the memory controller in the 920 is downclocking the ram to 1066 even though the ram is specd at 1333

No not all .. And if you planned on upgrading the CPU at somepoint it was a wise decision..
The difference between the 2 RAMs is certainly nothing to write home about either way .. -
-
I don't think there is even a price difference.
-
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
either way is fine
-
Should he buy more RAM again when he upgrades his CPU lol ?.. -
If you were never going to then i would say dont bother ...
Why buy 2 times when you dont have to... Dont now then later when you upgrade you will be kicking yourself for not having bought it and having to buy it again... That 980x is going to set you back enough you dont need to be spending any more money lol..
Speedy bought his on day 1 for $1000 from Microcenter and i should know because i had to drive and get it lol.. Hes crazy though ... -

In theory, the 1333 ram will be more friendly if he plans to overclock as well
-
Most folks won't notice the speed difference between the two. And the 1066 should use less power and generate less heat.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The power and heat will actually be about identical.
-
What about 6 vs 12GB of ram, when would you need 12? Gaming? Rendering video? Photshop?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
not for gaming, but anything business oriented just about
if it would justify the desktop processor it usually needs the ram space as well -
To stop worrying about 1066 vs 1333 I will just upgrade the cpu now, thus the new signature. Waiting for these 480's is a blessing in disguise. Settles all my questions apart from one, does any software come on blue Ray or is it only movies?
-
-
Would like to ask if the GTX card trottles when playing games?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Odds are though that in the next few years games will start coming on blu ray to take advantage of the space
-
-

If any throttling occurs it will be due to insufficient power not heat (unless you get that cpu upto 105c)
-
The 990x is due out anyday now?? It would be better to wait for that chip rather than the 'to be superseded' 980x? Appartently the 980x will drop in price and the 990x will replace its price point. Thoughts?

The 990x has been delayed till Q1 2011 the last we checked.

Was gonna Get an Alienware but Seems they are currently not Future proof* not sure when they are gonna released the next refresh either.
im just afraid that once i get the X7200 they games might not perform how they should like i recently watched mafia 2 benchmark on X7200 the FPS was like 15 ~ 20 FPS..
and there's no news about the Ati/Amd cards gonna land in X7200.. -
This site shows the 480m SLI run at 75.8fps on ultra.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480M SLI - Notebookcheck.net Tech
This page shows gpu cards fps on all the games http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html -
Also I think he had driver problem when he ran the benchmark.
-
He recorded those videos using something like FRAPs which will destroy your FPS(running FRAPS wont but recording with it will).. basically your Video card is pulling double duty doing that .. Thats why i asked him just to post the final scores of the benches in a screenshot which he did do at somepoint and the scores we shall say were much better ..
-
Does anyone know the refresh rate of the monitor?
-
Refresh is 60hz..
-
Mmm I was hoping for 120hz like all the chatter was mentioning. -
Nope those screens are not yet available... Not sure when Clevo will get them..
If there were 120hz 1080p screens there would probably be a huge thread dedicated to just that and you would not be able to miss it ..
Lots of people waiting on that ... No real info on them though like Brightness, Manufacture,Quality,Viewing angles etc.. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes these 1080p 120hz screens are just starting to surface. 2011 will probably be the year for seeing these in more notebooks. Looks like HP will be among the first ones to carry these displays.

Given choosing between 120Hz @ 1080P vs 60Hz @ 1920x1200, I myself would take 60.
-
With Clevo you no longer have the 1200P option.
-
Official Release date for germany is out now !
On 6th of october, all pre-ordered X7200 will be delivered to the consumers. -
I'm curious about the sales number... How many people have money to burn on this
-
I'm wondering if the new 1TB 2.5" drives will fit, they are 12.5mm thick instead of 9.5mm, how tight is it under the battery is there room for another 3mm?
-
still waiting on SLI 460m/470m news.............i see laptops turning up with a single 460m
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
How many x7200 with dual 480m are there in the world? 5 or 6? One for each reseller? There are no reviews or YouTube clips from owners, seems they pre-released rather than released the x7200. ???
-
I think only 1 person has received it so far on NBR with 480M SLI. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have only heard of one person receiving it at all and they had a single gpu
-
Count me in, next week.
-
Yes and he is an Authorized Dealer -
With the high fps on games of the 480m SLI does that mean a lot of image tearing on the 60hz screen?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
-
Yes sadly not everyone that buys a new PC comes to hang out on NBR and are probably off enjoying all that power ..
-
I have received mine last Friday, nice machine, powerful, does not work so hot as my previous 2 Clevos, gotta say I miss the 1200 pixels of vertical res, the 1920x1080 seems a bit small for what I do, I'm not a gamer, I do VFX, got it with 3 Hybrid HDDs in raid 0 and 12 GB of ram with the i7 extreme 980, benchmarked with 3DS MAX between 4 to 8 times faster than my EQ7 and about half the speed of my fully loaded HP Z800.... Not bad at all for a notebook
Also tested the RAID which is giving me about 250 MB/s with big files
The HDMI output works great, looking at my flickr pictures in the big LCD is awesome.
Something I do not like, is the click of the .... How you call it? Fingerpad?... It sounds too loud, and is too hard to press, is like pressing the button of a jacket!!!
Build quality seems great... The power brick can also be used as a personal defense weapon .... You can crash someone skull with that no problem.
Have only one video card since no SLI seems to be available so far, and also from previous experience, I get much more benefit putting my money on a fast processor than the video card, since most of the video editing and 3D modeling apps do not take any advantage of the SLI since are not prepared for that as games are...
I spotted a few glitches on the BIOS and Network card which I'm sure will be addressed soon. at least on my machine -
Thanks for posting this, congrats on your order. Tell us more as you go along and pics would reaelly be appreciated too, welcome to the forum
Ps. I hate you (Jealousy) -
Does anyone know of a third party backlit keyboard that you get for this machine?
-
If I am purchasing this, I would most certainly get an external thinkpad keyboard lol I´d kind of miss the damned trackpoint
