dollar is stronger than the American dollar right now...I believe like .99 CAD for every USD :p Is what my bank will give right now.

My problem with Eurocom is that I want one more specs like the Sager NP8130 which ends up over $2000, while on sites like xoticpc and reflexnotebooks it should be less than $1825.

alright, would i notice any difference in the 6mb l3 cache to 8mb l3 cache (2720 vs 2820) if not, i dont think the 100mhz is worth 1500 Norwegian kroners (aprox 250 usd) difference. im about to make the order soon @ 17000 NOK (2900 USD) damn Norway is so expensive:/

i7 2720, 8gb ram, 500gb momentus xt, gtx 485 and no os (matte scren)
norway has 25% tax and is otherwise overpriced on everything. i i were to import i would stil have to add 25% and is not the danish keyboard a little different? (swap of æ and ø)

but what do one need the extra l3 cache for? what tasks does it seem useful in?

    edit*

your page seems ever more expensive than the one in norway. think ill stick to the one i got ( www.multicom.no)

Between the extra cache and the higher clocks, you will see about a 10% speed boost from the 2720 and the 2820. It's really up to you weather the cost difference is worth the speed difference.

Do you have any test results that you could link to that would substantiate your claim of a 10% speed boost?

What applications can take advantage of the extra 2MB of Cache?

    EUROCOM Racer $1,591 USD

System EUROCOM Racer; 15.6-inch Full HD 1920x1080; GLOSSY (Glare Type); LED Backlit Display
    VGA 2GB GDDR5; AMD Radeon Mobility HD6970M
    2.20 GHz Intel i7-2720QM
    Memory Configuration 4GB; 2x 2GB; DDR3-1333
    Hard Drive: 320GB; SATA-300; 7,200rpm; 16MB cache; Seagate
Operating System(s) Microsoft Windows 7 Premium 64-bit; OEM; English
Optical Drive 8x Multi DVD +-RW/-RAM Burner; Dual Layer
Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n Intel WiFi Link 6300; up to 450Mbps

With a price like that from Eurocom, I can't wait to see what xotic and other US retailers will offer. But most of all, I want some 6970m + SB benches! If it's only 10-15% behind the 485 then the $400 savings will be worth it IMO.

There is absolutely no way to back up my numbers, but if you look at the last generation of CPU’s that is about what the difference was (720-820), and they share similar differences in this generation. I was trying to give a ballpark number to give the person an idea of what to expect that is why I used the word “about”.

You have a better number to give?

Edit: As far as what programs can use the extra cache, well the one I use a lot, FS9 can. Programs that use (or have) large data sets can benefit from the extra cache more so that programs that don’t

Edit: actually looking at the number looks stock.

Not being ready in two to three weeks sounds promising. I was expecting them to say two to three months! Heck if we get confirmation in two to three weeks I may have to cancel my 485m and get the 6970.

    Thanks Justin for that clarification.

Now is there any way to get a solid date when they'll ship units other than "beginning of February"? I'm concerned with the Chinese New Year as mentioned that these units may get pushed to end of February or beginning of March even. Or even confirmation that the Chinese New Year will not delay shipment of units.

Delays due to the Chinese New Year are not expected this year. Plans have been made to keep many workers on because they cannot get transportation home, so they are staying to work...with premium pay of course :)

Is it just me or do those 4k writes/reads and access times look very poor?? Does this mean that the Intel Series 6 chipset still sucks the life out of the SSDs?

It's the same issue that affected the 5 series chipsets. I wish either Intel or Microsoft would come out with a true fix for this.

Thanks Justin! Looks like its copper heatsinks and not aluminum like previously stated. Maybe the CPU fins behind the fan are aluminum.

Also, it was mentioned that the other two memory slots should be "easily accessible". Any way to get a video on how to access those?

    Thanks.

I have noticed a couple other resellers say it is hard to access but it is very easy to access the other ones. Joseph is making a quick video on it now. Basically to the right side of the GPU Headsink Fan there is a hole you have to press a small screwdriver in and it will pop off the panel above the keyboard. After that is off you will see 5 or so screws to remove the keyboard. Will have a video for you all here shortly. :)

EDIT: Video Uploading now will provide the link once it has finished uploading.

thanks for that excellent review justin
so is it confirmed that ALL 8150's will come with copper heatsinks for both gpu and cpu? the first pics we got showed aluminum for cpu.
also were the fans on max during the vantage run?
and lastly, would you know what the ambient temps were when the test/review was done?
thanks, and cant wait to order one myself

This is a regular production 8150, so what you see is what is being provided :)

The fans were not adjusted during vantage runs, they were running at default speeds. Were a little cold blooded here in Nebraska in the middle of Winter, our office is about 69-70F. ;)

Was it using stock thermal paste or IC Diamond? And thanks for uploading the video for RAM access. I'm assuming it's the same on the NP8170?

I believe it is very similar to the 8170. No problem on the video upload, 20 minutes left. :) This was with stock thermal compound. So IC Diamond should show some improvement on our temps. We are still pushing the 485M closer to 18K

Hi everyone. Battery life 1.0: Battery Life - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com is estimating 2 hours 30 minutes on full battery save mode with the screen brightness turned all the way down. Keeping the screen brightness at the halfway point drops your estimation to 2 hours 14 minutes and full screen brightness brings your battery life estimation to about 2 hours 8 minutes.

Obviously this is going to be dependent on what you are doing and most likely these estimates are only going to be accurate if you are just web surfing or working within an office like program. Gaming or other more intensive programs will drop your battery life significantly.

I hope that helps and please let me know what other questions you guys have. I did the review video for this and I will say that I have been very impressed with the performance of this laptop.

Justin, is there any chance Sager would offer the matte on the 8150 if enough people asked for it?
