I wonder if there is any thing else that I can add or modify to let it be my 3 years future Laptop?
I am a normal user and sometimes I play some games but I prefer always to have the latest technology installed in my laptop. The only thing is the shape of the laptop that is not attractive at all, I can buy Asus with same specs and better shape but it will cost me around $1800.
Any suggestions before I make the Order ???
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if the Pollux 1412 version comes with the second HD/SSD caddy in it? I got mine with just an SSD and I'd like to throw a second one in for some extra storage space... (I have a 1TB external where I keep most of my large collection of files).

Hi everyone!
Did anyone try the ThrottleStop software?
Would it be able to bypass the Clevo CPU boost limitation when on discrete GPU?
By the way I use it on my laptop (acer Timeline X 3820TG i5-480m), it is very usefull to limit the max multiplier when on battery or to maximize it when AC power is plugged in) -
-
I was able to get it to full throttle (3.0GHZ ish) while gaming, with ThrottleStop.
edit: Temp Benchmark:
Running ThrottleStops TS bench in background while playing BFBC2 for 10 minutes at a time, at 1080p low to med settings, none of the cores ever broke 93C and the GPU never broke 69C usually stable around 90C , this is cores running at an observed 3.06-3.1 GHZ but turbo on GPU was not observed.. but BFBC2 was absolutely playable, not much lag .. only once in a while it would completely stop frame for a couple seconds then continue. Without TS Bench running in the background, the CPU cores never broke 86C Max. and the GPU never broke 67C. This is also running at full Turbo(3.06-3.1 for this machine). I doubt any game will operate with these conditions so I would expect lower temps in real-world gaming. The fan does go Full Blast though, and it is hearable by another student on the next table about 10-15 feet away, but it is not unbearable or annoying.
I have not done any performance benches. Well definitely seen more stability in BFBC2 and Diablo III. I think the CPU was just throttling way too much before. -
Ordered mine today from Eurocom. Couldn't resist the matte screen as stock instead of the glossy. 15.6" matte (not 95% gamut), 30 day perfect LCD guarantee, GT650M 1GBm i7-3610QM, stock 500GB drive, stock dvd, Intel 6230 wifi/bluetooth, 4GB of memory.
Didn't pay for any hard drive or memory upgrades through Eurocom as it will be much cheaper to do it myself.
They had a chassis there for me to look at before buying. Looks like a nice machine. It had a solid feel despite no LCD mounted in the top, keys were easy enough to type on. I'm coming from a macbook pro so the trackpad will be sure to disappoint, but not as disappointing as the WWDC that Apple put on today was. ;-) I watched the live play-by-play from audience members at WWDC and once they announced the sad upgrades to the various Mac models, I went and ordered the 6165. ;-)
It should be here by the end of the week so I'll do some benches like plancy this weekend hopefully. -
Just placed my order through Pro-Star!
Got the i7 upgrade, 8 gigs of ram at 1600, 750gb HDD, and 95% matte screen.
Has anyone taken their laptop apart yet? I plan to in the near future to possibly lap the heatsink, but to definitely use some better thermal paste. I'll take pictures if no one else hasn't done it yet. -
Puget Systems Traverse V550i Component Replacement - YouTube Heres a vid of a guy taking it apart some atleast.
Got my Clevo W150ERM a few days ago and ill write some pointers experienced so far.
* The laptop Looks very cheap in my opinion when looking from the backside and under, but the frontside looks good if not great.
* The kayboard feels VERY cheap in the beginning, atleast it did for me, but after typing a while i would say it feels very comfortable to write on, the keys are pretty clicky and not so spongy.
* The touchpad is generally good, the gestures are pretty good in my opinion, the touchpad buttons however, are not so good, except that they are pretty quiet which i like.
