Anyway to have Sound Blaster Cinema on on startup? It already starts but it won't work until I manually open it up (from the tray icon).

Did you try to edit one of the existing templates (music, gaming etc)? Because those edits will not be saved, only "Custom" will be remembered by SBCin.

I am considering this laptop as a desktop replacement and one question I havent seen asked yet is in regards to encryption, can you set the encryption password in the bios?

I don't recommend getting Crucial m500 msata. It idles at 60C and can quickly warm up to 85C during load. I will swap mine for another SSD as soon as I get a chance.

Mine idles at 53-60 C, and tops out at 72 C. But 85 C, holy , never reached that. Someone said SSD was better because the heat was less than of a HD. I guess we can disspell that rumour now. :)

Have you used intel XTU to benchmark your CPU guys? I have a w355ss with 4810mq. With some tweaking I can get nearly 690 points in Cinebench R15 CPU test. But when it comes to XTU benchmark, it is rather odd. With and without tweaking, I get around 460 points. Even underclocking all cores to 3GHz doesn't change the score! I know that these scores are not very important. But I was just curious to know how people can get near 800 points (double that of mine!!) with their 4810mq. What are your scores guys?

Well it depends. 120gb M4 in my XPS never crosses 40C. But this time with M500 Crucial has let me down. :( And worst thing is that nobody can tell for sure whether Crucial intended this drive to be so hot or it's an exception and drive should be replaced.

Holidays means Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus/Dongzhi/Yalda/Yule/etc. Basically, November or December.

Is the drive in your XPS mSATA or 2.5"? mSATA drives run hotter.

    Intel XTU.

    Alexis,
It's a 2.5" M4 in my XPS, but are all msata drives as hot as 60C in idle? Perhaps you know which are the coolest ones?

If you want to wait for socketed (LGA) mobile Broadwell, then you will have to wait a good bunch into 2015...2014 mobile Broadwell is all BGA.

@ALL User with QHD+ screen can't use the current Prema Mod vBIOS...I have already made a special version and will release a Mod for QHD+ user in the coming days.

No, it is pretty hot, but it isn't fair to compare it to a 2.5" drive :). Most mSATA drives would hit 60-70 under load.

Most drives will be pretty similar in terms of speed... I personally just recommend the 840 Evo because it's the fastest out there and IMO worth the bit of extra money. It's not like a mechanical drive that'll fail in a couple years, SSDs should last 10+ years under regular use so why not... :)

I agree, my case makes and audible noise of flexing if I open the lid by using one finger in the middle where the webcam is located. Of course my macbook never had this issue. With this laptop I have to purposefully use two hands - one to hold the base and one to open the laptop from the opposite corner of the lid.

For the trackpad settings, my speed settings is Fastest and in Synaptics, touch sensitivity is lightest touch. This combination works well for me, and two finger scrolling improved a bit as well.

CpxAxn suggested this fix for the charms thing, which I also hate but I haven't had a chance to reboot since I read that last week, I have too many tabs open lol:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...er-np7338-owner-s-lounge-101.html#post9673875

Unfortunately, gaming at 30hz or through a USB 3.0 port is not really going to work well, so with this laptop you are limited to HDMI max spec of 1920x1080. Lack of displayport is the biggest flaw with this laptop IMHO.

Can you tell me how you got the two finger scrolling? After installing the drivers (off of sager's site) I have only been able to scroll from the right edge of my touch pad and the two finger gesture does not work very well.

You mean an external display with that resolution? If yes please see the post above yours :-D the answer is already given there...

4k should work over HDMI, but I've never used a 4k display so can't comment too much. You'll only get 30 Hz out of HDMI 1.4 though. You need HDMI 2.0 (which I don't think the laptop, or your maybe even TV has) to get 60 Hz.

No one seems to be replying and your post keeps getting buried. :)

So you're saying the video card isn't showing even as an "Unknown device"?

Have you tried just installing the Nvidia driver and let that find the video card?

Another option is to boot into a UEFi-compatible Linux live CD/DVD and see if the video card is detected there.

If all those fail, well you have a 1-year warranty.

Disclaimer: I don't have my NP7338 yet. Lol

I already tried that too, it seems the problem is with the bios efi or cms control. or its is fried for no reason.
I live in Malaysia, its a little hard to send it back for warranty to xoticpc.

Well... at 4k resolution, you'll only be getting 10 FPS in most games on the GPU, so I doubt the 30 Hz is much of an issue ;). And the "needing two hands to open the laptop" thing is a common problem that pretty much every laptop has. Only Apple goes through the effort to design a laptop you can open with one hand.

Don't know if this is related to my Intel 7260 AC or my computer:
I have had problems since I bought this with my Intel 7260-AC (802.11ac and Bluetooth), and just tried changing the card to another newer card (still the 7260-AC) and the problem persists.
Installed the latest drivers from Intel today (Wireless: 17.0.3 and Bluetooth: 17.0.1401.03) but it still keeps happening. What it does is that I hear a long beep in my speakers and then my (bluetooth) keyboard freezes.
I can't write anything and the status icon on it (Logitech DiNovo Edge) which indicates I'm connected becomes red (while using it then it is not lit but when I use the after sleep it turns green for a few seconds).
The same happens for my mouse (Razer Orochi) which is also connected to Bluetooth and the whole computer seems to "hang", sometimes I can still use my mouse but when I try running a program, opening a windows etc. everything just loads and then after a while everything reconnects and works perfectly.

