Why aren't people more excited about this machine? For me it's got the perfect combination of power, price and portability. Luckily I don't game that much (have a PS3 for that), so this machine is pretty much all about future-proofing.

Damn, you beat me to it Sean, lol

Well, I got one question for the well knowing Sager and Clevo folks... That's my first contact with such machines and actually haven't heard of them before (they're not that common around here).
Some resellers offer the option of using IC Diamond 7 Thermal thermal compounds on their build. I looked around and it seems that it really is better for the cooling system.
But... Do you really think that it would be important for this model, using a 2720QM processor? It is not one of the hottest, right?
Actually, I have two different resellers options: one offers the 2630QM with IC Diamond 7 Thermal and the other offers the 2720QM without mentioning the thermal compound. The second also has better overall specs, but even then I wouldn't like to have a much hotter notebook.
Although I don't know which therm compound the second option uses, their products have a good fame among the customers I've reached.
Should I worry about this and have the first option? -
I guess intel needs to update their stuff! Is that with the IGP enabled?
Edit: nevermind, I checked the link and it won't work for the 81x0 models. I guess HDMI will have to do. -

Secondly, it depends on what you use your machine for. If you do light work, it would not matter. But if you game intensively or video edit or stuff like that...it would be a good investment.
Personally, even though I won't game all that much (or even at all), I will be buying the cooling compound and be pairing the machine with a good notebook cooler.
Because for me, this machine is all about longetivity, future-proofing and possible resale value. As a result, I take very good care of my laptops.
The laptop in my sig is still working fine 3 years after I have bought it; I have been quite careful with it. If you take care of it, it will take care of you.
Mr. Mysterious -
Mr Mysterious, thanks for the tips.
I too want to take good care of my new notebook and keep it by my side for years.
I do use my actual notebook intensively on work and leisure, but this with sandy bridge should handle most things I do much easily. I do not play games very often, but I would like to enjoy its capabilities from time to time and maybe after a while I'll let that aside.
My problem is that, If I choose to have IC Diamond thermal compound, I'll have to give up a better overall configuration...
Given that the sandy bridges are a little cooler than the last generation, I'm falling for the better configuration... but still would like some thought on it, as I don't know those Clevo machines and neither have experience with i7s... -
-
All our machines come with IC7 on them, for no additional charge, so you don't have to sacrifice config for some IC Diamond =)
-
Believe, I would like to get one of yours Matte screens. But around here we don't have much options.
But simplifying the question: would you say that IC7 is a critical point to choose a Clevo W150HNQ notebook with the 2720QM? -
We've had someone from down there just fly up here and pick it up, it was cheaper and they wouldn't have to "help" it though customs, we're 20 min from Detroit Metro so it was no biggie lol.
But in all seriousness, None of the Sandy Bridge procs run THAT hot in a laptop for it to be required, however, as we know heat is the #1 killer of laptops. So we always recommend using or at least something better than stock, for the simple reason of cooler stuff means it'll last that much longer. -
Bah, when I see Mythlogic posting in this thread I keep hoping its to say "we got some 5160s in the shop now, time to configure, test and ship em out!"

Got a question for the resellers:
If I had a Momentus XT 500 and shipped it to you guys, what would be my options in terms of the pricing in order to have it installed into my 5160? (Yes, I've decided to buy this beauty, but not until I have saved up the funds)
I think it would be fair to offer me a slightly lower price than a fully configured machine with a 320GB HDD in there, since I'm saving you a HDD in the first place and only inputting a much better hybrid HDD in there. What do you think?

Yeah that's fine mythlogic....you didn't answer my other question, which was how would the price change? You wouldn't charge for the service (and thank you for that) but would you be able to lower the price since I'm saving you an HDD?
Oh and don't worry about the warranty...the Momentus XT is barely a week old, never opened, still in it's original packaging and a completely blank and bare drive. It should be fine.

Just got my shipping notification from Power Notebooks; it'll go out either today or tomorrow! YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
-
Congrats!! Can you tell us when you ordered? We are eager to get ours too!
-
Yeah, I ordered it January 18th. It's been a long wait, but I was probably pretty near the front of the queue. No tracking number e-mailed to me this morning, so it should be shipping out tonight.

Shipments have finally started. Many of you should have tracking #'s in your inbox this AM.
-
Heh heh, just got my tracking number, it's scheduled to arrive on Pi Day! What a great Pi Day present ^_^
-
Right on, good to see these are already starting to move.
-
Ordered my NP5160 directly from Sager. Today got a call stating that they have systems in and will ship mine next week!
FYI I ordered on 1/27. -
Looks like us February people won't get theirs shipped until the end of next week if everything goes well. That's a bummer because it will be after my college break.
-
Its better than what Sager originally predicted. March would have trickle shipments and shipments would stabilize after march, sometime in april.
-
Can't wait for the reviews...
-
Btw, this notebook supports dual-channelling on a 2+4 GB RAM configuration? -
Anyone heard anything from Mythlogic about ship dates yet?
-
Be forewarned however, I have heard from super secret spies that the mythlogic guys like to build au natural so to speak, so these pictures are only meant for a mature audience

Lol. I probably won't get mine till April...ordered march
-
Mine's estimated date is April 18th. I guess Brazillian resellers are left to lower priority hhehehe
As I said some pages back, i still have two options to get, from two different resellers. I got them for about the same price (actually the second is 2% cheaper )
1. 2630QM, 4GB RAM, IC Diamond Thermal Paste and 2 years warranty
2. 2720QM, 6GB RAM, "surprise" thermal compound and 3 years warranty
On the other specs, both options are the same: Full HD screen, 500GB 7200 RPM HD, blue-ray reader, lame 42.84 Wh battery.
I'm falling for the number two. Despite the surprise element, they have a good fame among clients (most are more game enthusiasts than I) and a very nice warranty. Also, I suppose I will not stress the CPU and GPU that much on my regular basis...
What do you think? -
Wow definitely get the second option for 2% less unless the company is fishy.
-
-
Thanks, mrPico.
These company has a good reputation. I've been looking for references and almost everyone is pretty satisfied with their products/services. -
Regards -
Anyone get an ETA for Xoticpc.com?
-
Since NewEgg hasn't restocked the refurbished G73 in a while (and it doesn't have a 1080p screen), I'm considering this.
I've been seriously thinking about buying the HP ENVY 17 (Radeon HD 5850), but the problem I find with that is that the estimated shipping date is the very end of this month. So, I see this NP5160 but the date isn't known.
If I ordered this, do you guys think it would arrive sooner than the HP? I'm just tired of trying to find a laptop for under $1100 that will play anything at a good framerate. -

Lol great news! But now I'm anxious :O
-
Kind of late but I just pre-ordered mine today... hopefully I won't get it in June or something
