What is too hot? The temps will be fine and will not damage the equipment.

Oh... My... What is this!?

I think it's time for some overclocking!

If I recall correctly. I don't believe I've went over 85C on full load. I have since lost my paper with all my notes.... Had to detox my bedroom after my tonsillectomy. Constant strep throat from March-June was horrible!

i was just looking at the internal pictures of this laptop and the heatsink seems to be made of a silver metal most likely aluminum besides cost is there any reason clevo did this and do u think a copper heatsink would cool better?

Yes, the fins are aluminum, meanwhile the heat pipes are copper. As to why they did it that way, one can't be too certain. It could very well be price, but it could be weight related as well.

The heatsink IS a Foxconn part. I have yet to find any additional information about it, but it is marked as a "Foxconn-TM 6-31-W15EN-102"

You... are my favorite person in the world :)

With this, plus fixing my optimus issues this laptop will be AMAZING.

NOTE to others, I spoke with clevo and it seems they never plan on releasing a larger battery, which kind of is a drag, but I'm getting roughly 3 hours or so on battery . It also does not void your warranty to paint your lid if you want to flat black it or anything you wish, but if you beak any parts you are not covered.

If anyone knows how to fix My optimus issues I'd appreciate the help, it not functioning properly is quite annoying. I've even updated to the newest hotkey version.

    EDIT:
Optimus fixed, Closing msi afterburner fixed the issues I was having.

Just purchased the notepal U2 and not really any noticeable temp differences unless I remove the bottom panel.

I have been aswell, not sure why.

Anyone try any heatsink mods yet? also Is the bottom of this heatink flat enough or would you recommend lapping it?

I'm looking for some tiny washers to add some extra pressure to the CPU as well.

It isn't just those forums. It is actually affecting the entire NBR forum. There was a post about it Laptop Forums and Notebook Computer Discussion - Announcements in Forum : Sager and Clevo

For the most part, it seems to have subsided but I have noticed a little lag on page loads still and on occasion I have to reload the page.

    Any cooling mods yet?

Going to try some Prolimatech PK-1 thermal grease as soon as it arrives and bench the results. I plan to try a few methods of applying the grease... I'm curious about applying the grease with my finger as to not use so much.

I'm thinking of a few different cooling mods, hoping we get a new Prema mod before I get the time to do it so I can try undervolting first.

First thing I plan to do is find out if the heatsink needs lapping, Finding some small heatsinks, not sure if I'll be doing that one yet or not, though I would like to get some heatsinks on the vram.

Other than that I how to eventually make a 120mm vent on the bottom of the case but due to ram and second hdd locations I may be limited in doing this.

Do I have to go through sager to get the bottom panel? I'm curious how much a replacement costs incase I mess this one up

You have to set your boost clocks in P0 higher. So, if you wan't 3000mhz mem, you have to go to P0 and put in +1000mhz for the mem. Then go back to P5 and you'll see that the mem can go up to 3000mhz and any further will cause it to snap back. :) Hope this helped.

I've done extensive testing using crysis 2, the witcher 2, skyrim and alan wake. The gpu is stable but temps go high after continuous playing for an hour or so.
80C after 40 min, 82 after an hour and 83-84 about 1.5 hours into gaming @1200/2700 clocks which makes the pc unstable. So now I've gotta get my temps lower somehow. Btw, these temps are without throttle stop. With throttlestop turbo fixed, the temps reach 87 C on the gpu after about 35 min of gaming as the cooling pipes in my laptop share the same fan. Gotta devise a good cooling mod. I've already got a 5v fan with usb connections setup, gonna stick it in place of my second hdd which I don't really need. Problem is where I live I can't find some small after market heat sinks. I've got the fan set up but its sorta useless without someway to take heat away from the pipes. Which heat sinks do you think would be good to place in my laptop. Ill post pics soon.

Pics added. So guys help me with the mod, does taking the stickers off void any warranty? Can you guys recommend me some heat sinks or tell me a better fan placement?

Nice cooling mod idea. Good to have that spare hard drive bay clear for something like this.

First of all, did you replace your thermal paste yourself? I would try that first and see if temps improve. Factory applied paste even if it is ICD, isn't always a quality application. You can buy heatsinks on eBay. The cheap ones come from Hong Kong and can take a few weeks to arrive, like this one: Copper Ram VGA DDR DDR2 DDR3 RAM Memory Cooler HeatSink | eBay

Or Amazon, but they're a little more expensive, but still only $8: Amazon.com: Cosmos ® 8 PCS Copper VGA RAM Cooling Heatsinks cooler + Cosmos Cable Tie: Computers & Accessories

Where did you find that USB to to fan adapter by the way? That looks like a nice little gadget.

