Ok got BF3 working.
The sound on this machine is a bit subpar. I have speakers and a subwoofer that when my last laptop connected to sounded amazing. When I plug them into my W230ST, it sounds a little fuzzy, not nearly as good as my old laptop.
Does this have to do with the sound card? Am I missing some file?

The bass is entirely nonexistent...

COH2 Temps
I thought I'd try running this without the cooling pad or propping up the back at all for 45 mins and see what my temps are. I've got the 4700 chip, and have not messed with voltage. The ambient room temperature is about 70F
COH Setting: I did't run anything to check FPS, but things ran smooth on the small map I was playing. It was a 1v1 match.

^Headphone jack.
Been playing BF3 for 45 mins @ 1600x900 and the temps have no exceed 86C (playing on a zalman notebook cooler)
Edit: just reached 88 -
Well, it finally came today. Only took about a week to get here after ordering from LPC.
It came in about the most generic box (inside the Sager box) for a laptop possible. I was happy to see that they used recyclable foam instead of styrofoam in the packaging.
Didn't come with a Chicony PSU. Delta Electronics instead.
Came with plastic protecting the screen and the camera.
The first thing I did before I powered on was to take off the back cover. I was surprised to find that all three screws had blue threadlock on them.
Two sticks of 4GB Samsung RAM, standard.
Intel 7260 AC wireless card.
Someone in another thread commented on the bend in the heat pipes. Here's a picture of mine.
So far I really like it. I still am getting it set up with my programs, games, etc. but the keyboard and the screen are very nice. The touchpad is OK. Still getting used to it as I've never had a laptop before.
Still haven't done any thorough testing of temps, audio quality, etc. Can't hear any bass from the speakers, but wasn't expecting much from the tiny things.
I've overclocked the vRAM 500 mHz for now. Thanks goes out to HTWingnut for finding the real stock frequency for it. I'll let you guys know if I have any instability.
I've also undervolted the CPU ~90 mV and will do some stress testing eventually to see how stable it is.
So far I'm very pleased. The only issue I can find is the crazy fan profile. When I turn it on it bumps up to full speed for a few seconds and then throttles back down. I'm also hearing a rattling sound, exactly like a mechanical hard drive at work, but I can't tell if that is the fan or my mechanical HDD right now since I'm doing a sync of my Dropbox folder.
Oh yeah, still need to get a cooling pad. The Cooler Master X-Slim looks great except for the USB port design - it looks like it'll stick out a lot with some sharp metal edges. Can someone who has it comment on this? Thanks.
Edit: Fan rattling is definitely not the HDD. It is the fan. Goes away at high speeds, strangely enough. I really don't know if I should return it for this or not. -

When I got mine it came with 2 little black foamy's What were those for?
-
-
Could you guys give dimensions (and weight if possible) of your PSU ?
Looks like at least 2 of them are being shipped, with different dimensions. -
Think i remember someone stating that audio through the jack was benefited through the removal of the audio blaster software, worth a try.
-
Edit: never mind. Delta specs already posted. -
How does your fan sound? Does it make a mechanical rattling sound like a hard drive? -

I have located a single dead pixel however...I paid for the dead pixel guarantee, so...
Also, I've noticed that about the last half centimetre at the bottom (horizontally) of the touchpad doesn't register. If I go to the touchpad properties, it doesn't even register that I'm scrolling over that area - it's a complete dead zone. Can anyone else confirm whether their touchpad has a deadzone along the bottom of the touchpad?

For those having Windows7 issues, feel free to PM me for help as I've had mine fully setup for about a week now with everything installed as you would under Windows 8 and it definitely took some tinkering to get there.
I OC'd my vram +500mhz and have been playingTomb Raider, Mortal Kombat 9, Rogue Legacy, BioShock Infinite, and Company of Heroes 2 several hours each night without any issues at all. If you guys are going to OC the gpu I would highly recommend a cooling pad although not fully necessary if you prop the back up. For those wondering, all those games were played in 1920x1080 res with various graphical settings - medium, high, ultra depending on the game. -

Thanks for the pictures, uwwmatt.

