Can anyone play watch dogs on this laptop without getting this?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kWK9S-4u5M

Looks like it only effects Maxwell cards, so IDK if it's an nvidia issue or UBI issue.

People that post about this have a 750 series desktop card or the 860m laptop card... My desktop plays this game fine, now if my laptop could play it without this glitch it would be amazing... It runs on high between 35-45fps.

Does anyone know what the stock WiFi card is in this notebook from Xotic? Is it dual band? Intel?

Hey guys, I have a quick question before I pull the trigger on the W230SS.
Is it possible to span a 2.5 inch SSD and a mSATA SSD into a single volume?

You should be able to put them into a RAID 0 array. Try to make them the same size though, otherwise you'll lose the difference between the two. Once you get Windows (assuming that'll be your OS) and Intel RST installed, you can add a third drive to the array also.

My setup is two 480GB mSATA in RAID 0 plus a 512GB SSD added after the install.

In Linux this is ridiculously easy, just use LVM :). In Windows... everything is a pain in the lol.

Found out about this model only yesterday... now I'm really interested... few questions to the owners:

Have any of you had (or have) the Alienware 14? My biggest problem with that laptop was the screen brightness... is this one a lot better?

2nd, I read in the review these come with Chi Mei screens... the last Chi Mei I had was the 1720 and the matte coating was just unbearable... how is the matte coating on this? Did you notice it at first and then get used to it, or was never a problem from the beginning?

Pretty much I liked EVERYTHING about the Alienware 14 except the screen brightness, and since I stare at it the whole time I use it, I had to get rid of it. The matte coating on that screen was fine to me.

I have such a big problem finding a good screen these days...

How responsive are everyones power buttons? Mine need considerable force beyond the click to respond, are they designed this way or is failure likely in the near future? I'm going to have to send my P304 back anyway to replace the screen which was damaged on arrival and it would be nice to get any problems out of the way at the same time...

You can always request they check it out and see what they think, if it's going back anyway there is no harm in that.

    Yeah, I guess.

I'm not sure what you find problematic about it, I have not had a matte screen before and I absolutely love it due to the seriously diminished reflections.

It's usually an option within the flashing tool. Prema also lists stock images though they would not have any shop logos etc.

Funny you should mention that - I've noticed the same (or similar) thing. Quite often I find I have to press and hold down the power button for a moment to power up after it not happening on the first attempt, and also that I have to press the power button quite 'deep' if that makes sense. I'm hoping this does not worsen..

My middle USB 3.0 port is not working correctly. It works fine plugging in my portable USB 3.0 2TB Western Digital drive, yet it does not detect my iPad in iTunes or my LG G2 Android phone in MTP or PTP modes.

I can't think of how to fix this, it must be a problem with the motherboard? It wasn't like this when I first received the laptop.

Mysterion - My power button is also hard to press. I wish it was easier, but then again, if it is more reliable having a hard one, I prefer reliability.

Finally found a way to get around this. Uninstalled the Synaptics drivers from the Sager driver disk via Remove Programs, then installed an older Synaptics driver which happened to have an option to disable the edge swipe.

    Drivers here: Drivers | Synaptics

Finally the touchpad is actually usable on these laptops now!

so I finally got mine from servicing under Cyberpower and they've stated that changing the wireless card fixed my issue with 7260ac dropping connection constantly and it indeed has stopped. Also just wanted to add I too have noticed above quoted. Power button has to be pushed but not hard also there is a delay on turning on on mine where I have to press it for a bit longer than just click.

Well if you have followed "my" quest to get the Huawei ME909u-521 mPCIe working you have probably deducted that due to poor drivers it isn't working.
Naturally thing being as they are Huawei DID get back to me on Facebook 2 days or so after I've sent the card back again to where I bought it from.
They gave me a new driver (4.25.46.05) which seems to be the latest (at least I hope the gave me the latest one). Earlier I tried with 4.25.23.04 which was available from the store I bought it from and the changelog did not indicate anything that might solve my issues with the card. I will ask the store to verify that the card is working and if it is then return it to me (I'll pay S&H) and then cross my fingers and try it with the new driver. I'll keep you guys (and girls) updated.

    For your reference, Huawei ME909u-521 (4.25.46.05) driver for Win x86 & x64:
    https://mega.co.nz/#!XV0QQSBB!tEKWeKfD8mvzewcmqZmL66shKqCqGWsFxkswtH9F5Lc

(Disclaimer: I have not been instructed by Huawei that I CAN'T post this driver but I take no liability for what this driver might do to your system, it is although 100% legit)

The backlight is still white and just a red filter installed to make it appear red. That white is just that light shining through the edges. It's possible that your keyboard didn't get aligned exactly right when being reinstalled. Best bet would be to contact your reseller and get their thoughts since they'll ultimately be the final say so.

