Then I guess the 8150 is the best marriage of power and battery life. 3 hours sounds good. the 460GTX should be more than enough for Battlefield 3/Homefront and Old republic...

I need the laptop mainly for using Unreal Engine 3(UDk) and Unity 3.0...this baby should do me fine...

Also I assume I can connect this without any problems to my Dell 24" with a HDMI to DVI cable?

Hey guys. New around these parts but I just got my 8150 delivered tonight and ran a couple quick benchmarks before bed. They are more or less just confirmations Forerunner's results. I'll try to get around to some game results tomorrow after work. Feel free to make some requests.

Tests were run at stock using a i7-2820M and a GTX 485M.

Furmark didn't go over 80 degrees at any point over 15 minutes, and merely placing it on a notebook cooler dropped temps to about 75 degrees.
    Stock 3dMark Vantage 14908 (only 1 run)

Other thoughts: Even though I haven't had much time with it, aesthetically the machine has a great look and feel to it, and even at 80 degrees during Furmark it wasn't really noisy, though the fans were definitely noticable.

BF3 is my only concern at 1080p. I opted for the GTX 485m so hopefully I'm set. The 460m is a good card, only not sure how it'll manage 1080p games in the future too well. Not trying to scare, just being realistic. The 460m is maybe 20% better than my 260m, which requires details toned down with 1680x1050 in Bad Company 2. But who knows, maybe DICE will actually learn from their mistakes and improve and optimize the graphics engine instead of adding more buggy bloat.

    Thats sweet Forerunner.

@wingnut: Im happy with 1050 res. yeah full on HD will be nice, but im more concerned about how the machine generates terrain and builds/compiles a level in UDk and Unity 3. From what I can see courtesy Forerunner and Biffson, it should be more than enough.

@ Biffson....battery times please mate...good deeds are apparently rewarded :p

Drat, If I only had more cash lying around... I could have gone for the GTX 485m...........

But on the other hand, I don't play any games at all..........

Hmm.. why do I even bother for high-end gfx cards....

Didn't have time to do a real battery test (will do one tomorrow and let you know) but just off-hand (and the following may be TOTALLY off but....) from messing around on it I think battery dropped about 30% (80-50%, didn't come fully charged) in about an hour while running windows updates/etc at max brightness.

If this would have optimus, battery would last like 6 hours at least... it would be the best laptop in the world, mobile and all powerful... let's hope the next refresh will get optimus, I mean this thing will be selling like hotcakes, so if money is the problem with implementing optimus, this problem will solve itself soon.

I'm about to purchase my 8150, just choosing a reseller. I see lpc-digital has free shipping (over $1000), but I've never dealt with them. Any suggestions on resellers currently offering free shipping?

I just registered 'cause I am interested in this laptop. I 'm waiting anxious a review.
Please make a good review with:
    • Pictures
    • Temps (really important to me)
    • Consume (W/h)
    • Performance
    • Full HD video decoding

    Thanks.

P.D: My only reseller option is mySN (europe reseller + spanish keyboard) and I'm questioning how different the cooling systems are between resellers...

Exactly. lol. My Q9550 and GTX 260 core 216 are eyeing it with despise. I have been using my laptop for 90% of my gaming anyhow. I may just sell my desktop gaming components and recover some cash. But I hate to think that I can throw an HD 5870 in my desktop and turn it into a gaming powerhouse.

Pooster funny you said beast because when I set up windows thats what I named my computer "Beast". lol. I got mine from lpc-digital. Larry was very helpful and answered a bunch of my pms and emails and they had good status on the forums so I ordered from them. Shipping was very fast and he got the order out to me within 2 days of ordering. It was packaged very nicely when it arrived also. I fully recommend lpc-digital. Larry even called and had a follow up phone-call to make sure everything was as it should be. Thats great customer service.

I'm getting to the review guys. I will work on it today. I don't have a camera though but I will try to get one.

It's 30 to 40 percent, depending on the game.

    460M is 15 to 20% faster than the 285M.

Yeah, I guess it depends on if you're looking at framerates or benchmark scores, and which game. Either way it's definitely a step up, but not sure if it's enough for 1080p for GPU heavy games like BF3. Granted BF3 will probably be one of the more taxing games. But that doesn't mean you can't play at medium details as I do now with BC2.

Can some one verify what touch pad manufacture this lappy uses If its synaptics or alps or Sentelic.

I hope it does not use a Sentelic pad that's the only thing I hate on the W870cu.
If it doesn't I will be joining the club.

You CAN run at native res with the 460m. Most games with high detail, some you might have to sacrifice a little detail. Just the future is unknown. I just want to know I have the best, because I never have. I know it's not the best best, as i7-2920XM and GTX 485m SLI would be best of the best, but it's a step in the right direction for me. :)

Also, Forerunner is looking for a camera to make a full review that will include pics. Pics will be posted soon enough regardless if he finds his cam or not but that video should tide you over more than pics would.

The ATI 6970...how much of a difference will it have on performance and temps?

Also I believe the 6950 will be equivalent to a 460M...will it get more out of the battery life than that?

Off topic, but are there any expert opinions on when SSD drives will be affordable? $3,000+ for a terabyte seems just a tad expensive.

Will they ever reach HDD prices and/or become the norm in notebooks and PCs?
