I also bought BF4. On preset "High" I always have 30+ FPS. CPU stays around 81°C. That's almost as good as BF3. :)

What CPU do you have? That's extra cool. I can't keep my CPU < 90C with BF3 or 4.

I'm having a problem with my Mythlogic 1313 (W230ST), and the Nvidia GPU. I'm wondering if anybody else experienced the same problem

My discrete GPU has disappeared from my Device Manager twice already. On the first time, I thought that there was something wrong with the install, so I reinstalled Windows 8 Pro, and redid the drivers, but I couldn't install the Nvidia drivers because the software "couldn't find compatible Nvidia hardware".

Before the first disappearance, I installed the stock Clevo drivers first, then I updated to the latest drivers, because the community said it would be okay to do so. The initial install was fine, and the updated install went smoothly, too. But after a while, the device just disappears from the Device Manager.

I don't know what I did to get the card to be recognized again on my machine, but it came back so I did the driver installs again. Stock Clevo first, then to the updated Nvidia drivers. I thought it had something to do with my Power Options, and maybe Optimus messing it up. But I'm not sure what the issue was.

No problems for about a day, until the GPU disappears again. This time, I boot into Safe Mode, and uninstall the Nvidia drivers to just install the Clevo stock drivers. Got the same "can't find compatible hardware" error again. And again, I don't know what I did to make the GPU reappear to my machine, but it did, and I just installed the Clevo drivers. I'm gonna check later today to see if it messes up again.

Now, the new problem I have is that none of my games will use the discrete GPU. Games like Grid 2, and Bioshock Infinite use the integrated Intel GPU only. I was able to run these games on the Nvidia card successfully before all this mess happened. I've tried setting up the profiles under the Nvidia Control Panel, but to no avail. The Nvidia card is still visible under my Device Manager, so it hasn't disappeared. Yet.

Anybody else experiencing these problems with their GPU?

^ Had that problem for a little while and then it went away. I don't really remember if I changed much.

Mess around with startup settings and in msconfig do a selective or diagnostic startup.

Yeah, I rebooted into Safe Mode, and tried to look in the Event Log for anything that was flagged as a GPU problem, but I couldn't find anything. I don't know how the machine loses the dGPU, and it just reappears again for no reason. If the problem happens again, then I'll do another reinstall and just keep the stock Clevo drivers to see if the same problem persists.

Anybody else have the same issue?

I had some glitchy dGPU behaviour in Windows 8.1 (transferred over from W110ER) and a fresh install of Windows 7.

The problems with Windows 7 only appeared for a couple of reboots, but somehow I have the feeling fiddling with the power settings helped.

Could you try setting your power profile to high performance and rebooting, then trying MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z to see if they recognize the Nvidia chip?

I am deciding to settle on this laptop over the MSI ge40, but before I order from XoticPC I was wondering if someone could share intel on how necessary it is to install a modded BIOS to get rid of the loud fan problem. Also how difficult is it to get Nvidia Optimus to perform correctly and switch to iGPU when word processing or web browsing? I want to get as much battery life as possible when in class, and reviews have been saying that the dGPU has some trouble turning off. I am not very experienced with BIOS modifications, and have never even touched the BIOS of the pc I built.
    Thanks in advance. :)

Check your power options, advanced power options, click "change settings that are currently unavailable" and under display check for "enable adaptive brightness" and turn it off.

    Otherwise not sure.

I think the issue was with Windows 8.1. I reinstalled the OS, and only installed the stock drivers. So far, I've had no problems, I was able to undervolt the CPU, and run some benchmarks without the dGPU disappearing on me. I was also able to perform tests while connecting to another monitor. I noticed that the system would restart unexpectedly when connecting a secondary display in my prior installs. I also haven't updated the Nvidia drivers, yet.

Overall, I don't know exactly what the problem was, but it's working okay now. I'll keep everyone posted if I experience this issue again.

Thanks for all the replies, and the help.

Did anyone else get the Intel N-135 WiFi card with their laptop?

On Win 8 it was using the up to date 16.x intel drivers and was working fine however since upgrading to 8.1 ive been having the usual disconnects that others have seen. Seems that there isnt a 16.x driver out for 8.1 yet, only the older 15.x drivers.

Anyone had any luck with fixes yet?

I had some disconnections when getting out of standby at first, now it's fine can't say what did it.
I'm using 15.x driver by microsoft, but I think there is a 16.1.3 or 16.1.5 driver too.
Not sure if I'm willing to risk the update though =)

Just noticed I get a STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE for intel screen sound or something like that (it's in french here)

Afraid that the 16.x drivers wont install, they are only for Windows 8, no 8.1. : /

Im guessing that its a waiting game for Intel to release the newer drivers.

Hi guys, I have a question regarding getting audio to output through my TV speakers when connected with HDMI. It's not doing it automatically when connected, nor can I find the option in playback options with show disabled devices enabled.

Any suggestions? Video is outputting correctly. Going to Display on Second Screen still outputs audio through my laptop, and not my TV, with no options besides Speakers showing up (even with show disabled devices enabled).

    Thanks!

In Device-Manager under Audio- Video- and Gamecontroller, is there an Intel(R) Display Audio device? It should be the device managing the hdmi audio interface. If not, make sure all Intel chipset & gfx drivers are installed

Yea, Intel(R) Display Audio shows up under "Sounds, video and game controllers" in my Device Manager. I installed all Drivers for my Clevo from here: Software Upgrade

There were 10 or so drivers I installed.

