Cheers, for the answer, fair point that green should mean that nvidia is active. Oh well, that can be easily got used to or ignored.

Anyone has opinion on the keyboard? I seen some good quality pictures and in terms of size, key height and key spacing it looks very good.
But pictures won't tell much about the flex of the keyboard, smoothness of key presses etc.

I'm sorry if that sounds to picky, but I type thousands of words/commands every day and as such it is very important for me.

I discovered what a keyboard is for one person is different to another. Worse, for me i critcised the keyboard of my w370st as bad, after getting used to it i don't tink it is bad. It is not a great keyboard but it is okay.

Thank you. Well I decided to go with the backlit version in w355st. Come to think of it if I was to have a long writing period I would be sat at my desk and could plug in a usb/bluetooth keyboard.
Unfortunately I can't place the order until monday as I requested few extra changes and they have to be ordered by directly, one of which is fast tracking my order so it's gonna be here in a week or less, can't wait!

I knew there were few reviews of the w350 and w370 models, but most of them were just rehashing of what's on the interior and exterior of the laptop and benchmarks, so it's good to finally talk to real users. I hope to record an unboxing as soon as I get my hands on it, and maybe even a review after first few weeks of use, do you think it's a good idea?

Thank you once again to everyone who answered me directly or posted in this thread earlier as I had a lot more questions before reading those 30 pages. :)

Yup, the i5 change came before the switch to the 7355 model and had a price drop associated with the less expensive CPU being the new default option. The 7355 came about due to them now having it come with a backlit keyboard where the 7352 did not.

Yes so the change just offered people more choice, shame intel did not increase the price gap by a bit but that's intel for you.

Thank you for the reply from XoticPC. Good to know that it has a backlit keyboard, and you can always choose to upgrade it to i7 for $75.

That is correct 15.6" now come with a backlit keyboard, the 17.3" dont.

I havent seen a difference in the screen qualities between the two, but the 15.6" has the 95% NTSC color gamut upgrade option which is one of the best screens available.

The biggest difference you'll see if you will have more room if you like to use programs in windowed mode instead of full screen.

If based off prevoius model models of the same line you wont see any upgrades to the GPU unless there is as replacement to the 765M, like possibly a 765MX or something. The GTX 770M and higher are 75W TDP cards and your current one is a 60-65W TDP. The motherboard or components probably arent designed for those higher power draw cards.

i got another question, the fan sound really got a problem or these are user related issues ?
there is a topic about loud fan and that stuff it would need an upgrade of the bios+ec to get a better fan management ?

I've been a lurker for quite some time now, but never really posted.

Last night I received the Clevo laptop I ordered from a certain reseller here in Japan. When I ordered it, it looked exactly like the w370st, except that it had gtx760m as the graphics card. I pulled the trigger after some weeks of arguing with the self, as a discount opportunity showed itself up. Got the most basic specs on it (win 8.1 [couldn't order it without OS], 4700mq, 8GB ram, 500GB HDD, DVD, basic thermal grease etc) for around $880 shipped. When it arrived, to my surprise, the model listed at the back of unit says W370SK. Looked for it in the Clevo website, and contrary to my previous search, it indeed is listed there with all the correct specs.

Moving on, I just want to ask if there are ways to overclock the graphics card past the 135MHz core limit OC that's allowed in Afterburner and nvidiaInspector? It seems that the 760m and the 765m are the same chips, with just different frequencies, and I'd like to reach 765m potential performance territory, if possible. Any of you guys tried Svet's vBIOS tuner (and is it free)? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

    Hi,

I am looking for some info.

    I have just bought OcUK Express W350STQ Gamer 15.6" LED Full HD Intel i5-4200M Haswell, 4GB 1600MHz DDR3, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, NVIDIA GTX 765M 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - Windows 8 Gaming Laptop [OcUK_Express_W350STQ_Laptop].

I want to know, can I have two 2.5" HDD's and an mSATA SSD config in this laptop? Also, is it straightforwards to swap out the i5 for an i7 when I get the chance?

    Thanks

Also, speccy recognises 4 DIMMS, however I can only find 3. Which is correct?

    Cheers,

    MiSJAH

You can run 2x2.5" and an mSATA no problem.

It only has 3 memory slots for a max of 24GB.

The machine supports any 47W quad natively so only the 4930MX would be questionable, all the others are fine and the 4800MQ is a good choice, though the 4700MQ overclocked and undervolted may be the best bet for a tweaker.

    OK, more questions.

1, My iPhone won't connect via USB cable. It continuously connects then disconnects. Is there a known fix for this?

    2. Flashing the bios from a USB. How is this done? I have some experience with booting O/S's from USB's using unetbootin. Can anyone point me in the direction of a straightforward tutorial?

    Thanks for the answers.

    Hi everyone,

I got my Clevo W370ST since about a month now, and as most I also have issues with the fan.

I will update the EC and BIOS tonight to see if this fixes the 100% burst but I'm also having another much more obscure issue and I was wondering if someone else has come across this as well.
When I put the laptop to sleep, the fans keep kicking in from time to time while the laptop is sleeping!!
This not only drains the battery quite fast but it also means I can't keep it in a closed case because it overheats!!
I'm pretty sure that when in sleep mode, fans should not activate, so what could this be attributed to?

I will be very happy to get some ideas from anyone who has had this happen.

    Hi,
I just ordered my Clevo W350ST from eurocom. It comes with 1Tb 7200rpm HDD without an OS. Today when i saw an amazon deal for $75 for an intel 530 120gb SSD, i purchased one. Do you think i could swap the HDD with this SSD and instal my OS without much hassle?

Should be no problem at all. You wont even need to swap anything, just put the SSD into the second hard drive bay and keep the HDD in there.

