With my gtx 485m. I got a max temp of 90 degrees first go and a second time I logged it a 89 degrees. When it hit 90 the fans even ramped up a bit higher it seemed and the temp dropped to 87-88 and stayed there.

Go on. Furmark it with extreme burning mode enabled, full-hd ress(full screen) and max msaa for 10 minutes. i'm so close to order, this will make my decision

edit* hehe, seems i got my answer while typing :p
so the max fan speed kicks in @ 90? is it very loud at that point? would like to see some overclocking headroom in this if the fan noise is not too horrible.

Is that with furmark? If that's the case then that's awesome as not many comes come close to stressing the gpu as much as that does. I was expecting furmark to push it to 100 c.

Yes this is with furmark. Actually with your settings uracoin I got lower temperatures. It reached a max of 82 degrees and from the 8 minute to 10 minute mark it literally teetered back and forth from 81 to 82 degrees. Do you think its because I didn't have it full screen the first 2 times?

If you don't have it in full screen I think it stresses the CPU a lot more so that could probably be why.

Have been following this thread since 7 days now...Man there is a lot of excitement building up here for these babies...

Was a button click away from ordering the Dell XPS 15...looked decent and was ready to part with the moolah. But something stayed my hand and I luckily came across this...Heard of Clevo's before but didnt think it was this good.

Anxiously awaiting a review from Forerunner...I'm concerned about the temps and some battery life as well.

Surely you guys know that Sager / Clevo would never release such a beast without adequate cooling and rigorous testing. In the past, they have even refused to officially authorize the QX9300 in a 15'' chassis due to this but even that was proved to be ok.

A 1 minute furmark hitting 70C has little bearing on what the maximum GPU temps would be from standard gaming so I don't understand why any of you were so worried.

If this was another manufacturer such as Asus or HP then I could understand.

seems like there will be quite the headroom for over clocking here. weird that the settings i was asking for gave lower temps tho. maybe the vram eats up so much power that the core throttle? :p

anyway download msi afterburner or something and see what the max fan speed is good for. use furmark to check if the overclock is stable and find a max stable overclock. then its time for some 3dmark vantage record scores on 15" single gpu systems;D

also. is there much space between the gpu heat sink and the back cover? if it is, there might be room for a lot of theese

DealExtreme: $5.06 Pure Copper PC Memory Heat Spreader (8-Pieces)

those lowered the temps of the 5850 in my msi gx640 by aprox 20 degrees on max

Will you be overclocking your video card at all? Of course, I'm not forcing you to as there are risks with OCing, but it would be nice to know how much we can get out of the card.

Oh sorry, guys I was busy with schoolwork. I won't get to a formal write up till late tonight or tomorrow. As per sound when your just browsing and such the comp is dead silent. It begins to make a slight whirring when running multiple aps and browsing. When your full on gaming it gets noticeably louder but coming from an asus c90 it barely compares. I think of it as a blowdryer if it were on a very low setting if you can imagine that. I'm trying to get vantage to work. It keeps saying my key is incorrect.

Pooster sorry. Just shoot me questions and I will answer them right away. And yes I am having toying around with this beast. The screen is simply gorgeous. As for some benchmarks. I am running sc2 at extreme with v-sync enabled and it runs at 59-60 fps. I am playing heroes of newerth with everything maxed and 8 x aa and i believe 32 x af and its at 60 also. I will get more demanding games such as crysis, crysis warhead, and im downloading black ops as we speak.

    Feel free to ask questions.

Viewing angles are great. You can actually tilt the screen back all the way and it is still fully visible. I'd say tilting it forward you can tilt it to about 50-60 degrees before it becomes washed out. On the horizontal side they are also pretty good. I can't measure but it is definitely around 70-75 degrees before the colors become blurred.

    With my 485 and i7 q2630 at stock I scored 14,807 in 3dmark vantage.

    About to overclock soon!!!

After increasingn the core from 575 to 625 and the memory from 1500 to 1550 max temp on furmark was 91 degrees and it mainly stayed at 89-90 again like before. I'm gonna push this baby higher.

Speakers are decent as most laptops. The subwoofer is noticeable as you get a little oomph in the sound. The thx tru sudio pro makes the sound much more like an experience with the enhancements and surround sound effect.

Backlit keyboard would be nice but would probably detract from the simplistic design. As for the keyboard itself this is my first time witha chiclet style keyboard and i find it very nice though it takes some getting used to with the spacing. The keys are tactile and have a nice responsive click that isn't too stiff.

The optica drive is 12.7mm. I am getting to the battery life now.

awesome so im assuming one of these would fit as a ODD caddy?
12.7mm sata caddy items - Get great deals on Computers Networking items on eBay.com!

Clevo are supposedly manufacturing a caddy right now, but its like $40-$50.

ive seen people do DIY backlit keybaords using cellophane. wonder if its possible with this one

one last question. any chance you can figure out what mpcie ports this has? perhaps through everest if u get a chance? im personally thinking of getting a p151hm1 for $1499 460gtx and if it supports it, i can do a vidock on it, saving me $500 but getting even better performance

Hey thanks! That's awesome actually. Hopefully my NP8170 will run even cooler yet. Is this using stock paste or did you get IC Diamond?

What about CPU? Does the GPU drive the temps up or are the pipes independent?

Spend the $40-$50, trust me. I spent over $50 between three caddy's that didn't fit or didn't work because of bad descriptions and/or poor design, and cost as much to return ship as it would to buy another.

Man...after reading his first impression, I cannot wait till AMD's 6000 GPU comes out on sager. I will see the price + performance diff. and buy it asap after release. I cannot spend 1/3-1/4 price on 485 even though it is THE BEST ATM. I am not a pro gamer and I will not be gaming 24/7 on 1080P @ max specs. props to those who can shell out ~500USD just for the GPU upgrade. I would rather buy an iPAD 2 with the money I would save...if I ever were to buy it.

    WOW!

2 hours on full brightness with so much going on...woot! This is much better than I expected. Also I believe that you are on a slightly overclocked 485M.

Does this mean that I can get close to 3 hours with a 460M on medium brightness?

    Because that just sounds unbelievable...

Would there be a difference in power consumption on the NP8130 because of a matte screen display? Or does this kinda thing make no difference?

Most probably. I believe I could squeeze out 3 hours if I just did light browsing and such on medium brightness.

I don't have a camera as of right now (can't find my charger.) There is a link from babyhemi about the laptop on youtube. Let me try to find it.

    Heres the link.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Joj6DPfYTIM

    Yes.

Just pushed the core to 700 and then 675 and it artifacts at both levels. Looks like the core maxes out at 650 which is stable and maybe a bit beyond it. GOing to try to figure out the stable for the memory.

I'd say similar. Maybe a bit less. Larger screen, dual drives (if you're running two), and possibly more power from the cooling fans.

    No difference.
