I thought Kryonaut had no cure time myself.
But then again I repaste every 6 months and clean the laptop every week so if it did it doesn't get a chance anyways.

I'm trying to overclock my X170KM and in TimeSpy i got the following:

    Score total 13878
    Score GPU 14161
    Score CPU 12471

With this result I am 13th in the ranking of laptop, which is not bad.

Despite the GPU score is better than mostly, the CPU score is very low. I tryed to overclock the CPU with intel XTU but i don't know what i can improve.

I just put all core at 4.9ghz and undervolt -130mv and PL1 at 200w. But if i try to increase the core clock at 5ghz i get Current/EDP Limit Throttling and thermal Throttling.

In my laptop the vendor did not use the liquid metal but just grizzly termo paste for cpu and gpu and i know that with liquid metal could be better.

But why i get Current/EDP Limit Throttling? What can i do to improve the CPU score with Intel XTU?

You are hitting the power limits and thermal limits all in one. You are trying to run 4.9 all core with a pretty hefty undervolt and you're still running up against thermal throttling. Your system is also limited to 200w max PL so that's another wall. Asking an 11900k to pull 4.9ghz+ (or even stock) can be a tall order all core stress test/ heavy load. Your CPU was throttling at 4.8. Expect even more throttling at 4.9 as you've experienced both heat and power throttling.

At a certain point, your chip for various reasons (silicon quality, BIOS limitations, ambient temps, heatsink pairing, TIM choice, etc..) you've hit the wall of what you can reliably extract from your system performance wise.

I mentioned it before, but we've had previous board members purposely buy silicon lottery CPUs so their DTRs would run faster and/or cooler.

You could try liquid metal, but I would test the pairing first because if it isn't sound, your temps will actually be higher.

I'm 99% sure, the most bsod are ram related.

After the last bios update, the OC was disabled in the bios (it shows disabled) but it was enabled. With this enabled OC and only 2x16GB 3200Mhz (Samsung) ram the system was stable.

Now with new ram 2x32GB 3200Mhz (Patriot) the system is completely unusable with enabled OC. 5 to 10min => bsod.

    MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXEPTION clipsp.sys
    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXEPTION ntfs.sys
    VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR

All bsod are different and it makes no sense. The system runs over 10 hours with bench tests, oc and gaming with disabled OC absolutly stable. Now i enabled OC and start pime95 => bsod after 15sec.

with equal processor ( so maybe a 10700 to an 11900) how much of a difference ( games and apps instead of benchmarks ) is there between the 3080 and 2080S?

Not getting 2 weeks since NVidia updated itself but i am getting a few days between crashes. Usually it's idle or not doing anything demanding.
Anybody found a way to have the crash reboot instead of shutting down? It says it's going to restart but turns off. It's set to restart in settings.

The lack of true memory controls is frustrating in that you can't really dial in and test.
I'm waiting for Prema to run the gamut with a 3800 CL18 kit to pick up an X170KM and see where it lands

Are you able to run the sticks slower?

After setting the screen turnoff timer to Never, my system has been rock solid in Performance mode with 2x32GB G.Skill sticks (Samsung). Tried to add the other 2 sticks and it failed to boot. Got a fancy colored keyboard, then blue keyboard but it never gets to Windows or the BIOS splash screen. Also pulled the battery, etc.

It doesn't have a cure time, I have checked however currently the temps where I live is a sweat fest and underload CPU is hitting 86c and GPU 65c with autofans so its holding up.

Its now overall oerofmeance over time that counts.

This is the issue I am hitting with 4 sticks, even if you manage to get it to post with 4 sticks it will BSOD constantly. Its a bios issue as I have been given other bios files and it will boot fine with 4 sticks but then system will shutdown under full load with memory.

However getting clevo to fix the issue is like right now talking to a brick wall.

Well i have been using it 24/7 since repaste its currently 30c in the room i am in (Hence why i can't sleep) and the temps have peaked to 86c on the CPU and 65c on the GPU. I have been hitting heavy loads all day and its been perfect.

So i will use kryonaut on all systems i repair and using the kryonaut extreme on this laptop after getting some more as 2g was only enough to cover the GPU and the CPU.

Yesterday i put thermal grizzly conductonaut on CPU and GPU. With 130w (power mode) its around 5°C cooler and the CPU clock is ~0.05Ghz higher. With higher power i cant compare it with my old values, because ambient temperature is not the same. I have at the moment a 5 to 8°C higher ambient temp. But it looks like, its not a big deal.

