I'm having a problem with my USB ports, they sometimes randomly disconnect and reconnect straight after when idle but also when transferring files. Same problem occurs with camera connected via cable and usb stick. I noticed that after restarting it seems to be working fine but when I use laptop for few days and put it into suspended mode it reappears. Any one had this problem and knows a possible solution? Thanks

It´s normal 93ºc Intel PCH temperature while gaming? i think sometimes raise 100ºc.

    IDE temp is 76ºc.

    Hi everyone,

I recently ordered an W230ST and am quite satisfied with it, without any big problems as reported by some people here, guess I'm a bit lucky. However recently I detected that my W230ST screen doesn't show the same color to other laptop's screen. For example on this one:
    9fNMHji.png

Which color do you see (on your W230ST or other laptop): blue or violet ?

This is not a real problem for me but I am just curious why there is this difference, and how can we know which one is the "true color" ?

Actually there is no such thing as "true color". Every screen is different, and true RGB values are almost impossible to have with a laptop.
Though there is a reason why your clevo shows a more saturated color! Because the clevo's screen is IPS! IPS is a technology mostly used in smartphones,
but also on high end laptops. The black is really dark with IPS and colors are more... over the top! It's a personal thing, what kind of screen you prefer...

There are recognised standards however and every panel of every series will have a different colour reproduction, the IPS displays are perhaps a little more accurate, you can calibrate your display if colour accuracy is important but otherwise its just every display is different.

Has anyone tried enabling encryption on hard drives such as the Samsung 840 PRO? It's suppose to have hardware support for encryption and you are suppose to be able to set that in BIOS but I can't see "HD Password" anywhere.

    Suggestions?

Thanks for the answers. The problem is only my laptop (W230ST) shows violet, while all other ones of the members in my group show blue (the needed one), so they all claimed that it is my W230ST displayed the wrong color, which I don't know how to argue :(.

Thank you for the reply @cenkaetaya. All the touchpad features are working just fine but it only half up the touchpad area, half down the area is total nothing.. i guess this is a hardware glitch ..

    appreciate the reply :hi2:

I agree, I must admit i downloaded a pirated version just to see how it runs and its beyond epic! I can't believe that 13inch laptop can run this at better settings and frame rate that next gen consoles :) I'm running a 920/2460 overclock on my gpu and full fan on with lifted laptop getting 85c on cpu and 73c on gpu. Now that I'm certain that it wont run as bad as the beta im off to buy this game!

Hey I have some quick questions for owners of this laptop, I've read through most of the threads but can't remember off hand if this has been answered. I've been eying a w230st for a while now, only mobile computing device I have is my phone, which is terrible for most things other then surfing Youtube. I don't know who likes to surf the web with a touch screen in a mobile browser, it just gets dang annoying after a while.

I am wondering if Audio is supported over the hdmi? Basically I am wondering if I could setup a sudo docking station for the laptop by just plugging the laptop into my monitor which has a audio out for hdmi connections. Would make it super slick to go from portable to dtr since I'd just need to plug in one usb, and one hdmi cable to use all my desktop attachments.

Also, you do have access to both video cards over a hdmi connection? So it's not limited to just one of the video options on the laptop? Basically I'm just checking to be sure I can plug it into my monitor for gaming when I'm at my desk.

    Thanks,
    Nyct

im getting from 50-100 fps with 1366x786 resolution pretty much everything on high except maybe 2 on medium. on 1600x900 its like from 40-70 same settings. But then again I'm running quite an overclock of my gpu. But as I remember beta was very bad and this runs awesome and looks amazing - better than bf3 with some stuff on ultra. Overall I'm very satisfied 50frames per second when there is huge explosions and loads going on is quite an achievement. I had to go back to my old drivers (331.40) as I was getting a crash on latest 331.65 but also curious of performance on these.

    Hi,
I had a bad touchpad too, no matter what I did I couldnt get it to work properly, there seemed to be only the top half would register any input.
I bought a replacement one on ebay and fitted it, works a charm now, it wasnt a driver issue or settings in my case.
If you dont have any luck download the service manual and buy a synaptics 920-001019-01 E164564 TM-01146-004 WJ943-070. They are quite easy to fit.
    Hope this helps

HT, thanks for the video, helped me decide to buy the game!

By chance can you share your settings for the video over clock your using, I heard you mention them at the start of the video but it went through a bit quickly for me!

    Brilliant hanuman ,
I somehow miss your previous post

other issue i have is the iffy wifi signal signal. I have tried Intel N-135 and Killer N-1202 always on limited connection. but with older Intel N-100 it works flawlessly.

BF4 only 20-30 fps on stock setting :(

Hi Art4ull Dodg4ar!!! I'm on GeForce 331.65 Driver which i believe is the latest one.
I have not overclock it in any ways nor exploited the full potential of this little beast :D (4700MQ+8Gb PC10600 @single channel+msata+Win8.1 64Bit)
so as you can see ..many rooms for improvement..one step at a time. (I'm on a budget .............. ;))

OK guys... I was following this thread for many days but just cannot browse through all the replies. I just have a few questions here I hope someone can quote me with if it has been discussed before.

LCD panel: I will be ordering one from China, which is the same barebone design but branded differently. It is cheaper (~$1000 AUD, compared to $1400 AUD in Australian retailers). I am just unsure of the screen and I guess it is best to expect the worst, and I heard that AUO has the lesser quality screen? How exactly are the Chi Mei and AUO different? As long as there isnt a day and night difference I wont care. But if panelook is correct, AUO only has 6 bit colour depth vs 8 bit of Chi Mei? That is a complete deal breaker, I mean 16M colours vs 200K..

