true you don't want to play a 360 game at 720p if you can do 1080p on your tv

As was mentioned before, the HDMI In that some x7200's are being shipped with is not real 1080p. The recording of the input is not that good at all as well. When Clevo gets it improved for real 1080p input and the quality is there, then we will have this feature. No one knows when that will be...Sorry. -
Ok, the problem I had with the RAID resetting to non raid, was a bug on the BIOS, they send me a new BIOS a few minutes ago
-
^^ So is it fixed now?

There is no problem with the HDMI in, it is a option to the machine that Sager is not going with at this time. We have forwarded the feedback we have received and if they receive favorable feedback for this option they will bring it in with one of the upcoming batches.

What's the realistic life of this laptop with say a 980x, how much is Intel Sandy Bridge going to change things? Will this laptop still be up there in 3-4 years time? Surely it's more future proof than every other laptop available.
Future Proofing 3+
HDD: Yes
Monitor: No, only if you need 3D
CPU Performance: Yes
GPU Performane: Yes
Ports: Yes
Safe until 2014-5??? -
Or you could just buy my laptop and save a chunk of change and get the same GPU performance as the X7200. BTW several of your points were wrong:
1. Future proof: Both are equally future proof. Desktops will also be switching to sandy bridge. The only difference is one is mobile the other is a desktop cpu.
2. Support: Dell warranty support easily wins.
3. Price: AW's are cheaper, even in Australia. Not sure about NZ.
4. Performance: We have yet to see it. From what resellers put up, it's not any faster than the M17x I have. -
It will be interesting to see what people can tweak these systems upto, what were the M17x benching straight out of the box?
-
Even if it's 720P, on a 17'' screen it can't be THAT bad.

By vantage scores, with 4% or so. The only real difference is out of the box the desktop cpu is clocked much higher so will perform better. The 940xm/920xm can be clocked to perform just as well though -

Yeah its terrible... On HDTVs and such they have built in Hardware scalers as Speedy was saying making the images much better but on the laptop it will look pretty rough ...
Now thats not to say if you could have it for free you would not want it because something is better then nothing but if its true and its forced to run at 720p i can see why Sager would have opted out of it ..
Some will obviously care more then others so i guess the Poll Lickwidpain created is probably a good idea.. -

I miss the old days when you could just say starcraft without the 1 after it..

Sager probably realized they would have had a ton of phone calls asking why cant i run this in 1080p and people complaining so they nixed it all together ...
One less support call FTW .. -

Yes most games on both consoles are native 720p but the 360 has a hardware scaler built in so it can run everything at pseudo 1080p ... PS3 didnt have this since Sony didnt see the need..
The problem is that the panel you will be playing on will have a native res of 1080p making everything look blurry ..
So if you could run the Sager at 1080p with HDMI in then the 360 would look very good using its scaler but as it stands now everything will be blurry no matter what you do because the laptop screen will be doing all the scaling or what ever scaler is built into the HDMI thingy...
Its a mess lol.. -
Maybe the hdmi module has a built-in scaler? Wishful thinking
-
Ugh... I see. Its still a bummer though.

I just hate to see a port plugged up on my laptop.
-
Justin said earlier that its fine but Hemi stated Sager said it was not up to par so we certainly have some conflicting reports lol...
Like i said though if it were there and you didnt have to pay an extra penny for it great but i dont think i would put my laptop purchase on hiatus for this ...
In the end of course the choice is yours and its just one mans opinion on the matter ..
With how much some of your guys are spending on these rigs i can see you certainly wanting everything you can get out of it but if you wait and wait and Sager does not change its current plans then all that waiting is for naught..
Speedy and i are not the waiting kind -

Maybe we will get it if they release the dual 470ms

The question remains - will Clevo allow the new kicker in x7200? -
Care to make a friendly wager the mobile versions will not be released in 2 weeks ? ...
Also do you think Clevo would be the first to get the new ATI card ? i think not lol.. -
In terms of GPU, if my pills have not expired and I haven't gone completely bonkers, your maximum GPU score on 3d Mark Vantage was 16627 with i7-980xm and 5870 crossfire, over-clocked to 930mhz (from 700) GPU clock and 1235mhs (from 1000mhz) memory.
According to NotebookCheck which is not the best source ever, a clevo x7200 with core i7-960 and 480M SLI scored 15839 for GPU, if I am reading it correctly, at stock speeds.
How did you get them to be similar? Am I missing something?
In terms of real life gaming performance I don't know if they are similar or if they run games equally as fast/good. Most games today run relatively well even on my weakling the M11x but I somehow think I will be frowned upon if I suggested that my M11x is similar in performance to your M17x just because I can play most games on it. -

Holding your breath for 6870s at this point is a waste of energy. Just look at what is out now.
-
Power might be a limiting factor but that should not be a problem here. Push both to whatever limit each one has and then compare. Then you can say for example the M17x pushed to its limit is similar to the x7200 pushed to its limit but draws less power. Or the x7200 pushed to its limit is faster than the m17x pushed to its limit but uses twice the power. I was just wondering why we are comparing one specific over-clocked m17x (jokers pc) to a stock x7200 for GPU scores. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
From what we have seen so far....the x7200 pushed to its limits was within 100 points of the M17x.....

I agree, there is room for growth. Although, overvolting may not be a good option given the strict power budget. We will have to wait until the right users here get the machine and push it. Babyhemi has given us a warmup but now we need the full marathon

Liquid nitrogen... (lol this joke is getting really old)

On an easily accessible notebook like the x7200 it is an option. Something like Johnkss and his SS would be more practical. Frankly though, given the limited voltage you will be able to supply anyways, just throwing the thing in a freezer with the fans maxed should be more than enough cooling. Is what I do for my M17x haha - when I want to run it at 4.33 GHz
-
Sorry sir we found a chunk of frozen Lasagna in your machine so your warranty has been void...
-

Na... had to make room for the box fan it sits on haha. It was rather close to some bagel bites though.....
-
Also, there's always some chance of a surprise, history doesn't always have to repeat itself.
Personally, I'd probably wait till Kepler or even Maxvell, as those 10% increments are getting on me nerves, lol -

I pushed mine on air and posted the results. The X7200 didn't fare much better when Hemi fully OC'd his. Another owner that received his unit had his GPU's hitting 102C and his score was below mine. The 480M SLi has the potential to widen the gap if someone figures out how to overvolt the GPU's without the 300 PSU buckling under the added power draw. My guess is the system would probably throttle down.