* Alltho it looks cheap, it feels pretty solid and i think it has pretty good build quality.
* The speakers have probably the worst placement i've ever seen on a laptop, the are placed under the laptop facing straight down, this makes the treble dissappear alot, but they are still good enought to produce audible sound.
* THX Studio Pro sucks in my opinion, the sound is better without it, and good enought without it.
* I have found no way to force the Nvidia Card to be used at all times so playing games in windowed mode will most probably use the Intel Card, but it's powerfull enought for many games today.
* I Have found no way to get the VGA button to work on this laptop, i think it's supposed to switch the GPU but the way Optimus works prevents it from working.
* If you are using a extra slim HDD (For example Plextor M3 Pro SSD that i use (7mm thick)) You need to put something underneath the hdd to prevent it from being loose. (Some thin foam that came with the computer box did it for me).
* Use Drivers from the Clevo Site, the Driver CD for me atleast only included like half of the drivers. Also note that you need to install Intel GPU drivers before the Nvidia ones
* The laptop is generally VERY quiet, atleast compared to other laptops that i've owned, but sometimes it can be loud when it spins up to high, but not louder than a normal laptop in my opinion.
* The Screen is AWESOME, i have the 60% NTSC one and it's plenty good enought in my oponion, compared to my old HP Dv6 this screen is a godsend.
* The Nvidia card only has a PCI Express 1 8x buss, but wether or not it actually impacts performance is not known to me, but i think it would be at most 3-5% in that case.
* Battery life is at most avarage, i think i got about 3 hours with normal use (Internet browsing and sometimes putting the laptop away for a few mins), this is with the 62w battery.
* Temperatures are good, Cores are at 38C in idle and i think topped 89C with ThrottleStop. (Wth Turbo enabled)
--Music related stuff--
* The DPC latency is good enought and for DJing this laptop works good, i had a few problems at the beginning with Traktor Pro 2.5 with a few spikes which causes sound to glitch, the Latencymon reported that Throttle is enabled but in power options it's disabled. I solved this by increasing the ms by a few, it's now on 6.4ms total, including both Processing (1.5 ms and output 4.9ms). On Traktor Pro 1.2.4 i can run on 64 samples and rest default (1ms according to Traktor Pro). FL Studio 10 is steady at 12 ms on normal projects (like New stuff project file).
* Comparing to my desktop, the sound on the laptop sounds slightly compressed and sounds to have slightly more treble than my desktop (Realtek HD audio built-in card, MSI motherboard). This could also just be imagination, remember that. And i don't know which one is more correct either.
All i had for now, remember that most are just my opinion and experience -
Just got my laptop yesterday and was a little disappointed with some of the keys in the keyboard creaking when I press them especially the left shift key, which sucks cause I use that button a lot in gaming. I am also having a bit of a trouble with my wireless having high latency and was ruining my gaming experience. I'm not that knowledgable about that area but I am wondering why my old laptop is not having any problems with my internet and this one is. Then I updated my integrated video card and experienced a blue screen. I did another clean install today cause I don't know that much about troubleshooting and stuff and hopefully all the problems go away or else I might have it replaced.
I am very happy with the screen btw. The laptop looks great imo and doesn't feel cheap aside from a couple of keys. I really don't want to return and wait a couple more weeks for my laptop to arrive cause the reason I got this in the first place is because I need it asap but I want to be perfectly happy and satisfied with my purchase. I might just upgrade to the 9130 if I'm still having problems. -
By the way,
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 here. -

