You can check the manufacturers site and use their latest drivers if you have any of the upgrade options like Killer or Intel. If you have the stock wireless card the best one is the one directly from Sager.

327.23 installed okay, can't game now, will update later whether any frame rate increase has been achieved.

I'm sorry for the font size, I was messing around with the font because the text was a little small and hard to see when I type a long message. It is definitely not the fan because when that happened, I tried to hear it careful and it definitely doesn't sound like a fan hitting anything. I even opened up the bottom cover to check if the fan is loose or not spinning right and it is normal. One thing I notice just now is that last night I forgot to unplug the charger and this morning when I turn on the system, the sound near the speaker didn't start, so I'm guessing there is something related to power consumption right here that might be related to the noise I'm talking about

I just don't want to receive a new system and get the same issue if this is the way it is designed. Therefore any of your input is appreciated. Just pay attention after fan spin up and down and you can see. In my knowledge, this sort of problem only happened with old motherboard, I hope they not using cheap quality motherboard for these systems to be honest

The sound could be electronic buzz from the power electronics. Does it change as you change the loading of the CPU/GPU?

I don't think it get louder when more work is done on CPU/GPU. Usually in idle when fan spin lightly I can hear it once for each few seconds, it sounds like a frog, like a discharging sound, robotic/electric. When fan stop after idle, it stop. When fan at full load, the fan sound usually dominate this sound but if i put my ear next to the left palm rest near the vent exhaust I can hear it, and after the fan slow down from that full blast I can hear it more and more clearly. Now I know it exist, i hear it all the time. The thing is, my last laptop is thinkpad that I use for 6 years, old technology there, but I never experienced anything like this, it make me worried that something is not electronically right about the motherboard

As I mentioned way up there, I opened the service cover to check if the fan is loose or might hitting something, it didn't

Might be a slight bearing issue from the fan.

I occasionally get the speaker popping sound when starting/shutting down. No issues with fan (none that I can notice anyways).

I dont think it is fan issue, at least in term of fan hitting or stuck because i try to spin it to check and it normal, also when it is spin at full blast, it sound smooth. Since fan, CPU, GPU are right next to one another, it's hard to narrow down which one is causing the noise

@Rockin_Zombie: I first thought it is the speaker too, but this is another noise beside the speaker thing. I'm thinking a non-proper ground motherboard can cause the noise like this. I'm asking the company I bought the laptop from test other systems they have, they told me they will report to Clevo if they can reproduce this

That's pretty simple, when it does that sound, manually stop the fan. If the sound stops, then it's the fan.
Mine does a small sound when it's on an inclined plane, nothing really noticeable though.
Yet, will probably try to open it up sometime.

I can tell you that after the fan stop, that sound stop too, but it can't be that simple, the fan work if It got electricity, what if the problem is electric wire go into the fan or from the source that goes into the fan, or might be it is the way system is designed. I don't want to be picky but if it is capacitor/motherboard thing then I ought to get replacement immediately, that's why I need help. Please spend your time to monitor this. This is not a one minute test, any input to this would be so appreciated

I've been looking into picking up a new w230st to replace my aging sony vaio z, the one thing keeping me back from buying it is the battery life. Has anyone been able to get any improvement in battery life with undervolting the cpu or custom bios?

You will get between 2.5-4 hours of battery life on this thing under light usage if you do the undervolting thing

It is that simple, there is no need to spend time on this.
If the sound stop when you stop the fan, it is NOT the motherboard, and it is the fan.
If you stop the fan manually, nothing changes in regard to electricity.
Don't waste your time and either fix that fan or ask for a replacement ;)

In the options of afterburner, you can activate the rtss module by checking the things you want to see at "active hardware monitoring graphs" and checking "show in onscreen display" to have it enabled as overlay 3d in applications. Next you go to the sensors tab in HWiNFO64, -->configure -->OSD--> pick the values you want and check "show value in osd". Now you should see all values in the upper left corner in games.

When I rebooted the computer and started a visual studio update the temps went up in the sky, doesn't the temps look awfully high for just normal usage? Or is this OK temps for the 4900MQ?

I don't have any paste, so which one should I buy?

I had the laptop on a 35 degree angel cooling pad and when I removed that and just put it on the table, undervolted -50mV I am now at around 82c when stressing it. Weird, but seems a lot better than 100c..

According to the most thorough testing I've seen, this test, any thermal paste will work just fine for most applications. Just make sure it is non-conductive so you don't have to worry about spill over. I like Artic Silver 5 and have used it for years. I would suggest whichever of the "A" rated ones they tested you can get the cheapest that is described as "low/thin" viscosity as they are easier to apply. Also get some way to clean the old paste off, isopropyl alcohol is what I used to use, before I got ArtiClean 2 part cleaning solution, which is a citrus based cleaner and an isopropyl based surface purifier.

So i just got one of these notebooks and got a screen with a bunch of dead pixels on it.

Has anyone tried taking apart their notebook and how difficult would it be to replace the LCD? Going to call reflex notebook tomorrow morning and try and get it sorted out, but i don't really want to ship the notebook back and wait several weeks for them to do something.

Just got my chaos 13 and while i've only downloaded vlc to play startrek into the darkness, I'm very happy with this little beast.

One question for anybody/everybody. What is the best/smallest/coolest (temp wise) car charger adapter for this system.?

    This okay ==>. http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-Charger-Adapter-Toshiba-Satellite/dp/tech-data/B004XW9LCE/ref=de_a_smtd

    Would this be better option.

Curious, what is your stabilized CPU speed (i.e. after 2-3 minutes) with Prime95?

