And Sony and Toshiba and many HPs besides the 8740W have backlit keyboard options too. Clevo's just slow to the bandwagon I guess.

We list the display as a LED. You might want to double check with AVA that the machine has a HDMI input. I have a feeling they might have mistakenly listed this specification.

Do you see 3 laptops in my sig?
They All have backlit keyboards! Even the 7 year old IBM ThinkPad R40 has a ThinkLight that is just as great if not better (I can even read books with it in total darkness :) )

If you look at the photos under the lid with the hard drives out it looks like there is plenty of room, but I have been asking that question too? Eurocom advertise 4x1TB so probably yes.

Hemi, any news on the SLI 460 (or possibly the 470?)? I know other sites are offering them (origin), but is that something that doesn't have an actual release date yet?

It is a measure of brightness, used to quantify screen brightness

As Scook said, it's the brightness level (cd/m^2).
For example the RGB LED screen found in Dell Precision M6500 and M17X is about 300nits +. Even most CCFL screens (like the one in Scook's R1) are 200nits+.
Less than 200 is considered pretty low for a glossy screen.
I wonder if Clevo did it deliberately to reserve some juice for the CPU/GPU?

Oh I was getting worried as google returned....

"When lice start living in hair, they lay eggs, called nits. Nits hatch after around eight days and new live lice come out".

No!! My monitor has got nits!!! 140 of them!!

    It switched off under load?

Why don't they just beef up the power supply to 400w, then they will have the juice to run 2x 100w 480m, 1x 130w CPU and leave plenty of power to run a back lit keyboard, a monitor with 300-500nits, blue Ray, 3x HDD, and all the ports etc...

Of course the laptop will be portable but the power supply will be the size of a small car. The x7200 owners lounge talk will remain the same as other sites... "You on air or water?" "Nope! I'm on liquid nitrogen!" and only we will know they are talking about cooling the power supply.

ROFL... You have a point about the power supply. It is anyways already huge, so some extra 100W probably won´t be noticeable in the size. Since X7200 is apparently aimed at OCers as well, it is reasonable to include a power supply that could take some extra uhm... damage (?) Someone should really stress the X7200 with wPrime + FurMark + all ports occupied + some OC (if the machine is still holding up).

Only if they´ve gone to school (and even then it´s not 100% certain) :p But seriously, you don´t need that much brightness for a screen that you are looking at from say 50 cm. It´s really bad for your eyes. So, in a way, the 140nit screen protects the user from himself.

Actually if the brightness is too low on a screen it can cause strain.

True. And probably 140nit is within that range for many. The ThinkPad in my signature has supposedly about 195 nits and lowering the brightness only 2 levels already starts causing eyestrain to me in a normally lit room. In fact, these 195nits appear unsufficiant in some cases depending on the ambient light (not necessarily outdoors). Not to mention that for even bigger screen like the 17'' such a low brightness would be unacceptable.

The report said the average was 153nits on high was 164nits, it also mentioned this can change from machine to machine as they tested the same panel at 184nits in a different config.

Sager offers i believe a 30 day guarantee so i would say to play it safely somewhere in the first couple weeks and by then you will now whether your happy or not anyhow.. You will lose all shipping costs to you and going back as thats part of the return process ..

/agreed Speedy, to much speculation going on for something that no one even has yet or atleast no one we know that cares to run some serious tests or comment about any issues etc...

Seriously though, I think that the system is pretty dammmn good!
I like the way Notebookcheck tests the workmanship, keyboard quality and performance. Those are very good according to the review. The screen is of great contrast, blacks, viewing angles and if not for the reduced brightness - would score above 90% for sure.
Battery life and weight are irrelevant for this system.
Their temperature score is irrelevant too, as the 43C on the surface is not as important as the below 80C inner temps (CPU/GPU) under full load.
Fans are loud but again, given the internals - who cares?

I'd give the system a solid 90% overall.
One thing needs attention - power issues. If it's addressed and fixed - I'd say - 93-95% is the mark. You can also replace the panel with a better quality one (higher brightness).

I share your view on things as this machine is most likely to be my next laptop (though definitely not with the overpriced GTX480M, not even in a single card configuration). I don´t care about backlit keyboard, I am not even sure, why this is such a big problem for some, but I very much care about the screen. And then come any power issues, which I don´t really feel very much concerned about, because, as already stated, I won´t be running the GTX480M. I hope we will soon know more :)
