Found on nagging issue that the PCH chip is below the 2nd HDD bay and it runs hot!

As in motherboard temps are reporting 42c on idle and up to 65c on load on a fanless stand elevated.

This cause the samsung evo pro ssd to hit temps of around 65c

I bought some cheap thermal pads from ebay not copper the grey plasticy stuff as i didnt want more heat spreading faster to the drive.

Chipset now runs at around 58c and 60c on spikes.

SSD runs at around 54c tops and is slower to warm up.

Cant wait for winter to hit lol and to get a new stand with working fans

I think this is the right place to be... I got my Sager a year ago September, and I haven't used the webcam too much. Now, I just tried to open skype and it said that it couldn't detect a camera. When I tried to open the Windows 8 camera app, that didn't detect a camera either... Any idea how to fix this???

Well then, nevermind! It seems that FN+F10 can cause the camera to turn off and the laptop owner to totally freak out! A simply FN+F10 turned it back on, and fixed it all.

The light on my Sager to show which graphics card I am using seems to not be working. No matter what, it shows that I am using the high performance graphics (orange) even in windows 8 browsing the web or using microsoft word as opposed to showing I am using the intel HD 4600 graphics (by lighting up the green light instead).

Anyone had this issue and knows how to fix it?

I'm using the latest drivers of both cards (nvidia and intel).

Something may be activating your gpu. Set the drivers to igp only (forced) and restart. See if that helps. If it does turn on the gpu usage indicator in the driver control panel, this will indicate what may be using it.

Thank you. It seemed that Adobe Bridge was using the Nvidia graphics. I can only imagine how much battery life I was losing because of that.

I've forced it to use the integrated graphics now.

Usually it is something using the GPU rather than the light breaking, glad you figured out the culprit.

As for the power, a lot extra for idle.

And again with another issue I hope can be solved.

Sometimes when I'm coming out of hibernate, my usb 2.0 port does not work (that's the single usb on the left), the usb 3.0s and the esata work fine.

When I restart the system, it functions properly again.

Anyone else gets this issue and knows what I can do to solve it?

    Thanks.

I assume so. Is there an issue with them?

Where could I get drivers that would not cause this?

You can get the latest chipset drivers from intel, worth installing a set to make sure none of the generic devices are not installed properly.

Installed them and tried a sleep and a hibernate. The USB 2.0 seems to still be functioning. For the moment, its solved.

Thanks again Meaker. Good to know we have such quality support even on a discontinued product. :)

Avast has just detected HkeyTray.exe as a suspicious item and quarantined it since a virus database update on Friday.

Anybody else have the same issue?

    First post here.

I'm looking at picking up a Clevo W355SSQ, because the motherboard on my last laptop (a Clevo W150) fried. I'm confident I can transfer the processor, hard drive, and RAM, but from the pictures and online manual it doesn't appear the wifi card slot is easily accessible on the SSQ. Is there any way to get at it, or should I just pay to have it preinstalled?

If you look at the service manual page 2 - 14 (removal of keyboard) you can see the steps to get to the wireless.

You have to unclip the strip above the keyboard and then remove the keyboard. It's fairly straightforward but if you don't want to do it yourself then there is no harm in ordering the wireless pre-installed.

Thank you. You made me realize I was looking at some generic manual. I went and found the right one, which is incredibly helpful.

Which processor do you plan on transferring? The W150 used the third gen core i and the W355SSQ uses the 4th gen, they're not inter-changable.

No problem, though as mentioned the CPU wont be interchangable from a 3rd gen to a 4th gen platform.

    Hi guys,

My brother's W350ST seems to have a big problem where it won't boot up at all. The laptop will turn on, followed by a loud fan noise and then turns itself off again before the BIOS or any other features can be accessed.

Anyone seen this before or have any ideas? Dead MOBO maybe?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Mark

What should be normal/good temperatures CPU + GPU when gaming on W355SS?

I did some benchmarks and GPU got to 73CMax during FurMark.
For CPU I need to perform more (with Prima95 I guess) but I think I saw a max of 100º on HWMonitor CPUID. (is this the best tool to measure CPU temps?)

EDIT: GTX-860M (clocked from reseller to 1202Mhz) + i7-4710MQ with Prema Bios.