The new 3DMark Sky Diver benchmark has been incorporated with the 3DMark package. Here's a run on the W230SS with 860m at 1200MHz Core / 5400MHz vRAM:

Sky Diver demo is in the beginning, fun to watch the new BewbJiggleFx :p. Actual bench starts at 4:00.

    <iframe width='640' height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/k1cNDcXNglU" frameborder='0' allowfullscreen></iframe>

CPU temps got a bit toasty at 90C but GPU was 71C peak.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7 4900MQ,Notebook W230SS
    Final score: 13349
    Graphics: 14501
    Physics: 8789

I am able to get the WHQD display 2560x1440 in my W230SS. Has anyone infos or tests about that panel? Is it a pentile too? Would you choose it over the Samsung QHD? I had read somewhere that its a sharp panel. But i cannot find the forum anymore...

I don't think it's been spotted in the wild yet, but my understanding is that it's not pentile; it's something like the Sharp LQ133T1JW02, which is IGZO and used in Asus Zenbook and I think some Acer notebooks.

Where are you able to get this display option? If you do end up buying it, be sure to post a review!

 This Windows 8.1 QHD memory leak while gaming is really annoying.
Running out of memory with 8gb ram too! Only fix I have found is to match your gaming resolution to the desktop resolution which is not viable for certain games at 3200x1800. No Microsoft hotfix either.

Might downgrade to Windows 7 since it is not a touchscreen anyways...

Sooo... I'm back to struggling with the same problem I was a month or two ago lol. I don't know if I want the W230SS or the W350SS.

I want the W350SS because of the numpad on the keyboard (I work in Blender a lot, which uses the numpad heavily), and because of the larger screen giving me more room to work with. I also like the two 2.5" one mSATA layout. Also, max of 24 GB of RAM (I actually could hit the 16 GB limit in my normal workflow. windows vm, android vms, blender, 4-5 browsers open). Also has a bigger battery.

But... omg it's thick. Why is it so thick? Why couldn't they just make the W230SS a bit longer without making it so thick :(. I don't need the optical drive at all, it'd be completely wasted and only makes the laptop thicker.

I want the W230SS because it's lighter, thinner, and much more portable. I feel like it would be very awkward trying to bring the W350SS to work or class. Trying to use it on an airplane would probably break the flip out trays.

I really can't decide :(. This is my first non-super thin laptop so I really want to keep things thin/light/small, but the benefits of the 15" are way too good to ignore.

It sounds like you would benefit too greatly from the advantages that the 15" provides versus the somewhat bothersome (and mild) lack of portability.

How often do you travel? I think you could make the 15" work.

Also: have you considered the Y50?

Does anyone here regularly use their w230ss at a resolution lower than 1920x1080? I know it's strange, but I actually prefer lower resolutions, especially on smaller screens. One of the reasons I liked the w110er at the time was that it natively ran at 1366x768. I'm curious as to how the w230ss looks at lower resolutions.

Also, does prema's mod allow for manually changing the fan speed?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone checked how much power these use while sleeping? I've got one and it used around 12.5% of my battery over the span of 8 hours which just seems a little high to me!

Are there any tricks that anyone knows of to get that number down?

That is a good idea, and I don't mind that, what I don't like is having to press the power button to get it going! Does anyone know of a way to get it to wake from hibernation when the lid opens? :p

EDIT: In addition to that, is there any way to get the Keyboard Backlight to stay off in Windows 8.1 when it boots from shutdown or hibernation?

What are the component temps like during stress with the 4700m/4710m processors? Will it cook my thighs to have the thing on my lap while gaming? Any info would be greatly appreciated :hi2:

Thing is I really, really hate thick laptops lol. The W230SS was already pushing it. I could definitely get a lot more from the 15". I don't travel too much but when I do I'd really need the 13". And I may be going back to school full time next year, and I really don't see carrying the 15" to class feasible because it's just too big.

The Y50 looks great, except it has subpar cooling and only one drive. I really like the 3x drives of the two Clevo laptops I'm considering. It also tops out at 16GB of RAM. If you take the capability of 24GB out of the w350ss, going for the 230ss is a no brainer.

Yep that's the one they usually use.
Could you please check the HWID of the panel in device manager and also let us know how you like it.
    Brightness, color pop, sharpness?

I am ready to pull the trigger on the WQHD as well.
