So I updated the BIOS, stuck in the other 2 sticks and it has been running fine for the past 9 hours. Fans seem to run a little more.

At the moment, I create a print file for the connections on the back. If more people are interested, i will share the print file.

Here an example, what i want:

@crossshot I take it that's a vinyl sticker ?. If so i am interested as i keep struggling to plug in the USB-C dongle i have because i keep going to the far over to where the DP's are lol.

Also did anyone take a photo of thermal pad placement on the heatsink so i can guestimate how many packs of 80x40 Gelid GP-Extreme 2.0mm i need.

Yeah, i want to print it as vinyl sticker. The picture is only a quick photoshop example about the idea.

But i have to test, whats possible to print (thin lines or empty areas filled and so on). I have some ideas.

I have the same problem, when i plugged the power supplys and the two dp connector in. Hard to find it blind :D In the first days i have connected the two 27" monitors to the Dell D6000 dock, but the graphic performance is very bad.

Here two pictures of the heatsink.

Ok, i will the share the final print version of the sticker (maybe i create 1, 2 or 3 versions of it).

But back to the stability of the X170KM-G.

Thats a shame the overclocking feature in the bios is causing instability. Taking that away will also take away the ability to undervolt and downclock cpu for inproved thermals. Just as a example when playing Battlefield 5 playing a 4.1 on my 10700k doesnt change the experience due to BF games dont really caring about clock speeds but more about cores. I wish they would release a bios were we dont need to run any software in windows or Linux. My desktop has options to set a fan profile why cant a High end laptop do the same? Do you guys think its a rocket lake issue with the instability ? as i running a 10700k.

True, though I ended up with a 9900ks in mine simply for the silicon quality.

@Meaker@Sager yes i quite like what @crossshot is doing, Clevo missed a trick from Lenovo on that one, where they could of use the RGB strip at the back to light up symbols like the stickers crosshot is making.

As for you 9900K i agree that the silicon lottery favored the 9th gen more then it has 10th and 11th if what i am reading on here and on XMG discord its starting to sound like Silicon lottery is playing a part in the system stability on 11th gen systems too.

    Anyone know what this means

Nothing is over clocked. If anything i have it downclocked and undervolted on cpu side GPU never been touch ed. The X170 KM-G is only 2 weeks old

Uninstall the driver, run DDU then reinstall the driver if it continues after this it doesn't look good.

Also make sure you not running in low performance mode as the GPU is not even clocking past 2D clocks.

There was a lot of display drivers crashes in event viewer. Plus games were crashing and other games showed artifacts also. Ireinstalled windows because i was getting massive drops in game. It still was doing it after reformmat. Today was the first day i saw artifacts. I know from past experience with new GPUs being bad out of the box. I always ran in performance mode because i wanted to downclock the cpu for better thermals.

    Here the first three designs

v1: stand alone small icons (but i thinks, its hard to plot with the thin lines)
v2: small sticker in a grey color a white printed icons
v3: big sticker for the whole tail in a grey color with printed icons

And in the overview a second version of the icons. But i like the v1 to v3 icon more.

Just testing XMG 105 bios with 4 sticks so far no issues 2 minute in thus far with aidia64 GPU CPU RAM load and not shutdowns with performance mode enabled on both CCC and power plan.

So XMG's 105 Gear 1 mode and Gear 2 modes works fine for me.

@sydneyblue any update? I really hope that 3080 isn’t toast. I did notice on my unit that one side of the vrams weren’t covered at all which was quite annoying. Something I wouldn’t expect from pcspecialist. Seems like their quality control has been **** as of late. Had a p775tm from them with wrong size screws in the cpu mount and the same thermal pad issues!!

At this point I’d rather build my Clevo myself, that way I know everything is done right!

It doesnt look good thanks for the reply man xD. I contact HID waiting for RMA. I think it is toast :( Im really bummed because i know it isnta software issue now. THis is my first experience with HID. They respond in seconds before you buy but as soon as they got you money its 1 to 2 days. I was a little disapointed with there RAM they provided. I selected 2x8 premuim dual channel. I got that with Gskill but it was 1R x 16. I brough that to there attention asking for anything they can do like a refund because high density ram is not something i want in a high end notebook. They said they can do a 135 credit for the ram. I am waiting for a pair of Kingston Hyper x https://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KF432S20IB1K2_32.pdf There is a chance it might not run at 3200. Even HID said it should work but not 100%. I will pop the sticks in tomarrow and give feedback if they are going to work at 3200. They should because thats the default timings 3200 CL 20

    Will a 9900K work in the X170KM?

Think thermals should be comparable to 10/11900K?

I am not sure if Comet Lake was also effected as the issue was bios related and i only have a Rocket Lake CPU. However easy to test for insert 4 sticks of ram have only RAM CPU and GPU checked on AIDA64 stress test with Max performance enabled on both CCC and Power Plan, It will then error out about threading and then the system will simply switch off (On bioses before XMG 105 G1/G2).

Just waiting now on PCS to release theirs and then i will be flashing back to that.

Just a heads up... I am seeing crashes with 3.55 when Entertainment Mode is selected and Throttlestop is enabled. No issues with Performance Mode and TS.

I was hoping for more control over the fan speeds, specifically being able to drop below 25% but no luck with this update.

This is really odd, just re-padded the laptop with Gelid GP-Extreme and running firestrike with max fans on results in higher temps, i have checked the GPU mount and its made contact so slightly baffled why this is happening, specially when CPU is not even touching 75c now let alone 86c like it was.

    Result (3dmark.com)

    Used 2mm pads all round.

Anything with good P&P speeds/timings will do. My ram might be getting on a bit but it still does fairly well:

@Meaker@Sager i have run in to a big issue. Used Gelid Shore 35 thermal pads 2.0mm all round and on Max performance mode and load CPU is now topping out at 86c instead of 93c however the GPU has increased in temps from 71c to 83c and Host Sport is maxing out at 94c. Thermal paste shows contact on the dies, i haven't left any plastic behind either so pretty much stumped.

Air out the back and sides is not that warm either.

Thank god i took photo's of the heat sink. I know now whats causing the issue.

Its not 2mm across the board at all some pads are 2mm others are 1mm it would seem. Guess i am taking laptop to bits again, thankfully i have 0.5mm 1mm and 1.5mm EK thermal pads and some 2mm gelids left.

Can you share pictures of what the paste on the heatsink and chip looks like when you take the heatsink off? The pattern it leaves behind will let us see if contact is good.

SPD vs XMP, lots of sticks have an SPD that will just boot and work in all systems to ensure you get a foot in the door with it.

The NAND chips behave the opposite of processing chips, they like to be warm when in use and cold when off to maximise their lifespan and data integrity time.

Me, because the RAM can only work at 3200 MHz with the XMP profile. However the BIOS does not support the XMP profile, so the best performing Jedec profile is selected, that is 2666 MHz CL19 (the XMP profile is 3200 MHz CL16)

I was considering the same option as you with a better spec kit but with no Eta on prema i went for these sticks with still little hit cl but they are 2Rx8 which was better then my 1Rx16 kit i had a getting a refund from HID of 135 dollars

Will be sending it back to PCS as I just used the last set of pads and its idling at 70c.

I knew I should if left the pad as they were, why do I have to mess about. So that's two weeks now without a PC.