Ok so i bought this Msata Mushkin atlas 240gb but the bios doesnt recognize it. I want to install W7 on it but cant do it, Any ideas why? Im new to how msata works and i only see dell people having such problems.

Does anyone have a perfect screen? (mine was super hard to spot but it was bad)
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
No problems with my screen as far as pixels or bruising. I have some minor light bleed in the lower left but it isn't distracting.
I have no issues with my fan. -

MK9 is so much fun on this machine!!!
Pics to come... -
It seems like Mythlogic is making some modifications to their w230st's? Mine has been stuck on QA and Test for almost five days now and this wait is killing me! It makes me wonder what they are doing to theirs (hopefully fixing some of the issues others are having). I have to admit, I would be pretty bummed out to have to wait this long and still get the same problems as some of the other retailers.
-
-
I hoping the cooling solution from Mythlogic is better than what I've been hearing about other brands so that I don't have to repaste the heatsink. If so, I have Prolimatech paste that works very good. Other than that, I hope that this laptop is rock solid. Based on what I've heard from their customers, there should be no issues. -
^^If that's the case, I'm assuming his machine will have significantly cooler temps than the rest of us.
-
Is there a formal way to test for dead pixels/spots some people are reporting?
-

Bought mine from Xoticpc. Can anyone confirm if their msata port works with a mushkin 240gb msata ssd? I tried both ports and failed to recognize either on windows 7 install or bios. Going to return the msata tomorrow, hopefully the next one works.

-
Yeah, hopefully Prema can help us with a BIOS fix. -
If I decide to upgrade to Windows 8, should I do an upgrade or a fresh install? I don't want any driver conflicts.
-
I guess I spoke too soon because my status updated to "Ready to ship"! Hopefully it gets here by the end of the week.

On a German forum a user shows his cooling mod for the Clevo W370ST with additional small passive heat sinks.
He claims a temperature reduction from 74-82 °C to 65 °C under full load. I wonder if this will also work on the W230ST.

Hey,
Can you guys describe/share a pic of this "bruising"/"dime-sized" thing on the screen? I know someone posted a pic of it a while back, but I'm not sure if I was looking at the right thing. Can you highlight it with a circle on MS Paint or something? Thx! -

It seems the other clevo has different dimensions: 413(W)x 277.5(D)x 17.5~44 (H)mm.
Also, if it can be done with thermal pads like they did (google translate), then it should be really easy. -
I just don't "get" this mod from a physics standpoint. Yes, you're initially radiating some extra heat away, but then where does it go? The tight-fitting (and unventilated) underside of the laptop is going to keep almost all of the radiated heat from escaping. Very soon, you're simply re-heating the heatsinks - and you're back to where you started.
Without some way to rapidly exhaust the radiated heat from those extra heatsinks, you're rapidly going to reach the same equilibrium temp as before. Ultimately, the limiting factors are:
1. Efficiency of heat transfer from the CPU/GPU to the heatsink and on to the heat pipes (example: better thermal interface material).
2. Efficiency of heat transfer through the heatpipe to the radiator assembly (ex: make a larger heatpipe).
3. Efficiency of the fan blowing across the radiator assembly (ex: make the fan blow harder and/or improve the radiator surface area/efficiency).
Improving efficiency in some or all of these 3 areas would seem to be the only way to actually remove heat from the system. Temporarily removing heat does nothing in the end.
-
Maybe there is some air being exhausted that is not being considered (vents probably?)
Besides, what you're saying would apply in a thermally isolated space, I think some of the heat will be reflected on the surface temperatures, like keyboard probably. I don't think it will be much though. -
Incidentally, I tried undervolting my 48000MQ. At -70mV it is stable, but at -90mV it would BSOD (I was worried if I'd be able to ever boot into windows again - Intel XTU won't run in safe mode!). At -70MV, temps are about 3C lower than at stock, which is nice.