Tried two cards so I don't think both cards are faulty but might it be because of the drivers or something indicating a problem with my computer?

    Running Win 8.1 Pro N x64.

Any and all help are appreciated.

    Addendum:
I tried getting my Huawei ME909u-521 Mini-PCIe to work in my computer and that didn't work very well either. I do believe that the issue with that card was to poor drivers since Huawei officially (see link below) don't say it supports Windows although where I bought it from (see link below) say it does. Never got it working anyway and I don't know if that together with the problems I'm having with my 7260-AC increases the odds that there are something wrong with my computer. Might be that both products have really bad drivers. I have in any case returned the card to where I bought it from, tried calling Huawei, emailing Huawei, contacting Huawei on three (!) different pages on Facebook (International / Swedish / Danish) and no reply on either except for the Danish one telling me to contact the store where I bought it from nothing else. When I called Huawei I had to go through instructing the person who answered how to even find the product since he couldn't do that.

Will keep you guys updated on how it works and if I find a 4G-mPCIe module that works (in Sweden). Heard somebody got it working in the UK and thats nice to hear anyway :)

Not sure if this will help, but have you disabled power management? Try going into device manager and for the bluetooth drivers (Generic if I remember right) and the 7260 wifi right click them, go to the power management tab and disable the option that allows them to sleep.

Derek@XoticPC or any reseller for that matter, could you advise if the Kensington model 38004 120W power adapter would be compatible with the NP7338?
    Specs from the unit itself:

    Input
    • 120V/2.2A
    • 240V/1.3A
    • 60/50Hz

    Output
    • 0-24 VDC / 0-6.5A
    • 120W max

Here is I think the equivalent model on Amazon [ link]

The usual power supply rules apply. Is the voltage within 0.5v of the original? Is the current the same or higher? Is the tip the right size?

I get my W230ss today and I plan on loading up prema mod on it immediately. Coming from a w230ST did the screen quality control get better on this model? I had to return my w230st like twice before I got a decent screen with no bruising or dead/stuck pixels.

hi guys, i've been checking this thread for a few days now, think I'm settled on getting one of these laptops, lots of great info thanks!

I'm going to get the i7 4910MQ (for 8 threads) option, and am pretty well settled on the specs now (16GB ram, 480GB SSD), except for the screen, can anyone give me a definitive answer on which is the best out of the 1080 and 1800? in terms of CPU/HD4600 usage and temps, and in terms of quality (brightness, contrast and clarity) for normal graphics use (ie without the GPU switched on)

although having 1800 would be useful for video and photo editing, I mostly work with audio, so its not that big an issue for me, and if it affects the temp and available resources significantly compared to the 1080, then I would stick with the 1080p, so I have as much headroom as possible for audio processing - anyone got a good answer for me? :)

also what is the prema mod? seen it pop up a few times, but cant find an actual description...

I have the i7 4810MQ and it doesn't hit full speed when running a heavy 4-core load. I would assume the 4910 will have the same problem. I'm guessing if the 4810 can't hit it's full potential the 4910 wouldn't either. For $350+/- higher cost over the 4810MQ, I don't think it would be very well spent with this laptop. Use the $350 to add a second msata or use it to bump your 480gb one to a 1tb one...and still have some money left over.

    On Edit:
It doesn't reach it's full potential because the laptop is already at is't limit with these hot CPU's. That's why the 4810 throttles down under high load. The 4910 would also be affected by this heat issue....and probably even a little more so than the 4810MQ.

hmm i did wonder if that might happen, having 8 threads would be of benefit to me however, even if it doesn't hit full speed (I dont think i will hit >20% load most of the time tbh), are there any slower i7's that do 8 threads?

is the throttling controlled by the temp sensors, or something else do you know? I was going to have the GPU disabled most of the time to help reduce heat, but still trying to find a nice cool running SSD

If money isn't an issue the 4910mq is still worth considering because it has larger caches. But I normally wouldn't say it's worth the $350 upgrade. If you have the GPU off, then the CPU will be throttled less but would probably still be throttled under heavy load.

So I just finished reading all 121 pages of this thread and I still don't have my w230ss lol. Taking too long.

Is it possible to use both the VGA port and HDMI port at the same time?

I just got this laptop, I ran some benchmarks on it, and then I put farcry 3 on it and every time I minimize the game, it goes to a black window, then the driver crashes with the nvidia kernel error that the driver crashed ( 337.50 and 337.88 both do this after completely cleaning the drivers)

Is my card bad, can anyone else test this? I am doing this with no overclock.

I put prema bios 1.1 on it too.

I am testing more games as we speak.