They have a peel and stick adhesive (psa) on the back. Just peel and stick. :) Actually I usually just scrape that crap off there and use a thin double sided thermal tape but I don't know if it improves it or not. Theoretically it should, but reality, never bothered to validate.

I've applied ic diamond myself 2 times now, and the temps dropped about 3.5. degrees esp idle temps but max temps only 2-3 degrees. I have great temps normally at 69 gpu and 84-85 CPU but thats all stock, with no oc.

You posted some nice links ill check em out when i get back from work. I found an old useless antec notebook cooler and tore off the board. The power socket i had to change and got it from an old toy car and replaced it. Got usb cable for $2.25 at a nearby shop.

Best bet would be to find a 15mmx 80 mm fan from cooler master or someone (I know CM sells them for their cm690II advanced gpu rack) I'll see if I can't find a link or part number for you when I get home tomorrow.

Finally got to radioshack (Mini-vacation woooo) picked up two size N dc jack connectors female and male, I already have a 2 amp and a 1 amp 12 volt power supply deciding which I want to use.

Hopefully I will get some free time this week to get into the back of this thing with my micrometer and find a good placement for a 120 slot or this will all of been in vein xD

You should be able to draw power from the laptop itself, like from a power connector for one of the HDD's. There will be +12v there. Also, 1A will be more than enough to run most fans. (The draw of the fan will usually be listed on the fan itself).

I'm not worried about power, i'm more interested in getting a maximum surface area for air flow as possible. Thanks, for the links hpwingnut, Imma get some of those copper heat sinks asap. The gpu is partially blocked on top by a heatpipe and it will be hard to get any addition copper there. I tried some designs in solidworks today as a test but we can't know for sure till i get the copper sinks and actually put them in.

Has anyone noticed having a rattle on the fan when tilting the laptop?
It sounds like its rubbing on something. I don't even mean serious tilting, just tip it back 20 degrees or so.
I noticed this when I first got it, and now it's occasionally rattling when its on the flat. I've opened it up and can't see that its hitting anything.

This is really annoying. I don't want to have to RMA this cause of a catching fan because I love the rest of it so much.

Righto, I think I'm going to buy a new fan for it and see if that sorts it.
I unscrewed it, and ran the fan off a 5v source and it exhibited the same noise as in the laptop, so I think it could be dodgy bearings or something.
I will upload a video when I can find a suitable recording device.

Possiblly an imbalanced impeller and/or bad bearings. You can try lubing the bearings. The impeller pin is trying to "screw-out" of its sleve. Not good. Else just buy a new fan to save yourself a lot of hassle.

As is, if you happen to have it in an incline, the fan may fail to spin-up at some point, and you will get into an overheat issue (PC crash or damaged components).

Mine did the same thing when I first got it. I poked around under the covers to see what the cause was and couldn't find anything. It quit doing it after I put the cover back in place so I've been ignoring it since. It will likely need a replacement at some point... most likely its caused by sloppy bearings in the fan.

    Hello Notebook forum!

Today I opened up and tested my brand new W150ERQ. To my disappointment it seems to be something wrong with it. The problem is that the computer emits system beeps while simultaneous caps lock and numlock lights up. Most often it has been two beeps in a row, but once it was only one beep. The computer can run on as usual but after a while it dies completely. The beeping began while the installation of Windows 7 was going on. I have also tried to go into the bios and even here the beeping comes. It is not a constant beeping but it comes very often. After googling a bit, it is my feeling that the computer is overheating but I'm not sure. The computer is in any case flat on the table and there is nothing blocking the vents. I have also tried taking the battery out and run with only the power cord in but it gets the same error.

Any ideas? Not the most fun to send back the computer.
    Thank you in advance!

I'm afraid that they might fall off and short circuit something.

Hello, new user here from Portugal.
Finally I have my Clevo, so far I am quite pleased with it and performance and the 1080p screen are within my expectations.

But I have no fn+1 feature like this user:
It was one of the reasons I bought this Clevo, as it could be useful in some situations. For example I noticed the zone left to touchpad gets a bit warm during idle/light workloads (probably the intel PCH, since it is usually at 60-65º), but if I fire Prime95, the fan kicks in and after a minute or 2 that area gets colder.
Is this a matter of changing bios/ec-kbc? I am going to check what version I have.

edit: my bios is the 1.00.06 and KBC/EC 1.00.02
what version have the users with fn+1 feature?