Also, as a general note, I have modded the bottom cover to open it up, and it made little to no difference in temperature. Putting a fan with a fairly strong airflow helped a little bit, but the cooling seems pretty well contained within the enclosed system it has. I don't think there's much we can do to improve temperatures physically other than an actual cooler underneath it, like refrigerated air blowing on it.

Can someone with a techinferno account please grab the service manual from their forums. They have a 5 post minimum to download the manual and have mod approved posts. I need to know how difficult it is to replace the LCD befor contacting reflex notebook, hopefully they can just ship me a replacement panel, so I can service it myself.

Ha! Mine looked 100% the same too. Got mine from Schenker (mysn, Germany). They will switch my display, when it is back on stock.

I was wondering the same. You have to click the symbol, not the "button". Is that what you mean? It´s really strange in my opinion.

Try FN+ESC or search for the little Notebook symbol in the task bar.

But I just checked again and it's back. I don't know what happened, will monitor it from time to time hehe

But the replacement should be pretty easy in my opinion, just remove the frame, unscrew, unplug, replug, screw back, put the frame back, done.

This is after 5 minutes of Prime95. The multipliers change between 26x and 25x.

Interestingly, I had a few of those only in pitch black image. I youtubed screen pixel fixer and ran overnight, believe it or not, its gone! Try it if someone else have the same issue, and you don't want to send it back atm.

Jep, that option you´ll find in the afterburner part. I´m currently monitoring GPU Clock+Temp, vRAM Clock, FPS, vRAM Usage and fps via Afterburner and CPU Clock+Temp, CPU TDP and usage via HWiNFO.

    Borderlands2_2013_09_20_17_26_32_445.jpg

It´s similiar at my Hawkforce Scorpio W230ST, exept the "pixels" are blue. I´m not so sure if these are dead pixels because this is only slightly visible on a complete black screen on mine.

    IMG_20130920_173902_118_1.jpg

As said its only visible on a complete black image AND not even nearly as heavy as my smartphonecam shot it, especially not from a normal viewing distance like 30-40cm.

I´ve bought an universal car adapter for my w860cu years ago. It let´s you switch to full voltages only (like 19.0V, 20.0V) but seems its not bothering the w230st. I used it when gaming on the way to this years gamescom an worked just fine at 19V. For my previous portable gaming companion (m11x r3) i had to buy a special adapter because it wouldnt charge with the universal one and throttle to K6-2 performance...

Ok I think I figured this out. After updating to the latest nVidia driver, Speedfan will show that the GPU is at 0 degrees when it is not in active use. As soon as I start up a game like Borderlands, the GPU temp starts reading properly. I am assuming this is some weirdness with the Optimus technology and the new driver software.

Games seem to be running fine although I was getting a bit of stuttering in Borderlands 2 that I feel wasn't there with the old Clevo default driver. Could be placebo though.

Hmon made me the same thing sometimes (not related to actual use), gpu temp = 0°, while realtemp was reading it just fine.

    Here you go:

I have a slight issue with hdmi : no audio device through hdmi unless I start the OS with the cable plugged in.
As soon as I unplug the cable, I lose the audio device until I restart. I'll try to update a few drivers when possible, in the meantime I'd appreciate any idea =)

I have an Optimus stumper for ya. I'm playing Bookworm Adventures, bought on Steam. In the GPU status tray icon, it says the dGPU is active because of "popcapgame1.exe", which (according to Process Explorer) is running out of "C:\ProgramData\Popcap Games\WinBAD\". When I manually add this to the Optimus control panel, it tells me "the file is in use" in the Open dialog -- of course it's in use, that's the point! But here's the worst part -- if I close the game, the file *disappears*. ? I'm assuming the actual game is unpacked here during the DRM process, or something. Has anybody run into this before? Some kind of permissions issue? Is there some registry entry I can make manually to work around this?

What is the best way to keep fingerprints off this thing?

How about cleaning the lid? A simple damp cloth doesn't seem to get rid of fingerprints on the lid (for those of you that don't have it, the plastic lid is made of a cool looking matte space-age material that is very sleek when clean but will pick up a fingerprint better than any other material I've ever seen).

I think i get away with it, like someone said before... every machine has it´s issues, theres no such thing like a perfect laptop. For me the positive aspects overweight the negative ones greatly, so im not willing to send this thing back and wait for a replacement several weeks. I think i´ll run one of these dead-pixel-repair-videos from youtube till i´m back from work today, see what happens. if the little blue "cloud" is gone it would be amazing, if not, well... f**k it ;)

I for myself ripped off my custom printed gears of war laptopskin from my old w860cu and pasted it back on the 230st, looks great for me, sticks very well and fingerprints arent hat much visible as before, although its glossy.

Let me know how it goes, my "cloud" was very small to begin with, from your picture it looks like your one is very small too. Anyways, this is a very weird issue, like for mine, even in all black backgrounds it won't show up, like on the boot screen it doesn't show up. If you open up paint and draw a full black image, and full screen it, and look from a particular angle, and LOOK for it, only then you can see it. Doesn't show up with any other color.

You are right, this is definitely not worth sending back for. The next machine might have a few dead pixels, which IMO is FAR worse, hate looking at those white dead pixels :p. OR it might have the fan rattling issue, who knows. I am happy with mine, and lucky that the pixel fixer worked, hope it'll work for you too!

HTWingnut, anyway you can link me to that modified VBIOS you used for OC and OV? Can't find anything on TI yet, I have been pushing +135 MHZ comfortably with no temperature woes, wanna get a little adventurous :D. I