Ok, interestingly enough, I switched to Second Screen Only, and sound is outputting to the TV, when it wasn't doing that three hours ago when I checked the first time. However, now sound from whatever source I select is playing 1.5x/2x the speed: Spotify, Youtube, Netflix. So I'm guessing there is a driver issue somewhere. Also, it shows SHARP HDMI as the Audio device. I'm on a LG TV.

Then, when I go back to Extend or PC Screen only, SHARP HDMI disappears, and going back to Second Screen Only has it disappeared and volume is back to outputting to my speakers.

No idea about that extended thing, but the "laggy" sound may be fixed by changing output-format to this device. Can be found when doubleclicking on that SHARP HDMI thing on the Advanced-Tab.

    Our TV is occupied at the moment, but I'll try connecting my clevo to it later and see if I run into similar problems;

Edit/Update: Just tested it. Works flawlessly, no matter if duplicating, extending or only using the HDMI device, the audio device gets recognized as long the TV-Screen is in use. Switching through all modes caused no problems.

Maybe try to get the updated Intel-Graphics driver (which include the Audio-Device driver) https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Se...hics+4600&ProdId=3720&LineId=1101&FamilyId=39

I'm looking into buying one of these from XOTICPC at the moment. Does anyone know how much a i7-4702MQ upgrade would cost over the i5-4200M? Also, does anyone recommend buying it from another reseller?

Is there a difference between getting a sata ssd vs a msata one? I only need 1 240gb SSD in total, but the SATA one is much cheaper. I could install my own, but the SATA ssd seems to be cheaper if I don't buy it separately. o_O

i would say buy it from a seller who is located in your country , also i am guessing you wanna put a HDD in there for storage, if that is the case you only have the option of the Msata ssd as the Sata ssd will take up the slot for the HDD you may be planning to put in there if it makes any sense lol

...By the way thanks HT that solved the problem of the dimming but i am still getting almost regular in game crashes...most times my laptop restarts but sometimes it just crashes the game, very...

It comes down to available bays, if you want a mech HDD in there too then you will want the mSATA as it leaves the 2.5" bay free. Otherwise it makes no difference.

I may have another problem with my Chaos 1313, and wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing

I wanted to ask everyone how they turn on their laptop when on battery power?

For me, if the laptop is plugged in, then I just press the power button, and everything boots up normally. If I'm on battery power only, then I have to hold the power button down until I get to the BIOS screen. If I let go of the button at any time, then the laptop won't boot.

It's like it loses power before it can get to the BIOS. Also, whenever I boot with the battery, my power options automatically go to "High Performance" mode.

Does anybody else experience the same problem, or is this just the way the laptop works? I would appreciate any thoughts on this, and maybe a fix if it's not operating normally.

    Thanks again!

Guys I'm stuck. What should I get in terms of gaming performance? FPS wise?

    Lenovo y510p
    GT 750m sli

    or

    W230st
    gtx 765m

I haven't seen any solid conclusions.

The 765M has obvious benefits over the 750M SLI setup. For a system with gaming as the higher priority then the 765M is the clear winner in every department.

Heheh, just overclock the 765m :)
I'm pretty sure it can at least match the effective (excluding runt frames) performance of the 750m SLI. And HT already has the scores to substantiate.
    (Even when both are OC'd)

But really, if you prioritise only gaming performance, get a desktop. Period.

I think he means both meet the portability requirements but is not sure which is the better gaming machine.

And yes if you take overclocking into account the 765M is effectively underclocked at stock.....

I would look at some games you plan on playing and check out their performance on both set ups. Sometimes 2x 750M gets better FPS other times the 765M does, it depends on the game and engine its using.

Also dont forget that with SLI you are loosing the DVD drive which can be used to put another hard drive inside. That way you can have an SSD+HDD setup which is awesome.

I would prefer to rely on 1 card, its less variables and things to worry about; if the performance is so close already, just go with 1 card.

Just joined the club boys with a Sager NP7330 equipped with an i7-4700MQ, 128gb msata, and 750gb storage.
Installed Iobit Start Menu, latest Nvidia driver, and had Diablo 3 at max settings and 1920x1080p up pretty quickly.

It is a beautiful screen - but got 2 stuck pixels that won't undead pixel out or massage out only on black.

Seems to idle at max gpu clocks too - a known bios issue.

I'll get to reading all 280 pages of this thread, but:
    1) is there any video or pics on how to open the lcd cover to replace the screen if I want in the future (screen ~ $120), and
    2) are there any official bios from Clevo or Sager that addresses the idle issue ( I think Prema has some mod bios)

LOL eBay will be seeing my barely used mint Clevo W110ER pretty soon...

How much u selling the 110 for? I like my w230st but I miss the 11' form factor for my job. I don't play mine as much as I thought I would. At the right price I might sell mine and buy yours.

Any idea if the w230st could possibly go on sale for black friday? Looking to pick one up, but was hoping the price wouldn't be so high after upgrades + taxes. :\

Edit: Any advice/opinions on resellers for US? Looking at Xoticpc, lpcdigital, prostar, and powernotebooks. They all pretty much have the same price. x.x

Gonna see how the 3 on eBay sell for in a couple of days.
Mint, used about a week, bought from Cyberpowerpc with no dead pixels added.
Upgraded ram to 2x4gb Samsung low voltage ddr3 1600 gaming ram.
    120gb SSD.
Been collecting dust after a week's use due to the fact I picked up a 2560x1440 ips monitor a week later LOL.

I wouldn't use ebay.. the fees are just rediculous, they took over £100 when I sold my W110ER not very long ago.