Manually Control Fan Speed - XOTICPC Forums -
No, W150ERQ obviously doesn't have this option, it's not the higher end range of Clevo's gaming builds.
-
I just tried fn-1 on my W150ER and the fan goes to 100%. Awesome!
One thing I found surprising about the fan in this laptop.... they are actually quieter than the Macbook Pro that I replaced. After all the complaints about fans in the Clevo/Sager line sounding like a jet taking off I was pretty happy to find that it isn't bad at all, at least in comparison.
Most of the time they are dead quiet. -

I was looking for a mid-range laptop with a GT 650M GPU when I stumbled upon the Clevo brand. These laptops are just what I want. I don't want a flashy, thin laptop. I also don't want an Alienware with neon lights. I don't care about the thickness and the battery, and I don't care about the looks. Clevo is just perfect. The only other brand I'm considering is Acer, because they are pretty cheap. But Clevo is also cheap and has better build quality.
I'm going for the One M56-2O ( http://www.one.de/shop/product_info.php?cPath=203&products_id=6962). This is basically the Clevo W150ERQ. "One" is a German brand, and for me (I live in the Netherlands) it is the cheapest. My setup will be this:
GPU: Nvidia GT 650M GDDR5 2048MB
CPU: i5-3210M 2.5 - 3.1 Ghz Turbo (I could go for the i7, but for me a higher clock speed is more important than two extra cores. The i7-3610QM only has 2.3 Ghz and is 95 euro more than the i5-3210M. That is going over my budget, and it isn't worth it IMO)
RAM: 8192MB DDR3 1600Mhz (2x 4096MB) (I also have the option for 8192MB DDR3 1333Mhz (1x 8192MB), which is 40 euros more. That doesn't make sense to me...)
Storage: 128GB SATA III Samsung 830 Series SSD (128GB is enough for me, and SSD is expensive: 45 euros more for 128GB. Besides, I have an external HDD of 1TB. This 128GB will only be for games)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP1 OEM + Installation
All together it brings me to 914 euro, which is 1180 american dollars.
My goal was to be able to run STALKER: Call of Pripyat on (near) max settings. Can anyone with CoP tell me how much FPS you are getting on max settings, and what setup (DDR3/GDDR5, 1GB/2GB, i5/i7, HDD/SSD, how much RAM, etc) you are using?
My plan was to play the game with two mods you are probably familiar with if you play CoP: AtmosFear 3 and Absolute Nature 3. I don't think AtmosFear is going to decrease the FPS a lot, but Absolute Nature 3 might be a problem. The developer of the mod had the following to say about the performance:
About Absolute Nature 3: "This mod requires strong GPU and a lot of RAM (at least 3GB). Installing this mod can cause memory problems on 32bit systems or systems with less than 3GB RAM. If you experience heavy framedrop or CTDs try to lower settings as texture quality, draw distance and object quality in advanced graphics settings and/or resolution in basic settings. The overall amount of polygons that the levels are built from doubled due to hi-poly tree replacements and denser vegetation. Because of that the average framerate dropped for about 30%."
I think 8GB is enough RAM, and the GT 650M should be able to run CoP at max settings with around 30-40 FPS. I can always disable AA if I have to. For CoP I'm not going to need four cores. In fact, it barely uses two cores. SSD might help (that is not the only reason I'm getting SSD), and I think 2GB GDDR5 of VRAM opposed to 1GB DDR3 of VRAM is also going to help.
If anyone could try Call of Pripyat on max settings WITH AtmosFear 3 and Absolute Nature 3 I would appreciate that A LOT! Here are the links: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Absolute Texture Packs by Cromm Cruac

Whoops, no idea why it just posted that twice. Sorry!

how glossy is the exterior finish on top (with the dotted gray pattern). its honestly one of the biggest factors holding me back from purchasing this model right now. Is it prone to fingerprints and scratches? I'd prefer the matte textured finished they had on the 5165
-
owners - can we have more comments on the sound the speakers make. Acceptable or rubbish?
-
One thing to note is that due to Turbo Boost, the 3610QM will have similar single/dual thread speed compared to the 3210M. I would actually highly suggest that upgrade, you will be much happier in the future -
has anybody seen any video reviews of the np6165
-
I promised myself to draw a line somewhere. Otherwise you end up spending a lot of money. I said to myself NEVER over the 1000 euros, and I wanted to keep it at 800 euro.
The line I drew for myself considering performance was being able to run Call of Pripyat at max with a decent FPS rate, and I don't think the 3610QM is going to help much with that, if at all. It certainly isn't worth the price. Maybe for the future it would be a better choice. I guess more and more games/programs will make use of those four cores. -
-
As such, my laptop has a matte black finish on the back of the LCD with some metallic bits here and there. Its pretty nice in person. The metallic is only noticeable in direct light like in the picture below. Normally it just looks flat black and feels very similar in texture to the two Thinkpads that I've had in the past.

