The ones you see are engineering samples. You aren't going to get a production one for that cheap.

The issue is not silicon, but the hard drive might fail since the heat radiated from the cpu/gpu will increase the temperature of other components.

Man. Do I really have to spend another $500 just to get lower temps with a quad core? >.< Sigh...

This can't be the last iteration of high performance 11' laptops, right?

How? There is no heatpipe conected to the HDD... It is not like the heat will conduct there like magic. The ambient will be hotter indeed, but nothing to worry about.

But having a 90C near the HDD will definitely be a lot worse than having a 70C near the HDD, right? :(

Yep yep, But the HDD is way too far from the Cpu (at least on this model hehe :p ). I get your point and it is hugely valid, since there will be other components near the cpu being irradiated from the heat of the cpu, but at least not the HDD, the ram, that could be worse and it is closer to the cpu :( .

As mentioned above, it's irrelevant. (I have been building desktop systems for clients aswell as repairing notebooks for about 6 years now as a reference.)

The CPU going to mid-high 80's and even low 90's is not really a big issue, though I admit going well into the 90's area is going a bit too close towards the Tcase temp, but honestly MOST of notebooks carrying i7 mobile CPUs run in the low to mid 80's when under full load (i.e. Prime95). I have numerous customers who have had their laptop CPUs go above 80 in their daily usage and it has never caused for their PC to crash or anything else. The chips can handle it just fine.

Same deal with the video cards, mid 80's are just fine. Is lower better? Sure it is, the small chassis however doesn't make it possible to run at 60°C or anything like that under load, will this make CPU/GPU go defective? Nope, however don't let dust clog up/block the air vents by putting it on a fluffy surface. A clean and non-clogged cooling system is vital for a system like this, it won't last 2 minutes without the fan (under load).

Thanks. In your experience, would a CPU that consumes 10W less power (going with the sandy vs the ivy) significantly decrease the temperature for a chassis of this size? Or would the heat output stay relatively the same - meaning I'd regret going with the sandy vs the ivy?

It is very hard to tell LaptopUserExtreme, Ivy bridge has a new "thermal system" it can use more than 45W or use even less than previous gens. In this case 45w would be an average high. On sandy bridge 45w would be the top.

    Like I said b4 I don't really expect a huge difference by using a 35w cpu, perhaps 8c to 5c less. Suzaku6 has a great point there...

We can't know for sure atm, we have to wait and see. Also is not like 105C is the REAL limit, engineers always add safe zones for everything these things are dumb-proof but not idiot-proof.

Maybe there is not a copper path, but there will be paths where heat can get to HD. I don't know how much, but when I get my unit I will test it.

Yeah please read that... I'm an engineer I have read those years ago... :p
Seriously it will not hurt the HDD... Air is a nice heat isolator...

If you are very very concerned get a laser thermometer... And measure everything...

I have to say what I have had problem on previous laptop what was also very small and powerfull for gaming: LG P330 (i5 2435m cpu, gt 555m gpu, 16gb 1333mhz ram). I ordered it on end of January 2012 and it were broken on March between 20-29 or even sooner. My point is that it went over 90c and below it all the times and WITH GPU OC, gpu oc was almost all that time its limits. Maybe that was the why it went broken after all....?

The problem came like the screen was only black and didnt went ON. Only one time it went ON when I put ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF and finally ON, it started :) The last time, it was the second time, there were nothing to do... I have tolded that the motherboard has died... :(
But if the temps on this W110ER goes a little bit of 90c or even under and gpu is about 85c, its ok. It is good thing to know if 1900mhz is enough power to cpu need game like BF3? and temps are only about 75c :)

There are then also a OC POTENTIAL :D :D but own risk....check temps but better to lower the cpu clocks and rise those GPU clocks, its today, when its MORE important to get better GPU than CPU ;)

Well of course no guarantees can be given when you start OCing cpu and or gpu. And yeah hardware errors can always occur, but temp-wise current generation mobile GPU's and CPU's are built to handle 80+ constantly. As Intel states their official max temp of the Ivy Bridge quads is 105, it will clock down at 95 automaticly.

Suzaku6: Know one know is it OC or not because do that only with nVidia software :) And there were no errors etc when I used it.... It was only one day and it didnt started, I mean finally the second time :/
Sure over 80+ and 90+ is okey yet together CPU+GPU but I dont know... If I got some monday model of LG :D :(

Welp, I went ahead and pulled the trigger:

    - Standard glossy screen
    - i7-3610QM, stock paste (will redo with my own AS5)
    - Ordered separately: 8GB Corsair DDR3-1600 RAM, 256GB Crucial M4 SSD
    - Intel 6230 WLAN
    - No Windows or Office (have my own)
    - 120w power brick, yadda yadda

Ordered barebones from RJTech, $877.78 including shipping (+$269.98 for RAM and SSD, total of $1147.76). It'll be nice having a real laptop again---my last one was a Clevo D901C, and that behemoth could hardly be called a laptop.

Only EUROCOM has this laptop with the i7-3820QM. (IVY BRIDGE 8MB Cache) 2.7GHz.

This is a Clevo laptop, but not branded as Sager, its a EUROCOM brand.

I got it with the i7 3820QM CPU, everything else is only base config, 4GB ram and 500GB HDD.

