Hey Larry, I have a couple questions (or anyone who is familiar with LPC).

-How much is the student discount? I already ordered mine from you guys but it'd be nice to know what I'm missing out on ;)

-What does LPC stand for? I thought it might be Larry Panders Computers, but then again it could be Larry + Pooters = Cool or even Larry Patented Chupacabras. You never know...

So far, I'm really liking what I see with this model. My only remaining questions are these.

    1. I noticed that if I change to the ivybridge, I'll be getting a 45W version with a bigger power brick. How big is the brick? Can one of the resellers give us the dimensions and weight of the bigger brick, and its difference from the brick with lower power?

    2. By increasing into the ivybridge, I understand that the temperature will be higher than if I had stayed with sandybridge. How much higher will it be? Will an idle average of 60C and max of 90C greatly affect the longevity of the components?

I'm really trying to decide between the sandy or ivy. On the one hand, ivybridge apparently is more efficient and should not use as much heat as sandybridge for the same amount of power. But the new ivybridge does use more power, and all that excess heat has got to dissipate somewhere.

Will staying with sandybridge make the computer last any longer than going with ivybridge?

It's a testament to how starved people are of 11" gaming power on the go (without the Alienware premium, RIP m11x) that this thread has aggregated over 750 posts in less than 2 weeks, and the vast majority of the people here don't have theirs yet.

really nice laptop, has anyone got his/her W110ER and can check the temperatures while gaming?
The W110er has some important advantages compared to the M11x:
    - Its design - its normal design, so this can be used not only for gaming, also for business if needed (the M11x is too aggressive for that)
    - Changeable processor(no ULV version) - much more CPU power but also more heat and less battery life.
And aswell: the price is much better. For 100€ (germany) you get the best 35W CPU; the best CPU for the M11x costs 400€!

If you live in the US, you only have to pay tax on your order if you live in the same state that the retailer is located. Your state may require a Use Tax at the end of the year, but you don't pay any at the time of sale.

Which reseller did you use? I just contacted XoticPC and they're taking off $40 a piece for the RAM and HDD to make $80 off.

Also, is the Intel Wireless Card worth it compared to the Built-In one if I'm just browsing, playing online games, and doing homework on it? Same for the IC Diamond...is it easy to apply yourself now that this laptop doesn't even have screws? Cause you can get this compound for dirt cheap compared to the cost of buying it straight from resellers.

Ok I think I know how you got your price from $944 to $839. If you subtract $80 (for each of the $40) and then multiply by 0.97 (for the 3% cash off) you get $838.08.

But yeah is the extra $25 for the Intel card worth it over the stock?

Looking at the temperatures of this thing, I'm getting really, really worried about the 60C and 70Cs in idle. Isn't that really bad for the longevity of the laptop? I wonder if anyone will get this with an i5 and tell us the temps...

Overclockers Australia Forums - View Single Post - Horize W110ER Review

HTWingnut's machine with 3610M goes to 60C, while the austrailian review also reports 59C at idle.

Can anyone please tell me if these kinds of idle temps will kill or shorten the lifetime of the components?

I think 60C is not bad, not gonna really affect any components. However, around 90 will definitely affect, especially the GPU and HDD. That's what happened to my hp dv6 :(

I think it will only get in that range if you're really pushing your card for an extended period of time. I hope. And I'm not too surprised about the heat, it's a lot of power in a really small package, there's not too much breathing room. Sager is known for having good cooling systems, but I think if it didn't have such great cooling there's no way anyone could make a laptop this small.

Just think about how much power is contained inside the 11'' frame. I think if temperature is really an issue, you should look into getting maybe an external cooling stand? Or i'm sure there will be some way to make the fan run faster to keep the temps down. i'm actually not too sure, and this is something that could be good to resolve, since i just ordered mine.

Yes, I've never seen anyone ask this question but are the fans changeable? On a desktop, fans are rather basic to connect, it's just a molex or those 3-pin contacts or whatever, pretty standard. I can imagine it's the same in laptops, particularly the W110ER?

It's typically difficult to find a different replacement fan for a laptop. They usually come as a module, sometimes sealed or riveted together. They are usually engineered/designed for the specific laptop. I don't think you'd find much better air cooling than what you get with the Clevo. I may eventually add some extra stick-on heatsinks around the CPU and try to get some airflow around it.

Well, you would have to ask yourself the following questions:

    1) Do I have legacy software that requires XP Mode to run it?

    2) Do I need to connect to a corporate style network with central data servers?

The above are features added in Professional.

    1) Will I need multiple language packages?

    2) Do I need heavy data encryption?

The immediate above 2 questions as well as questions for Professional are addressed with Ultimate.

A great tip we give is to remove the "home" from home premium. Those wonderful marketing folks at Microsoft want to take all your money if they can so they doctor up their naming scheme in an attempt to persuade people.

Home Premium and Professional can be had in both 32-bit and 64-bit.

Ultimate seems to be the only one that is 64-bit only.

Can anyone verify how much of an impact heat has on gaming laptop's life? I hear conflicting things from different people but I suspect it's partially build-quality and partially manufacturer.

Has anyone purchased an i7-3610QM from Ebay for about $250 and dropped it in this yet? Does it overheat easily?

Probably not yet, only a couple of people have them so far. Maybe in the next week or so you will see someone that has done that.

The idle temps seem to be a function of the desire for a silent idle speed. 60c shouldn't kill the machine as I've run a OCed c2q at those temps since release and its still going strong doing crunching. Perhaps when Prema gets a hold of the BIOS/EC and starts modding it he will enable a faster ramp up of the fan to hold the temps down but with higher noise for those who don't mind.

We also have Intel's datasheet that say max temp before damage is caused is 105c and that says throttling will happen at 10c before that(95c) so unless you're planning to own for more then 5 years you should be fine.