My x170 came in late last week and I am very happy.

My only complaint is quality related noises when typing and fans at idle.

When typing there is a squeaks when pressing the keys. Not a deal breaker but not ideal for a $3700 laptop.

When the fans are idle there is sound coming from both fans similar to a garbling sound like a water pump or fish tank. This noise goes away completely when gaming but it certainly noticeable when doing office work.

I think all would be good if I could lower fan below 26% (Quiet).

    Any insights would be helpful.

For reference... I reached out to Xotic who then reached out to Sager who then said this fan noise is normal. I cannot imagine this is by design but what I expected from customer service.

I'm not seeing any of that in Performance mode/Balanced power profile. Fans kick in when it's doing something heavy duty but that's once or twice a day.
You can set it to Quiet mode.

Thank you. Quiet Mode fan profile is 25%. I need to either fix the fan hardware or get more control over the fan speed to drop it to below 25% when doing office task.

Just got the X170KM today upgrading from P870KM. For some reason the bios doesn't seem to be detecting the Windows Boot Manager on a Samsung 950 Pro NVME drive with GPT. If I switch SATA operation from AHCI to Intel RST it does find the Windows Boot Manager, but just goes to Windows Advanced Recovery.

Any ideas of how to get it to recognize the OS in AHCI?

Actually I do have UEFI OS Fast Boot disabled in the bios, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Also noticed that this drive doesn't show up in the bios on either my new or old laptop, so might just need to clone it to a newer drive.

EDIT: Cloning to a new drive worked. The problem may have been due to Samsung 950 Pro's legacy boot option rom. Samsung 960 Pro and later versions seem to work without issue.

I'm honestly surprised))) 4K displays 120 hertz 100% argb have long been supplied with these laptops as an option, at least I can safely choose any matrix from my supplier, at the moment barebones with matrices are available, FHD 144Hz-300Hz, 2k 165Hz, 4k 60Hz-120Hz.

True, i've seen some of those links, however im not too keen on replacing the panel myself. I hope they release one soon.

I've checked everywhere but every reseller only sells either 300hz FHD and 4k 60 HZ unfortunately

This is the problem of your resellers that they do not want to provide such an opportunity) I buy laptops directly from the homeland of the brand and there is such an opportunity with a choice of display.

The reseller dont answer me since three days. So i did another test and put the new 2x32GB 3200Mhz Patriot Ram under the keyboard. Now the ram work with 2667Mhz (not 3200Mhz like under the backcover) and the system runs stable.

If this is the solution, i have to accept the lower ram frequency.

This is what I did. I ordered a 4k 120Hz screen from aliexpress, paid about $330 USD. Model number B173ZAN03.3

It works great and has zero backlight bleed which is a huge improvement from the 4k 60hz that shipped with the laptop. The only problem is that by doing so, you loose Gsync. Not a killer for me as I think some of the games I play look better at the higher refresh rate non gsync vs 60hz Gsync. I can deal with a tad bit of screen tearing if it comes to it.

Replacing the screen was pretty easy to be honest. There are two black strips of sticky adhesive that you pull the tabs upwards slowly and itll come off. If you pull too fast, itll break and then youll have to use a pick or something to get it started again. There are Youtube videos on the process

So I have 64Gb of oloy ram. (2x32) jedec 3200MHz. If I install it under the back cover, Itll run at 3200Mhz but constant crashes. If I run them under the keyboard, its 2666Mhz but stable. If I install only 1 under the keyboard, one slot runs 3200 but the other runs 2666.... I dont want to keep trying ram brands so I settled for 2666 for the time being

Does anyone know if Prema is actually working on a bios for this model? I bought from HIDevolution and keep hoping one day the bios will be available. I really want to get rid of the power throttling and hopefully, if its even possible, get rid of the bios whitelist allowing my 4k 120Hz screen to run gsync.

Thank you. Glad to read it was a painless replacement process. I think if you turn down Anti-Aliasing you may be able to get past 100fps in most games mitigating screen tearing. I am sticking with my 1080p 300hz for awhile. Crossing my fingers an OLED 17 screen is coming (someday).

I imagine this has been done in the past but I had not seen it when searching. I added a cable wrap/braid to the X170km dual power adapters. It makes the adapters much easier to manage and look cleaner in my opinion. I am using electrical tape at the ends for now until I find a more commercial look.
