I've experienced that when I resize for instance Chrome it "laggs" and the same when I resize other applications.

Am I the only one? I recorded what it looks like here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1z9ol88msb7jlr4/Screen.wmv

Tried installing new drivers for both nVidia and Intel but no difference. Something else that I noticed as well, that might be relevant to the same issue is that when I run Virtual Machines in VMWare and for instance watch a video in my Host OS it sometimes "stutters" like it can't get the data processed by the CPU.

With all the issues that I have had with my machine I am afraid that there's something else wrong with it..

this is the website redimensioning, there's nothing wrong with that as far as I know.
never really saw a need to play with this though.

I have an i5-4200m that I will publish results of testing this weekend. It will remain at 3.0GHz (max speed with two cores w/hyperhtreading active) when fully taxed. Temps aren't that much lower than the quad cores though, maybe 5-6C in general.

Really? Power Saver, backlit keyboard OFF, make sure you don't have a temp monitoring software running because it will activate your dedicated GPU. Use the nVidia indicator under nVidia Control Panel "Desktop" pull down "Display GPU activity icon in the Notification Area" to make sure it's not activating. I get 3.5-4.0 hours realistic battery life with surfing.

I know that the elements on the website is redimensioning, it's my website. What I find odd though is that the web-browser is "lagging" in the UI Rendering.. Maybe it is just Chromes rendering that sucks. But I do find it to be the same in other programs as well when I for instance resize them.

Pls do HTwing, can you test the i5-4200m first without undervolting or using props then your results with temps and battery life?

    Thanks

It wont be too different, the core will be even smaller so the power density will be similar.

How about testing it for us Meaker since you have all the connections w/ powernotebooks instead of just saying it will be similar so it will be irrefutable, maybe you can tell us why we are getting such mediocre battery life and cpu spiking all the way to 99c seconds after firing up a game. We shouldn't undervolt or use props anyway to make it work, if we had to do those then either Clevo/Sager messed up with their design or it's just some are bad batches with bad contacts on the heatsinks or bad pastejob or just a design flaw defect.

So I discovered the headphone whine problem as discussed here previously: If you plug - in a wired mouse/some other wired device on the left USB 2.0 port, the headphones produce a screeching sound. If you press on the left side of the laptop (where the stickers are), the whine is gone. I am guessing something is not seating flush. Don't have tools here, so can't open it up, but I hope it will be an easy fix. Minor problem though, don't wanna scare potential buyers off, still a great machine :D.

However, I noticed that the sound/image lags/stuters sometimes when I watch Netflix. I don't know if it is due to bad drivers or bad hardware..

Nope, but I'm using the 7260-AC btw.
No issues other than airplane mode not being supported, which is not a bother since I can manually toggle airplane mode... which I only do in extremely rare occasions.
It runs quite well, though I'm unused to the search function being less efficient (in finding stuff on my computer rather than on the net)

Yup, definitely a bad paste job. Or the vent's being blocked. Or both.
Even in Singapore, with the hot weather and all, my CPU temps don't go past 80 degrees unless I'm using prime95, with or without undervolt.

it's very easy since most things are directly accessible once the bottom cover is removed.
but I'm not sure it will help much, 90°c when gaming seems quite normal to me, and the fan burst is a known issue that clevo needs to address.
let us know if it helped.

Ah okay, this was only a 20 minute session but the laptop wasnt onna flat surface, on my lap on a duvet. Ill give it a good couple of hours gaming on a flat surface and see how high the temp goes. What thermal would you recommend? The shops near me only have arctic silver 5 and arctic mx 2, on the internet I could obviously prder mx-4 or anything you recommend really.

That's normal for BF3. Prop up back, use Intel XTU and reduce CPU to 3GHz and voltage down by 50-100mv, and limit FPS to 50-60 using nVidiaInspector. Temps are 90-92C then.

