You should do more excercise! :p That´s my problem with using any other keyboard: you get addicted to the trackpoint, because it´s a fast way to control the mouse and you don´t have do move your hand away from the keyboard. Nontheless, I very much like the X7200 (maybe except for the 16:9 ratio) for its hardware and upgrade capabilities.

I have yet to see anyone come up with a backlit keyboard for the Clevo machines but on alot of the models across the forums i certainly have.. Alot of times they can get backlit keyboards from other machines which are the exact same dimensions as the exisiting keyboards they have making it a fairly easy mod...

Clevo has there own thing going on so trying to find an exact fit is going to be next to impossible..

    me either.
and the method they would have to implement would involve taking this current keyboard apart and installing the lights to run under the keys them selves. and making your own wiring harness. and then there is no guarantee that you would be able to see the keys...

still dont know why they havent switched over yet...

They remind me of Steve jobs...."flash support on mobile devices and blu ray for macs are stupid and no one needs them"
Clevo version: "Backlit keyboards are for kids, we want to attract serious customers only" (I would laugh but my own boss has actually said something almost as stupid)

Keep telling yourself that....every single person who sees the backlit keyboard on my M17x is blown away by it and wants it on their computer (and I am talking professionals not kids)

Yeah its funny because i have seen so many posts on these boards where the first thing people ask is does it have a backlit keyboard ? and when they hear No people say ok im not interested lol.. Yeah they certainly need it ... I know i complained about it myself when i had the 8760 and sure over time you deal with it but when the previous 4 or 5 machines had them and this one doesnt i felt like i was stepping back into the stone age..

I was driving to Philly last week for business (well I was passenger, co-worker was driving)

I started out using the Asus UL80vt (amazing battery life - 10 hours, no backlight) and after about 20 minutes said screw it and whipped out the M17x (low battery life - 3.5 hours, amazing backlight :) ) It really set the whole car aglow lol

I can totally understand... No backlit KB is a very strong con. Especially for us lazybones, not willing to acquire the blind typing skills and save some juice for OC'ing, lol

Well in the case of the X7200 im not sure i would let that get in my way of purchasing because your not going to get a laptop with a desktop CPU and 2x480ms anywhere ..

With there other machines there are certainly alternatives..

That's why I said "con" and not the "deal breaker" :)
Even though for me personally, a glossy and non-wide gamut screen is enough to remove the system from the wish list, still thinking about the behemoth, lol. Maybe some day...

well clevo might be thinking about the power consumption part upon designing the x7200 with backlight keyboard, i mean 2 gtx480m and i7 cpu is going to be at least 300w, not to mention other parts too. but o well i might be wrong too.

Clearly you have not looked into this much.....you are talking 5W max for EVERY LED on my laptop....And that is many more than just the keyboard. They do not have because they must think it is not a necessary feature - despite historically high public demand for it

US buyers have one option. Origin PC (former founders of Alienware) offer it with HDMI in. They're also already offering 460M single and SLI. You'll pay a premium over Sager though.

It is higher. They will offer you awesome customer service though if they follow the same practices they did when they owned Alienware. That is up to you though. As long as they are just rebranding Clevos...I would just get whoever is the best deal since their product is not innovative in anyway to call for that price

Yeah, good laptops are designed to not vent a lot of heat through the keyboard. The x7200 is one of those (as shown in the review done by xoticpc).

I see the motherboard has a module slot for HDMI IN card, does anyone know if the HDMI IN can be purchased and installed EASILY by the user. After all 720p HDMI IN is better than no HDMI IN.

The hard part will be getting the item vs doing the work ..

If Sager cant get them then it might take some special order through a European Reseller if even they can get it at all...

None of these origin guys are the original AW owners. These guys were part of the sales/marketing team early on but not the founders of AW. BTW thanks for the post in the FS thread--though a mod deleted it for some reason.

I see, was not aware of that.

Ya the mods are a bit ridiculous in the FS section. I actually complained to one of them and was told it is because other sellers were complaining about their threads getting buried due to "buddy bumps"

I said that is RETARDED - especially as I make very relevant remarks pertaining to the item for sale/person selling. The mod I was talking to agreed but said as a whole the other mods decided to delete posts not directly related to the item for sale. I break that stupid rule whenever I can....let them clean up my "mess"

    So for $6k NZ Money I can get a M17x, with 940XM, Xfire 5870 GPU, 8GB RAM.

    or x7200 with 950, Dual 480M GPU, 6GB RAM

    Winner is...
    Monitor: M17x
    CPU: x7200
    GPU: x7200
RAM: mmm dual channel vs triple, 6 vs 8GB??
    HDD: Even
    Battery: M17x
    Keyboard: M17x
    Support: mmm??
    Future Proof: x7200
    Style: M17x
    Desirability: Even
    Brag-ability: Close but x7200
    Awe-ability: x7200
    Value 4 $: x7200

My conclusion the top end of one model that is coming close to the end of it's lifecycle, or the bottom end of a new model just beginning it's life cycle. Which can be upgraded to 990x 24GB Ram, 4TB of HDD (According to Eurocom).

The awesomeness of the M17x made it a difficult choice but the winner has to be the x7200.

Ordered and Paid last week, but due to there being no SLI available I figure I have time to change my configuration. I've been over the thing 20x but it always ends up being way to expensive, heading towards $9,000 with the bits I want. Ouch!!

You can buy net books for $500, and notebooks for $800 new, so even though our money is not as strong as the USA a $6000 laptop is extreme, most spend $1200-1500 on a laptop.

The x7200 is the better choice right now for new systems. With the M17x you pay alot for the cpu (assuming you want the extreme, anything else is not even close to the desktop performance) but with the x7200 you pay for the GPU (because nvidia does not know how the hell to price a GPU)

    @Quadzilla How's the G73JW?

That's where I started looking/desiring/ready to pounce, then the M17x and then I found this puppy.

Told a friend to buy one (G73JW) the other day.

The G73 is a very good choice but it really depends on what kind of performance your looking for in a machine ...

In comparison to this machine yeah its got nothing on it but as a whole its a very well equipped rig .. Its light, quiet,Decent battery life(2:45min or so) and comes with all the bells and whistles :)..

Good luck with your machine and i hope it turns out to be what you expected ...

I have been hanging here alot in anticipation of Speedys machine to arrive and at this point im more excited for him to get it then he is lol...

I may have to pay for shipping so i can borrow it for a week or 2 from him ;)..

I did check on this and it is NOT a user installable module that can be added later. It is in the motherboard itself. The motherboard itself would need to be replaced.

Of course there is a port for the HDMI In on the models shipping now but it is plugged right now. Sorry about this... :(
