Space is space. As long as you have enough space don't worry about it. Typically you would put all of your applications and OS on the fastest drive but if they are the same model, it does not matter.

What about all the other garbage that clogs up your taskbar, it all uses system resources, camera stuff, spywear stuff, hard drive backup stuff??

You should want a clean OS for everything....the solution? Keep your OS clean....I use the same OS for gaming and every day use that I use to set world record benchmarks....(well, used to be world records before the 5870s came out)

Hey everyone, it was by popular request that I should upload another sound sample for the x7200 - NP7280. It seems to be a little better... :)

How often do you do a clean install? My OS is over 5 years old and im sure its crap compared to a clean install.

The only YouTube clips of gameplay on the x7200 are enough to make anyone run a mile, maybe someone (reseller) should put something better up, it will be good for business!

Just a note about the Intel XTU program. The version that comes on your driver disk is the same version that is available for download HERE

My problem is the windows xp on my restore disks would be lacking 5 years of updates, and I don't know how to put all the updates since then on a USB for easy re-install.

It would be nice to know if anyone else have received this machine and have the BIOS reseting to non RIAD when reboot.

    Thanks

If you really want a perfectly clean OS for gaming and a cluttered OS for everything else run a VM. Keep you clean OS as the base and load up a VM for the cluttered OS. These machines can easily handle running a VM at top speed, that is one of the reasons why I ordered. I use VMs for work.

I imagine running 3dsMax or Matlab within a VM :p

Now, seriously, Windows 7 is not like XP. With a decent AV it´s easy to keep it clean from malware (unless of course one is totally naive) and to keep it clean in general. You can load it with tons of software and this won´t reflect on your gaming experience (or performance otherwise) at all, even less so with such a powerful machine like X7200. Besides malware, the other thing one should care about is not to run out of space. This can really cause some troubles with Windows 7.

On a side note,it is funny to see how many applications still want the user to reboot after installation, even though in Windows 7 this shouldn´t be the case at all /or almost at all/... A simple log-out/log-in should do in 99% of the cases. Anyways, I guess these are left-overs from the XP era (and they say M$ hasn´t crippled programmers minds :p).

My computer's been naked for two years with maybe less than five times of malware :p
And even if I do get it, a simple malwarebytes scan does the job.

I am the same, I load an AV once every few months, do a scan, uninstall. Protection comes from being smart, not having some program scan your computer all the time.

You might try this if it will not boot at all. Unplug it, remove the battery, remove the keyboard then near the memory chips you will see the CMOS battery. Remove it for a couple of minutes. Put everything back together and try it again. The service manual can help in removing the keyboard if you need it.

i am guessing he has the X7200 with 980x and dual gtx480m he flash the bios because the XTU program don't work with the beta bios and the flash go wrong then he try to boot the machine with a single 480 installed :)

Have you tried a blind flash? I would give that a shot, worst case scenario the board is dead anyway.

Do your fans or hdd's spin up when power is pressed or is the board completely bricked?

Alright chaps. I'm v. interested in this beast, but am keen to know what the fan noise is like both at idle, normal use and under load (read: gaming). I rejected the M17x on the basis that it sounded like a jet engine once the going got tough... is this the same? I'm not looking for silence, just nothing extreme.

Not quite true......not sure how they did the benchmark, but here is what I have done in my year old R1....and gameplay is usually faster than the bench if my desktop is any indicator (gets 46fps in this bench and around 70 in-game)