That's normal for furmark (pretty good for gpu) and prime.

Thanks. I will check with Prime (since I haven't yet) and with some real Gaming.

I am more concerned about CPU temp for now though. What would be a decent CPU temp for gaming during a couple of hours?

Anything so long as it does not throttle for the most part. But you could add the 200Mhz and undervolt it if you want a little extra and cooler.

Wouldn't the high temps reduce life expectancy?
How can we detect throttling? With Intel XTU and GPU-Z?

I have been reading this forums for a few days now and read various people taking about undervolting. Is there any kind of guide how to do it and advantages and disadvantages?

Sorry for all the questions. I am kinda new on this Overclocking, Temperature, Bios, Voltage, etc subjects..

The chip will manage itself, yes it would but it's a small machine it will always run warm which is why I suggested what I did. Prime is a worst case after all.

Undervolting reduces power consumption, to low and your system becomes unstable but otherwise you get identical performance for lower power, it's a total win.

The only tricky part is that every chip is different even of the same model and even from the same wafer. You have to stability test each setting yourself.

Does anyone here use this laptop with an external screen and with the lid of the laptop fully closed?

I know its different with some laptops (my last asus would shut down during gaming if I were to do that), but has anyone been doing that with this laptop and has your experience been perfectly fine?

I figure I'd ask before I considered doing it in practice.

It will make the laptop warmer if you shut of the screen, if doing heavy gaming, try just disabling the display rather than closing the screen, once set it should auto switch back as you plug in and remove your external monitor.

My W350ST is being obnoxiously loud under a fairly light load (Watching Netflix only). It will be quiet, then really loud, then quiet, then like an airplane jet. How do I fix this? It seems like it is just not cooling it until it gets too hot and then it tries really hard to cool it. I have not overclocked it or anything and I have had it for over a year. It has sort of been like this the whole time, but I am just getting too fed up with it now.

Try PREMAMOD v2. I found that since I've upgraded the laptop to that firmware I'm not getting any loud fan issues.

Google it and follow the instructions. It is relatively easy to upgrade.

Check the heatsink is clean and if cleaning it does not help, re-apply some high quality thermal compound like IC diamond.

What I've found to work is using the Control Center application (It's called hotkey) and setting the profile to entertainment or quiet, it seems to control the fans pretty well with this mod.

Speaking of which, I wanted to know if anyone had an easy way to change the profiles automatically. Right now the only power options I have on my energy profile are the basic (balanced, high performance and power saver) and they don't have the entertainment, quiet, etc. modes of the control panel. Does anyone know how to make these modes automatically kick in say, if I run a video game or another program and go back to normal if I am just watching a movie or browsing the web?

It's usually best to start off contacting your reseller if possible. They're the easiest to work through. Buying a panel online can be tricky as the exact display connection you need isn't always guaranteed. You can remove the panel you have now though and see the model number for it and start there if you want to go at it solo.

The laptop is still usable. Only about 1/10 of the screen is not functional right now. I did get a quote from my reseller and they told me it would be $465 total. Is that worth it...? Seems like a lot of replacing the screen

The motherboard on my NP7352 died, out of warranty for parts, and I'm trying to figure out if there are any alternatives to paying $550 + shipping to replace it... Is there any market for damaged NP7352s, or used parts? I've already checked the marketplace forums here, without any luck. It seems like someone's gotta be selling one somewhere, but I haven't been able to find anything.
    Thanks for reading.

The temperature becomes totally uncontrollable today. Running simple operations on 4 cores (4700MQ) caused it to slowly heat from 60C to over 90C within a hour, despite the fan is running at 100%, nearly 5000RPM. It was fine last year :( Probably dust or something.

Would it help if I turn the laptop upside down and open the bottom cover after cleansing? never use the monitor or KB anyway, it's my mobile server.

Haaaalp! Hello guys, I own Clevo W350ST/ Sager NP7370 analogue laptop from original manufacturer called Hasee K650-i7D3. I need to repair a chip on motherboard, however seems like previous repair wiped out marking on the chip itself, and now I do not know the part number. Could anybody please take a photo or write down the marking from own laptop, you can check it beneath the bottom cover of laptop on right hand side where additional hard drive bay is located. Little guy on the right side from ram. (Looks like CPU) Thank you in advance. [IMG]