For gaming and computer performance 2-3 years is a lot, but I wasn't planning on keeping up anyway. I'm not really a hardcore gamer (I even play Call of Duty on the Xbox 360, shame on me!), but I just want to play the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. -
After a lot of research I picked up this notebook. I would recommend Malibal as they let me configure mine without memory or hard drives. This allowed me to buy my memory and hard drives elsewhere and save quite a bit of money. My total for everything including drives and memory from different vendors was under $1500.
Specs in my signature when I can figure out how to make a signature. -
-
Does the THX sound card come stock or is it extra?
I can only see options to upgrade to creative sound-blaster external 24 bit sound cards on the xoticpc site, while malibal and powernotebook aren't giving me any options for the sound cards. -
-
Does anyone know of any 1866mhz memory that they are 100% sure works with the w150erq. I would just configure my w150erq with it before i order but resellers charge an arm and a leg for it. I have seen the kingston hyperx Newegg.com - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 HyperX Plug n Play Laptop Memory Model KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G
and corsair vengeance
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1866 Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M2A1866C10
they both have good reviews and bad im leaning toward the hyperx but any advice would be appreciated. -
You can unlock the turbo when gpu active using Throttle stop:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...arket-upgrades/531329-throttlestop-guide.html
I have oc'ed the 650m gpu to +135/1000 core and memory using beta drivers max temp 79 C with stock thermal paste. IC diamond is coming next week with my notebook cooler. Max turbo temps with high cpu use while gaming (crysis 2 and witcher 2) 94 C(@ 5 hours gaming, also GPU oc'ed). Throttling down apparent. Too scared to do prime95 + kombustor.
Sound isn't good originally but the THX tru studio improves sound a LOT. I have one stuck blue pixel, been trying to get rid of it, no success yet using 6 hours of UD pixel. Screen is great otherwise, nice brightness and contrast. I got the glossy screen.
A side note, beta drivers disable optimus power savings so if you use your laptop unplugged most of the time, stick to stock drivers. The driver for the 650m isn't complete yet so a lot of performance has yet to be gained. e.g: Assassin's creed revelations runs absolutely horribly, 20-25 fps on any resolution.
Some gaming benches:
witcher 2: 1080p (low settings)
20 fps avg, max 30, min 13
22 fps avg, max 31, min 15 with above oc
witcher 2: 1366x768 (medium settings)
34 fps avg, max 60, min 28
42 fps avg, max 80, min 34 with above oc
crysis 2: 1080p (advanced settings), hardcore>advanced>gamer.
32 avg fps, 48 max, min 24
39 avg fps, 64 max, min 30 witch above oc
crysis 2: 1080p (hardcore)
22 fps avg with oc
crysis 2: other resolutions
For some reason lowering resolution caused the game to stutter horribly with no increase in frame rate and erratic frame rates at times, still checking that out.
Got a 3dmark11 total score of 2515 but don't have link right now. I will do re bench soon.
Also recommend reading last 20 pages or so of the w110er owner's thread, some nice people and info there.

An interesting thing to note is that using CPUID the max cpu temp was 92 C. -
I have had the laptop all day now.
Few things I've noticed.
The back of the screen is pretty much a mirror, I may or may not flat black it at work.
The fingerprint scanner is pretty much useless(coming from a dv6 laptop with a finger print scanner) the HP blows this one away.
The mic and webcam are very low budget, My girlfriend is saying the mic sounds like I'm under water, still acceptable to use though.
The webcam has no real settings, no auto adjustments for brightness or low light sensors.
I personally love the touch pads feeling.
My biggest complaint so far is the lack of ability to use Optimus. I can't enable the dedicated card for anything as of now.
I've tried the 294 drivers that came with the laptop and they didn't work, I just downloaded the 304 beta drivers( Only drivers I was able to find at all from Nvidia directly -.-)
The most I can get working is the lights on the top of the laptop will flash between what are suppose to be the dedicated and integrated gpu, but no discernible difference in performance.
ANY help with that situation would be greatly appreciated.
Temps are quite fair from what I have seen, though I've only been able to play killing floor so far since it's the first game I downloaded and temps were very acceptable. As far as the palm rest heating up, I have my ssd in the stock location of the hdd, and the hdd switched to the middle slot.
The hd 4000 is capable enough for kf on medium -low at 1080p for anyone wondering though.
The audio is in fact pretty atrocious coming from this thing though(Audiophile) Headphones are a must for any decent listening, though I assumed this when I saw the chipset was VIA -
Thank you guys for updating this thread. I'm thinking about grabbing one of these so it's good to read about it before I pull the trigger.

