It's just down to the system design and motherboard routing.

I think it was the layout of the chips on the motherboard, because when you take the back cover off both of the chips are in the center and on the left, along with the extra HDD slot, therefore making it easier to place the IO on the right and the CD drive below both chips.

Yep, though which came first can be hard to say, is like that so they moved the odd or did they do that because they decided to move the odd.

Anyone have any idea what is the make of the touchpad and if it has any special features like two finger scrolling etc.?

I see we can disable and reenable it via the keyboard (fn + f1) but are there any other features for it?

Thanks man. I don't think the synaptics software was installed from my resellers so I wasn't sure what kind of touchpad it was.

Downloading those drivers now. I almost thought this laptop had a generic touchpad, glad to know I may actually have my multi touch or at least side scrolling back again. *phew*

    Hey guys,

Which one of these programs have you found enhances the quality of the laptop sound,

    Sound blaster Cinema
    THX TruStudio Pro

I don't need the laptop speakers often, just when I go to presentations, it needs to be loud enough to clear music and clear enough to hear speech.

Otherwise, this laptop is working like a gem on Windows 8.1 thus far.

These have been removed as options for Sager resellers for a few weeks now, currently not available.Definitely was a sad day to see it go.

With your number of posts you should know better than to ask about refreshes ;)

No reasoning has been given thus far, but it was pretty popular so I wouldn't be surprised to see it make a comeback.

Thanks for this tip. I installed this too and it's amazingly different. I can actually hear things out of the speakers now. Whichever I had before, I could barely hear even with the volume maxed.

I just ordered mine, now with the 860M GPU instead of the 765M GPU. Any thoughts on this change? Is this a significant improvement in the graphics card?

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a Sager NP7358 (Clevo W350SS) when it becomes available next week.

My only concern is that fan noise problems that I'm hearing about. Particularly how the fan goes full blast, then goes quiet, then goes full blast again when doing basic tasks like opening a webpage. Has this issue been fixed with a BIOS or EC update?

As of yet there have been no reports of that since this is a new model. This was addressed as a BIOS fix by Prema so it's possible Sager did the same in this model and coming as the stock BIOS. Once people get them in hand they'll be able to confirm.

Thanks much. Anyone have any clue whether the 860M in the 7378 will be the Kepler or the Maxwell variety? Not that it should make much difference in performance, but Anandtech says the Maxwell version will consume less power, which could be good for battery life and heat generation (I assume).

This is a bizarre improvement in sound but i have installed the K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1010_Mega with all default settings and the dialog sound in movies improved a lot. I usually frown upon codec packs but at job i work it was necessary this for encoding and tested okay for that propose in all work computers, so i installed in my laptop.

How does one use this Prema Bios update? I see when opening the rar file in 7zip its asking for a password.

Anyone have any instructions on how this is used and how it helps our systems? (Got the Sager 7355 here)

Bought my first "gaming" laptop yesterday, I pre ordered a 7358 from Xotic, my first official "computer upgrade" since freakin' 2009! I kind of feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. (However my fiance is going to hate me, but since we are spending more and more time in doors what better way to celebrate matrimony then with video games?!?!) I DEMAND TO KNOW HOW LONG IT IS GOING TO TAKE TO PUT IN MY SSD AND SHIP MY 7358 TO MY DOOR!!! ;)

I'm thinking of buying one of these 7358s (or another sager) in the very near future and I have around $1500-1600 to spend! Anyone got a good spec config you'd suggest for that price and where to buy it from? Thx!

I'd suggest msata so you have the most options in the future.

If pure ssd is within budget and gives you the capacity you need then go for it. Go for a single larger drive over two smaller ones.

Hey guys, I'm gonna be getting an NP7358 soon, but I just have a question about the hard drive options.

It seems like the NP7358 has 2 hdd slots. Does this mean I could put an SATA III ssd into one of the slots for the OS and use the 750gb hdd (that comes with it) in the other slot for storage?

If this is the case, then I shouldn't bother with an MSATA drive, correct?

If you use an msata it means you can use two standard hdds for more storage later.

An mSATA SSD is also lighter than a standard 2.5" SSD, though I imagine it's not a huge difference in the overall weight.

Considering the pricing is about the same, I would only go with a 2.5" SSD if you a) already have one to install or b) don't want a HDD at all.

Hey Meaker, from what I'm reading MSATA is only SATA II whereas you can buy an SSD with SATA III. Is there a large amount of speed difference between the two?

Also, I'm not a guy who needs huge amounts of hard drive space. My current laptop has a 500 gb hdd that's that's filled to about 380gb with everything I have.

Hey raptir, good idea about the weight, I hadn't considered that.

The new NP7358 seems to have 1 MSATA slot and 2 2.5" HDD slots. So in theory I could have 1 2.5" ssd for the OS and 1 2.5" hdd for storage.

One thing I've noticed about the mSATA though is that some programs do not read it as a hard drive or storage space. For example, I was trying to make an image of my drive in Macrium Reflect and the mSATA with the OS was nowhere to be found.

Unless this is some anti theft protective measure, but alas, I haven't backup up my current config yet. Talk about living dangerously. :p

That'd be more a problem with the program used rather than mSATA itself in my opinion. There should be no issue reading them.

I've been following this thread for a while and have some concerns, questions, and comments.

First the question. Is the ODD port SATA II or SATA III? I've read that the HM87 Chipset supports upt to 4 SATA III ports and 6 SATA II ports.

My concerns for this particular model is the Fan control situation, heat, and throttling. Thre are a number of posts that discuss how the Fan seems to go full bore for no reason even just using the iGPU doing light web surfing. Also, is there serious throttling of the CPU such as the 4810 when this is stressed?

I'm really looking for just a developer workstation where I can do design work and programming work. This model seems to have the best expansion for both Memory, Storage and RAID support and be more affordable than the Clevo P15x Series.

    My 2 cents

My NP7378 is on its way! I did not correct the default 8GB DDR3 1600MHz [1x8GB] Dual Channel Memory when I originally ordered it to 8GB DDR3 1600MHz [2x4GB] Dual Channel Memory until it was too late. So I have 8GB of dual channel RAM, but I only have one memory module, meaning I am not taking advantage of dual channel, which requires 2 memory modules. So now I am face with the question of whether to go ahead and order a second memory module of 8GB (for $90) to bring my RAM up to 16GB and to take advantage of dual channel. My crude understanding is that the RAM bottlenecks the CPU and that using the RAM in dual channel mode will double its transfer rate. The question is whether it would make a noticeable difference in the performance of the laptop to double the transfer rate of the RAM? Or should I just live with the fact that I have dual channel RAM operating in single channel mode? What would you do? Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