Thermal compound: I assume each retailer will apply their own compound? The ones applied here in Australian retailers are IC Diamond and it is supposed to be good. But in expecting the worst from my Chinese retailer, how much difference would I anticipate from the IC paste vs some generic paste?

External display: Can this laptop use an external display to play games? Dont get me wrong, I am afraid that the VGA and HDMI only allow the HD 4600 to run, and not the NVIDIA card, thus making it impossible to play on a bigger 24" screen for example.

Other parts: I also assume retailers will get to choose whatever they want for other parts like HDD and RAM? Say I buy tht 8GB RAM version, can I just buy any other RAM that has the same frequency and voltage and add in later if I require it? Or the brand and model must match for the two sticks to work?

    Sorry for the lengthy questions,

I received my W230ST from PWN PCS yesterday and was glad to see the customer service was still exceptional (thanks Scott and Andy!)

After a day or so of setting up and driver battle the thing is fully operational now.

My only problem is the Secureboot not configured properly -broblem: I tried resetting the values in bios but the thing just won't budge. I did take the HDD from my old W110ER and updated to win 8.1 after, so that might be why conventional solutions aren't working. Anyone have a solution for this?

My display panel was dead pixel free, but there is a slight white stain of light bleed in the lower right corner. However, it is only visible in a complete black background when the brightness is cranked up to max.

Also, does anyone have the full contents of the driver CD uploaded somewhere? I already got all my drivers straight from manufacturers but I was wondering if there's a software to change the backlight color. I know it's possible since HIDEvolution offers custom color themes :p

The LCD should be fine I guess.. if the AUO is more matte I'd prefer that over the kind of glossy surface of the Chi Mei. I'm not sure 6 bit would make such a big difference to the human eye, except if you deal with photo editing and stuff alike.
Hell we can even switch them with each other if you like =p

Whatever which thermal paste is used, expect it to be badly applied. So it's better to do it yourself anyway.

nVidia can be used on external panel no worries.

You don't need the brand of RAM to match, but it's better that its specs match ie CAS values etc.

Nop, I assume they use custom leds.

Im no pro but I think the prevalent colour depth is 24 bit. 2^24 = 16M colours, in this case I assume each of the three RGB channels have 8 bits to them. So Chi Mei's 8 bit means that it can display 2^(8*3) = 16M colours. If we reduce that to 6 bit it would be 2^(6*3) = 260K colours, compared to human eye able to discern 10M colours.... For what we are paying in 2013/14 this is kind of a disappointment. One of the best strong point of this laptop is its screen, the Chi Mei has been praised in every review about this laptop.

Again I am no pro and I really hope someone here can prove me wrong so I can go and get this awesome laptop!

And for the paste... I never did something like that before and am quite nervous in reapplying it. But if it will improve by a lot then I guess it is part of the fun owning a fully customisable laptop isnt it?

For the RAM: that is the ideal scanario. But I doubt I will use over 8GB anyway lol

    Thanks!

Pretty much all TN panels are 6-bit but they also use FRC dithering to simulate the 16 million color gamut. There is a reason IPS is usually preferred, and part of that is the true 8-bit color depth.

And reapplying thermal paste is easy as pie especially in this laptop.

There are 6bit ips also. So you really have to dig the spec.

For general use, I don't think you can really tell a difference even compare them side by side.

    Secure Boot:

    - Under “boot” set “OS select” to “Win8″
    - Under “security” set “Secure Boot Mode” to “custom”
    - Under “Key Management” set “Factory Default Key Provisioning” to “enabled”
    - Install keys then save and exit

Didn't work, did it before, tried it again, it says INSTALLED on all the key parts.

Most likely I should just reinstall, but I don't mind the watermark enough to do anything that major about it any time soon

So in other words it doesn't really matter which screen I end up with? That would be the most sensible thing as there is no point when the same model can have vastly different specs.

Has anyone tried hackintosh on this laptop? I am planning to dual boot mac on this laptop when I have the time. Hopefully I could get some guidance from someone who has successfully done it. :)

Anyway what would be the best msata ssd 120gb-240gb now? I am planning to buy 2 of those and try raid0.

Does someone know which other laptop is using the exact same keyboard ?
I'd like to switch keys with an azerty one, but those are too expensive.
I think if I can find another laptop which uses the same keys (maybe an asus ?), it would be cheaper.

Wing, in heavy firefights does your FPS drop to around 47-50?

How about when aiming down the sights into smoke or a highly dense area?

Yeah it dips down into the upper 40's and lower 50's at times, but that's still incredibly great. ;)

Prema! You're next on my list of things to do techy-wise. Review/How-to with your BIOS. Sorry it's taking so long. I also have the Clevo W840SU-T laptop review to do too.

Finally recieved my laptop today, im at work so cant play fully (also waiting on mysn to send a 64gb msata and a copy of windows 8.1) but gonna use my existing SSD with windows 7 till then.

First impressions, i am so suprised at how slim and light it is. I was expecting something bigger. It puts the alienware 14" to shame, in both size and price!

Cant wait to start playing around tonight!

Hi there. I was wondering if I could throttle stop or lower in intel XTU the CPU multiplier in order to lower Battlefield 4 temperatures. I mean I noticed in intel XTU that BF4 uses about 50-60% of cpu power so does that mean if I downclock it to like 2.7ghz I will get the same performance? Which cores are more important 1 and 2 or 3 and 4 or all of them? Can someone explain it to me like im 5 :)
