Yes, every authorized dealer is currently out of stock at this time. The ETA is still the end of January. Of course the orders are shipped in the order that they are recieved...

Honestly, I think that it will take at least 2 or 3 years for them to be affordable, but still HDD will still be cheaper. Any technology really takes a while for the price to come down. A prime example is HDTVs. I remember they were in the 1000's just to get 1080p, but now you can get a damn nice one for less than $1000. Just my thoughts

Any retailer person here from deviltech? I only found a bad review from that store. My main point is about temperatures 'cause I don't want to RMA the laptop (I'll must pay the shipping cost to repair it). I want to know if they build solid laptops.
P.D: Contacted via web, but I trust more in your reviews than a deviltech's sales persons. -

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Working on the review as we speak. Hope to have it up by tonight.
Nevermind no chance. I realized I have to catch up on a project thats due next week. Have to have it up tomorrow. -
I have been thinking the same thing too. Paypal took my money out as soon as I wrote the e-check and that was sometime last week. I think this is the first time I've spent money on something and been clueless when I'd ever receive it. -
I debated waiting until they were actually available in quantity, but I knew new tech parts would be a little hit or miss in the start so wanted to get in line.
-
Exactly. I would rather be in line and get the laptop sooner. If anything is amiss (which I highly doubt) there is always a return option too.
-
Is it just the 460 that's backordered, the the 8150 as a whole?
-
-
from the german revieew it seems the CPU is improperly cooled. anyone have readings of the CPU? do you guys think there will be overclocking headroom with the 2920xm. is overclocking allowed in bios or is it going to be via throttle stop only? once its supported

however, you could also ask your friend to run the same tests as forerunner. would be interesting to see how the 2820qm affects gaming performance. also, it would likewise be interesting to see how hot the 2820 gets even if its rated as 45tdp also. -
-
is the np8150 more popular then the np8130 right now?
Are the 8130's still in stock? I was going to buy one today or tomorrow when the new dual cores are announced -
I received confirmation that mine is coming tomorrow or after tomorrow.
Of course I will prepare a review with fraps benchmarks of a few games.
Probably, I'll try 2 games heavy on GPU and 2 games heavy on CPU.
I will try to avoid games which have already been tested on the german websites.
Also I would like to test this notebook with my 30 inch screen. Let's see if you can game a little at 2560x1600 with nowdays notebook.
I will also confirm is my crucial C300 is working at full potential or not with this new chipset.
Should be fun -

Just ordered mine from reflexnotebook.ca yesterday should be here by end of the month... hopefully. cost me 2000$ with taxes, shipping and custom brokerage fees.
Sager NP8150-S1 Base config
Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M GPU with 1.5GB GDDR5
2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM Processor ( 6MB L3 Cache, 2.20GHz)
IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 2 X 4GB
750GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive
8X DVD±R/RW/4X +DL Super-Multi Drive & Software
Internal 802.11 B+G+N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module
Anybody know if the IC thermal compound really is good, by how much degrees does it make the cpu-gpu temps drop. -
I don't know what your specific uses are for your build but personally I would have swapped the SSD for a Momentus XT if they have that, swapped the CPU back to the default one (lowest is still more powerful than the highest last gen), swapped the 8GB to 4 or 6GB, not bothered with the IC Diamond thermal paste and swapped the GTX 460M to the GTX 485M for the over 50% better performance. -
Some of us prefer the CPU power over GPU...
I personally do, as all I do is matlab and spice simulation stuff...
And also, the Momentus XT and the Intel SSDs have a huge gap.
The access time and 4K IOPS differences are still far behind.. -

how the tech fits a clevo with new AMD 6970m.
This is NOT the new NP8150, but it is still worth having a look at the GPU.
I hope it will soon land inside NP8150 and we will be able to compare the NV card. -
So sleek looking, not that it matters, but it hell looks awesome in black! -

can we really trust these guys from notebookcheck??
-
They seem to be the same to what we know previously.. slower than 485m but not that far behind
-
is there going to be a significant performance increase with SB CPU?
I am asking because if it was within -20% of NV's performance and the price would be right, this lappy is mine with AMD 6970m -

The latop is almost my desktop replacement, I use it for photos, videos, watching movies, MSN/AIM, emails, forums and to log my car. I'm not a gamer but I want it able to support it in case.
The HD available were :
# 750GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive
# 500GB 7200rpm SATA Hybrid Hard Drive with 4GB SSD (I would save 145$ over the SSD)
# 80GB Intel SATA2 Solid State Disk Drive
# 120GB Intel SATA2 Solid State Disk Drive
# 160GB Intel SATA2 Solid State Disk Drive
I went with SSD cause I use the laptop sometime to make log in my car (600WHP car) so it move a lot.
The IC Diamond thermal paste was included and 8GB was the minimum.
I had a deal on the 2820 over the 2720 for 62$ more only, so it was too good to let go.
About the GTX 460M vs 485M, it was 510$ more, is it really worth it ? I mean I can call back and change that, it would squeeze my balls a bit though.
Are they both supporting 3D movies ?
Thanks

I guess if you are using your laptop in the car and it moves around a lot I imagine the pure SSD to be a good choice. The $510 extra for the GTX 485M is a lot more than I expected and is too much to justify even though it would be a great boost. The GTX 460M will be fine for now and you can always upgrade at a later time.
Even though the CPU upgrade was only $62, I would question whether it was worth the difference of i7 2820qm 8MB cache at 2.3 - 3.4 Ghz Vs i7 2720qm 2.2 - 3.33 Ghz 8MB cache. -
# 2nd Generation Intel® Core i7-2720QM Processor ( 6MB L3 Cache, 2.20GHz)
# 2nd Generation Intel® Core i7-2820QM Processor ( 8MB L3 Cache, 2.30GHz)
But for 62$ more it's no big deal on a 2.5K$ laptop.
Eric -
$62 to go from a 2720 to a 2820? That is a steal! no doubt I would do that in a second.

-
I got mine from a canadian reseller, all in all I paid a bit more then you guys in USA would pay for the same thing. (Just checked out on Donald's site ^).
The 62$ deal was possibly a mistake on their side, I shut my mouth and took it. Now that it's paid, I don't think they can change it.
Eric -
Mine is a Sager 8150-S1.

How big is the power supply? Also, is it worth it to purchase the 485m, the pricing seems excessive as does the performance. The most tasking games I play are Starcraft II, Bad Company 2 and perhaps Battlefield 3 when it is released. I dont mind not running these games at extreme settings but im wondering how they perform on a 460m at the native res of this laptop (1920x1080).
-
vs. the info on the 460M. NotebookCheck
From the links, you can see the difference in the framerates on Ultra settings... on BC2, the 460M runs at an average of 30fps while the 485M is pushing nearly 50fps. SC2? Average of 32fps on the 460m and 56.5fps on the 485m.
In my opinion, it is worth the money because it's the best mobile card at the moment and will still be great down the road. Despite that, a lot of people are waiting for ATI's 6970M ( NotebookCheck) to be placed in this model because it is close to the 485M in terms of power (47.6fps on BC2, 58fps on SC2) and is cheaper.
As far as the power supply, it's 180W. -
-
6970 is the way to go - $440 less than the pricey 485 and less power consumption - willing to wait a few more weeks before I make my purchase-yehayyy! 485m deal is a money tech hole compared to the 6970.
-
What do you mean $440 less? Where did you get that info? And I haven't seen any concrete benchmarks yet either. Only one I've seen puts it slightly ahead of the 460m and well below the 485m.
-
You are right about the benchmark. There is no real benchmark of 6970 and by that I mean 6970 paired with SB CPU like 485...