dark666, both dGpu and iGpu are 'active' when the orange light is on and dGpu is off when the green light is on. You can try to change it to orange then right click on desktop>nvidia control panel. Out of the four menus on top select desktop and check all options, this shows an icon in your taskbar when 650m is active, just hover over it later when alt-tabbing out of the game and it will tell you if the dGpu is active or not. Then goto 3D options from the left panel and select "high performance NVIDIA processor" in the global settings tab from the preferred graphics drop down menu.
That should fix it, I think. -

Okay, so after a day with the laptop, Optimus has finally decided to start working.. I literally haven't done anything to it, It just started working.... I magically gained the ability to manually configure it and since then it has worked. The manual controls since, have been greyed out again, but Optimus is still functioning properly.
The sound is still pretty atrocious, though the THX Crystallizer has helped substantially.
For anyone wondering
BF3 can run at 1080p on all low settings about as well as my desktop with a GTx460 1 gig twin frozr II card on low at the same res
so on low at 1080p I get roughly 34-70 fps
Still getting use to this keyboard though, Wondering if anyone has thought to try the backlit keyboards from the 9150/30 and put it on this frame -
Although... In return, I somehow scratched too small areas on the chassis and broke the headphone adapter... Donno how I managed that, but I wasn't too happy. However, the SB X-Fi Go was an excellent replacement! Just hate having to keep it plugged in via usb.
As for the keyboard, I believe it's a no-go due to clearance issues on the chassis itself.
On another note, anyone have a disassembly guide for this notebook? I want to look into what's up with the damn cheap headphone jack. -
I don't have a proper guide, but you might wanna look at this video. Its very basic though:
Puget Systems Traverse V550i Component Replacement - YouTube -
I found a German review of the One M56-2O, which is the same as the Clevo W150ERQ. The review is positive, but the comments are not. Google Vertalen
The translation sucks, so if you speak German I suggest you don't use google translate.
Anyway, I wonder why so many people are so negative, while people here are very positive. Most criticism is about the glossy finish at the back, but is that really such a dealbreaker? For this money, this much performance, are you really going to complain about the freaking finish of the back? Some people just don't make any sense. But it's their choice, their opinion.
Are you guys also unhappy with the back finish? I mean, I guess it could be better, but it isn't THAT bad, right?
A comment from the review (ignore the very bad translation):
"The quality of these things is so bad that I would never underground access to a one, even if the specs can be seen."
Don't worry, there are some guys that do make sense:
"I like the device. What make is this, I really do not itch, if the data fit, and values. Price / performance I find more here as well. What some expect for the price, I do not understand completely. Would that be part of a Samsung, Asus, Dell, etc., it would be at least 200 - 300 € more expensive." -
Does anyone know if a spacer is needed to install a samsung 830 in this laptop since they are 7 MM instead of 9MM drives?
-
Funny thing with THX audio drivers is that it improves greatly the sound on speakers but when you connect earphones, it's awful as hell. Actually u have to deactivate THX plugin when connecting earphones for the sake of your ears It's not a big deal since there's a button on/off on the plugin.

Just got out of BF3, have to run it windowed mode, to get optimus running it properly, but it runs incredibly well. Able to keep my score very positive, smooth framerates, no massive dips. usually from 34-60 as stated before all on low at 1920x1080 60hz running on low, will probably up the aa some to get rid of jaggies, but other than that the game looks incredible on this monitor. This is with 15 tabs open in Chrome playing youtube with multple extensions and skype.
The UMA/optimus button nolonger switches between anything(it does not turn green if I press it) Haven't figured out why that is, thought it might of been the MEI drivers from intel, didn't fix it though.
The Stock wireless card gives me average ping, every once in awhile I'll find a server with 14-40 ping. but if you play bf3 you know how annoying finding a low latency server can be with players in it.
Temps are great, haven't gotten unbearably hot, or hot in general by my own opinion. Touch pad over WSAD aren't horrible either, switched my ssd into the left socket and hdd into middle.
Still trying to find better drivers for the fingerprint scanner. -

Any Linux users here? I'm planning to run Linux on this and I'm wondering if there is anything I should know before I buy.

I still have no idea what I'm going to do when I install it... Maybe a piece of metal from the Home Depot? -