Has anyone noticed that the heatsink for the GPU memory modules is kinda weird? AFAIK, it's just a strip of sheet metal placed above them, with the only connection to the heatpipes is through a single point -- one of the GPU heatsink mounting screws. Should I be worried about the memory modules longevity (especially when overclocking them) since it doesn't look like heat is dissipated properly? Were the previous-gen Clevo's (W350ET and W370ET) constructed the same?

I'm still waiting for my clevo to arrive (hopefully I will be able to play with it this weekend), but I can tell you one thing; you should not overclock anything in a laptop. It does not have the best air flow, the heat sinks all lead heat from one part to another... Use a temperature monitoring software, most components should never go above 100°C, the lower the longer is going to be the life of your laptop. If you want it to serve you for years keep it stock. If you want best performance and upgrade every few months, you may feel a little more risky.

If you really want to squeeze every bit of power from it and keep it cool, invest in better cooling paste, external fans, use only in a room with low temperature and good ventilation (i.e. don't put it against a wall or other heat generating devices).

I, too, used to believe that laptops should not be overclocked. But hey, I did it to my previous laptop and it lasted me 3 years and is still going strong (it's now with a friend). Granted, the specs weren't high-end to be causing a lot of heat, but the cooling solution wasn't grand, either. With proper care and maintenance, I was able to pull it off: CPU maxed out at 75 deg C and GPU at 65.

As for my current laptop, I've been using it with the graphics cores OC'd as far as the nvidiaInspector sliders can go and I don't go beyond 55 degrees Celsius in any gaming I have done (Prolimatech PK-1 thermal compound, around 20 degrees ambient temps). I was just curious about the memory modules, and because there are no temp sensors built-in them, I can't really monitor the temps. And again, the heatsink for these memory modules look flimsy to me, in a thermal performance standpoint. These are the reasons I am not overclocking the memory (yet).

Hello all, I am new to this thread and have gotten through 28 of the pages, and still chugging along. I wanted to ask a quick question though. I am interested in the Clevo 350ST, which you can find on Xotic as the Sager NP7355. The price is right at $989 for how I have it customized.

On the other hand though (and how I found out about the 350ST), Eurocom is selling the same laptop under the name Shark 2.0. I understand this is the older version of the 350ST(NP7352) but the only difference I have seen is the backlight to the keyboard. To me that isn't a deal breaker, especially since I can get the same specced laptop for only $756. This is even before the $100 discount they are giving for black Friday bringing the price down to $656.

Alright there is my rant, now for my question. Why are the prices between the two laptops so different. I feel like I am missing something big and just not seeing it, so I am leaving this here hoping somebody might be able to spot something I haven't been able to spot.

Links to the two pages followed:

    XOTIC PC | Sager NP7355 (Clevo W350ST)

    Thanks everybody

About the soundcard, is it really that bad? And if so, is there any possible fix? Changing the sound card for example, or is that just a ludicrous idea in the notebook world?

You cant change the internal sound card as its built onto the motherboard. You can get a USB sound card for better quality audio.

To what I see, I noticed that the differences between the two is the backlight keyboard and the default processor. The w355st is cheaper compared to the old w350st from what I recalled but the default processor is only i5. You can upgrade it too to i7 in just $75. Comparing the two, it seems that the difference is just around $25 for the backlight keyboard..

    Hi all,

First time Sager/Clevo buyer, so your help appreciated!

I just placed an order for Sager NP7370 (Clevo W370ST) from XoticPC with an Intel 520 series mSATA as primary. However after some reading online I'm not sure if it's SATA III. I know I can get a regular 2.5" SSD and it's SATA III. So:

    1. Can someone confirm of mSATA is SATA II or SATA III?
    2. Even if mSATA is SATA II, would it matter with the read/write speeds of the mSATA or SATA (540 MB/s / 490 MB/s)?

Much thanks for replies in advance!

The Intel 520 series will be a SATA drive, not an mSATA. Were you referring to the Intel 525 drive?

Also the mSATA as well as SATA ports in these machines are both 6 gb/s, so either way you don't have anything to worry about.

Yes, thanks for catching that Derek, it's actually "240GB Intel 530 Series mSATA SSD - Preconfigured as an OS Drive ( Operating System – Drive C: )"

So if mSATA is 6 Gb/s, I think I'm good. Thanks for the quick reply!

My Eurocom shark 2.0 came with one dead pixel. I researched around and trying to fix that by using UDPixel.
    What are my other options?

I received my XMG A503 (based on clevo w355st) few days ago and I still have two questions. Does anyone know if it is possible to use the touchpad for scrolling under Windows 8? I don't see any option to enable it in the mouse settings under control panel.

Does the dedicated airplane mode button or the Fn+F11 combination work on Windows 8 for anyone? It's a bit strange that with this version of windows being so mobile-orinted won't have this out of the box.

P.s. Laptop was ordered without the os, I actually prefer Win8 to previous generations so that's what I installed and wouldn't want to go back to 7 or XP.

Not sure if I'll be of much help since I have a different model (W370SK -- a W370ST but with a different graphics processor), but I ordered mine with Windows 8.1 and it came out of the box with no problems. Windows 8.1 touchpad gestures work, and the airplane mode button works to turn Wi-Fi on/off (sorry, I haven't found the need to use the Fn+F11 because of that). Have you tried using the drivers available from the reseller's website?

And I, too, am beginning to like Windows 8.1.

Thanks, I feel silly now for not searching on mysn website earlier :p
The hotkeys now work and the touch pad is just amazing! Out of curiosity are there any other gesture than scrolling, zoom, rotate and two finger tap = right click?

There's the shortcut to switch between active apps: slide your finger quickly from the left edge of the touchpad. Sliding from the righ edge brings out the charms. I think that's all.