    Hey Guys,

I have had a W230ST for several weeks now and had been running it without problems. Today I added an mSATA card to the machine and updated to windows 8.1. Everything seems good minus some problems that have already been discussed here. I had the secure boot problem and fixed it with an earlier posted solution. My big issue now is that the 765M has disappeared from device manager. I attempted to reinstall drivers from both the included disk and the sager website, but they wouldn't install because the hardware wasn't detected. I entered the bios and noticed the 765M is listed, but the vBIOS is listed as N/A. Any ideas as to what could have happened and what I can do? Already tried another clean install and it didn't work. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I had the problem of my gtx 765m not appearing too after installing windows 8.1. I solved this by installing the newest driver from the nvidia website. Strangely enough, it said that the driver could not be installed because no gpu was detected, but after a reboot, it installed just fine.

Nop, a normal time would be between 5 & 10s if you only use SSDs. Not much more using HDD.
Airplane mode not working is normal though.

Hey guys, I posted a few days ago about losing power when on battery. I haven't seen any responses here yet -- maybe I missed one? Anyway, bottom line is that once it drops below about 48%-50% on battery, it just loses power and won't turn on again until I plug it in.

I contacted Hawkforce (the German reseller I bought it from) but I haven't heard back yet. It's clearly a pretty small operation, so I figure they could be on vacation or something, but I'd like to get this resolved sooner rather than later. Should I contact Clevo directly? I've never had a "small brand" laptop like this before, so I'm not really sure what to expect...

Hey Mattstermh, Well as one of those who played the beta, all i can say is that it played the beta very well on high we were getting between 30-40 fps and with specific BF4 drivers i am sure it will be perfect with this laptop, it is being released on the 29th so will give more feed back then :D

Hello everyone, sorry if this issue has already been discussed but ive done some research and it's hard to look through 100 pages...

I'd like to report my experience, being an owner of a fantastic w230st with an 4702MQ (37W) cpu. It has so far never disappointed me except for a tiny thing (the screen is a bit glossy, it would have been better if it had been left like ips standards, very matte pastel) and another quite bothering issue which is now driving me a bit crazy: the fan noise.

Indeed to me it's not really a matter of temperatures but fan noise.. it gets really loud when i play heavy games like battlefield and if im using the microphone while im skyping and gaming the noise is very disturbing to the other party... (ok this could be solved with the use of external headsets...) but anyways , this is what i have done so far>

    1) Downloaded INTEL XTU tool and monitored stock temperatures to be around 65c idle and 85c hardcore playing. I noticed there are 4 automatic levels of fan : low mid mid-high and high... low and mid and barely noticeable .. but when it gets to mid high and hig it's so loud...

    2) Bought Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra and applied the liquid paste..

    3) Re monitored temperatures and they are now around 5c lower.. which is giving me a very tiny margin at least for not having a mid - high fan automatically starting most of the times even in windows desktop by running some multi tasking stuff and media...

However the problem during gaming is still there, and I am not sure how to solve that terrible noise.

Of course i know that by lowering temperatures further or undervolting the cpu may reduce the fan as well.. but now i first would like to know from you a couple of things : have anyone had any experience with that liquid thermal paste ? is it really as good as many people claim ? or at least is it good for this type of laptop ? Should i try out another type of paste ? (consider that i don't have a budget issue ... i could pay another 50 or 100 dollars if that could really lower temperatures further.. but obviosuly i dont want to compromise portability so im not up for installing an external mod of water cooling or other crazy stuff..)

And apart from the paste, which XTU profile do you suggest , for my cpu type ? maybe you could point me to download a good profile for changing multipliers and voltage... ? Consider that I dont mind compromising a some of the performances (which are even too much .. i dont really need them for daily use just time to time gaming)

Well thank you so much if you could advise me something wise... without compromising the life span of my cpu of course..

THANK YOU really , and greetings from italy.

I sincerely hope you're right about the battery -- I really don't want to have to round-trip the whole unit to get it serviced... if they can just send me a battery and I can return my old one, I'll be thrilled. I might try calling today.

ETA: Called, he said to email my address and he'll send out a battery. I'm mad at myself for taking this long, because apparently the warranty on the battery is only 6 months -- if I'd put it off much longer it would have been on my own dime! (This has been happening since I got the thing, but I wasn't sure what was going on until it had happened a half-dozen times...)

I own the clevo w230st for 1 month now. Not a single problem detected till today:

when i use the keyboard to type an article for my study I hear a super annoying resonating sound. Like something is loose or something. Even when I press a button really slow and hold it down, I still hear it.

anyone knows how to fix this?

    Made a short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFwsCe9T6aw
