Remember ' implementing Optimus' is the thing needed for switchable GPU. The cards themselves support Optimus but Optimus is not being implemented on laptops with high end cards for some reason.

Did anyone notice my question about the battery pack (does it cause more weight on one side?)
Anyone know if buying the np8130 will be more futureproofing then buying the g53jw-a1? (same specs except the processor and no option for overclocking, which is something I'm scared of doing) -
G53JW only has an i7-720qm, which is the first gen, whilst the 2630qm is the base config for the 8130.
The 8130 is more futureproof because it has support for the new gen of cpus, and probs ivy bridge, the speculated third gen of i7 procs, will have the same socket as the current sandy bridge cpus. -
Is it possible with a future firmware/bios update there can be optimus on the current 8130, or is it because of the way clevo is making them? The new i7 have Intel® HD Graphics 3000
How is the sound quality on sager systems?
...man im full of questions this week -

On sagernotebook.com,
this model is now stated to be on backorder..
disappointing, i was about to jump on this... -
Glad I ordered Tuesday -
-
All indications point to "end of January". Whatever that means.
I've got nearly $2000 tied up in a pre-order (NP8170). If it delays more than a couple weeks into February I'm going to cancel and wait another couple months to see if AMD offers any spectacular new GPU tech. -
sagernotebook.com says ETA end of Jan 2011
-
Still waiting for mine to say shipped On Day 3 ...

-
Waiting anxiously for your review, burkle25!
-
LOL. I don't even think she committed to a review, but the pressure's on now!
-
Just a quick glance will be enough..
I probably will stick to a P150HM for upgradeability.... I'm undecided yet..
-
-
im on 4 days waiting cant wait to get it
-
CPU-Z, GPU-Z, Cinebench, PCMark, wPrime, HWiNFO, 3D Mark, HD Tune, CrystalDiskMark....
Anything else I can use to test or ones from this I shouldn't use? -
To be honest I'd be more interested in your overall opinion and overview of the hardware. -

looks like its rubberized. what do you guys think? -
-
-
-
What is it hard Plastic?
-
Yeah, I think 8130 = plastic, 8150 = rubberized, 8170 = metal (brushed aluminum?)

Get some good photos of the screen with your 40D. I want to see the vertical viewing angles on it.

Images and German review of the 8150 with anti-glare screen

Its actually pretty bright for a matte screen when you check the review. Of course, all the photos of the screen are shot outdoors in the sunlight which is cool, but it would be nice to see a few indoor shots as well.
-
this is the 8150 i dont think it has a matte screen just anti glare.. although every thing on that review is in German so im not sure i have been trying to translate it with google and so far i been reading it and everything with the 8150 seams good, but the fans are loud under load, this is what a translation came out too... However, the maximum fan speed is stressful. With 51.6 dB (A) of fans acknowledged the concern about the too hot running hardware. During a 3D game or after one hour stress test, the fan rumble but still clearly audible, but with 45.1 dB (A) much more cautious. In office operation, the cooling system makes with 34.6 dB (A) and can be felt in battery mode even up to 31.5 dB reduction (A).
-
Just ordered mine today from Xoticpc. Those guys are so cool. Can't wait for it to arrive.

Anytime I have a green flag about cooling performance and viewing angles I'll pull the trigger and order one from xotic. At first glance it's a killing machine at a more than affordable price. Can't wait for a review! Will be this, the G53JW-A1 or the MSI GX660-060 US. It depends mainly on cooling, a job that G53 and GX660 do admirably.

Hey everyone,
I am truly considering getting this laptop, provided that the 5160 being released isn't considerably better for my needs. The only games I plan on playing on this laptop are SC2 and Diablo 3. Is the 460m an overkill? Maybe, but I don't care at this point. I've been going back and forth between ASUS, HP, Dell, Sony, and now this Sager for the past 4 months and I'm getting tired of this waiting game haha With the specs that I want the price ends up around 1300 anyways, so the better GPU is just a perk
Like most, I've waited for SB in hopes that a quad-core CPU w/ an IGP and a decent GPU that would allow optimus to be enabled, but sadly this isn't the case. Battery life would be a bonus since I will be at college, but 2-3hrs should be enough to get me back to an outlet.
The main reasons I'm strongly considering this laptop is because the 1080p screen is standard, there is a number pad on a 15in screen, the plethora of ports (USB 3.0 mostly), real dedicated left/right buttons on the mouse pad (none of that integrated buttons crap), 2630QM standard, and finally the 460m. Only thing to make this laptop perfect would be a backlit keyboard, but I'm nitpicking to find faults with this laptop
My question is would the laptop run cooler if I set the graphics to medium/high (in SC2 and Diablo 3)? In my mind this theory sounds good, but I'm a novice when it comes to these things. Being my second laptop ever, first one that is actually good, I want this to last a few years. Wouldn't running cooler would help in that regard? Thanks for reading and responding. -
I don't think the 460m is overkill to be honest. SC2 can be quite demanding at higher detail. You should at least be able to run with high detail at 1080p. Who knows for Diablo 3 but I wouldn't expect the specs to be much more demanding than SC2.
-
Agreed. According to NotebookCheck its a pretty good card but by no means is it overkill. It should be able to handle SC2 on top settings but only just barely.

Interesting. Thanks for that link. I've been playing on low on a friends computer so anything is better than that
With regards to the other question, would the laptop run cooler if I just play on medium? I'm sure that the sager can handle the heat, but to be honest for me its more about making the computer last longer rather than extreme gaming performance. Thanks. -
Hey guys anyone know what kind of performance increase I will see from a i7-2630QM to a 2720QM ? Debating if its worth the extra cash.
May instead grab a 80gb or 120gb SSD. Is it even worth getting an SSD for playing battlefield badcompany2 (bf3 when its out), mmo's, and sc2 (d3 too when its released) ? -

Agreed...spend your money on an SSD for the greater performance gain.
-
-
Just to make sure, will the i7-2630QM be good enough for gaming for the next 3years with the games I mentioned on high settings?
Also does anyone know when those new NP51x0 are gona be released? I thought on the 14th -

Too bad its limited to only Dell, HP and Apple. What a joke! In their list of qualified symptoms, mine is on that list: Computer turns on but the monitor doesn't. Well, I hope someone gets a fixed laptop out of this at least. -

Benchmark Results: Power Consumption : Roundup: The Best SSDs For Enthusiasts
With my Intel SSD in my Hannspree netbook I went from 4hrs to over 5 hrs, and from 6.5 hrs to almost 9 hrs on my M11x. Not all SSD's are the same power wise though. Although note that this was with power sipping netbooks. A regular notebook with a dedicated GPU though will consume considerably more power when idle will see little improvement in battery life because the hdd/sdd consumes little power compared to the rest of the system.
SSD's format just like any other drive. Just don't run disk defragmenter is about the only advice I can give for someone new to SSD's. Install Windows 7 fresh on an SSD and it will set it up appropriately. -
first, thanks for the links guys.
second, I have made a configuration for my next laptop.
Sager 8130 w/ 1080P matte display.
Intel 2720QM
Kingston KHX1600C9S3K2/4GX (8GB)
Crucial C400 ~128GB (coming soon)
AMD 6970 ~2GB (coming soon)
Intel 6300N
only 1 problem..I can spend 1500 USD and don't want to wait another year to wait for the price to come down..
therefor, back to square 1...hehe