But I plan to upgrade the RAM to 8GB 1600MHz from ncix.com:
    Kingston HyperX Plug N Play 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1866 CL11 NON-ECC 204PIN SODIMM Memory Kit - Kingston - KHX1866C11S3P1K2/8G

I also plan to get a MAX IOPS from ncix, SSD 256GB:
    OCZ Vertex 3 Max Iops 240GB 2.5IN SATA3 6Gbps Sandforce SF-2281 Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD - OCZ Technology - VTX3MI-25SAT3-240G

Do you guys think the i7 3820QM will cause any issues? I dont see how it will, becuase its the same 45W as the other IVY BRIDGE. And only EUROCOM sells this bigger faster 8MB cache CPU.

Please give me some feedback on the CPU!

Ouch, bad choice on the decision to go with Eurocom, they have a horribly bad reputation and for good reason. I feel It's my responsibility as one of the many customers who have been burned by Eurocom, to warn you that you might want to consider another company despite that CPU option. You should read here http://forum.notebookreview.com/reseller-feedback-forum/428769-fair-legal-business-practices.html and here http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...isclosure-my-very-bad-experience-eurocom.html. Okay, if they try to ship me an engineering sample CPU or some overheated over clocked and tested in there back store computer I will send it back and complain to MasterCard for my refund.

Its too bad i already ordered this system :( now im worried ??

but, give me some feed back on the CPU?

Just check your system well when you receive it and make sure that everything you ordered is the way you ordered it, and examine the whole laptop very carefully. As for the CPU even though it's rated at 45w, it may run hotter than other 45w CPU's. As of right now there are no W110ER reviews with that CPU in it.

Hey man, as of right now??

ya, as of right now I cant find any reviews, Just some guy playing BF3 with no audio, and another guy sitting outside showing us the manual and BIOS screen...

So, to your comment of no reviews with that CPU, well ya, also no reviews with any CPU. And if you found a review (I mean a real proper review, not what i listed above) then link us so we can see.

    And guys, forget matte screens!!

You need to do better research. There are multiple reviews with the 3610QM, one of them is here http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-np6110-clevo-w110er-first-look-review-9.html, the rest I'm sure Google can help you with.

That depends on your work environment and personal taste.

Regarding the CPU no one here can give you facts. Eurocom is the only one who has the 3820qm listed.
Most common offers now are the 3610qm and 3612qm.

HTWingnut is working on a proper review, he's one of the first ones who already have their W110er.

    Ya, nice try.

This is a quote from the link you gave above, in post #1:
"I will write this post as more of a blog entry until I can finally get the thing up and running and do a formal review."

Like I said, there is no 'review' yet. Its too new and only a hand full of people have them.

I would constitute a review as someone using a video camera and doing a walk around the system, then showing a few boot tests of windows booting with a timer, and then some gaming, and other 'stuff'.

In all i want to see a good 5-10 min video of this.

So far, nothing. We came close but not there yet with a proper review.

    Intel's web page says:
"System and Maximum TDP is based on worst case scenarios. Actual TDP may be lower if not all I/Os for chipsets are used."

That means 45W is in the worse case and could be lower.

So, why would you think my 2.7GHz cpu from EUROCOM is going to maybe run hotter?

The Intel manufacture says "TDP may be lower".

But you know you can have sunlight indoors also?
And no, its not always avoidable.

If you are in a generally darker environment the screen doesn't matter.

In my case when i'm sitting in the train for 6hrs I cannot avoid sunlight. And I use it also for my work in this time. So a matte screen would be better.

But as I said before, its a huge portion of personal taste also. If you don't like matte screens thats your opinion. But you cannot say "forget matte screens" in general.

    Advantage:
when your on the train, or sitting in the street gaming/working you'll have no glare.

    Disadvantage:
The screen looks [please do NOT bypass the word filter] and colours look bad.

See these two pictures which prove both advantage and disadvantage's.

Another disadvantage would be the higher price of a matte screen.

In the end its everyone's own decision which type of screen one prefers.
(In my case, i'm used to glare and i like it :) )

How much do you people reckon external cooling like one of those cooler pads would be able to decrease temperatures?

is that the overpriced sony that has a external videocard from AMD?

How do you find the new computer from Clevo vs the sony?

Can you show how long it takes too boot up the Clevo computer? or do a video with them both booting up to see who wins?

sony would win if its running a SSD i guess, but do it anyway.

This is the VaioZ from 2010 with the nvidia 335m internal gpu, not the junk sony is selling now.

I just did a rough test and my sony booted up about 20 seconds faster than the Sager, which is to be expected since my sony has a SSD and the Sager is the barebone 500gb.

Not bad considering it's a two year old laptop.

I would like to know what CPU you got, sandy or ivy?

    What model is the CPU.

I ordered the Eurocom version of this laptop with the i7 3860qm which is not available on the segar version of this laptop. It has 8mb cache which is 2mb more than the 6mb sager is offering on there ivy bridge version.

Also, what do you plan todo for ram and hdd?

I have the sandy i5, because ivy doesn't seem like that important of an upgrade to wait for.

I'll keep the 8gigs of ram this monster came with but I might try to install a SSD later on if I'm feeling bold enough.

Ya? You have to wait for the ivy bridge?

Eurocom told me they will ship mine next week........ I'm confused

How long would you have had to wait if you wanted the ivy bridge from xoticpc?

And how do you find the LCD screen in comparison to the Sony, in terms of viewing angles and brightness overall. Also color saturations?
