Unfortunately, it seems like I too have the screen flickering problem described here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/screen-flickering-problem-with-clevo-p950hp6.826896/
and by others. Unfortunately I am out of the warranty period, and I live in Canada so sending my NP8950 to Sager will be very expensive. Do you guys know how easy the problem is to fix? Can I get it fixed by local shops?
The screen starts flickering semi-randomly, and moving the angle of the screen pretty reliably causes flickering. Also, turning the brightness above 30% causes constant flickering, which makes me think that the problem is a bad motherboard connection.
I really need this laptop for work/school so I'm in a rut. My reseller is also of absolutely no help. Seriously, never buy from ReflexNotebook, they will scam and ignore you.
Again, I'm desperate for a solution. Any help is appreciated.Last edited: Feb 12, 2019 -

The first step is to re-seat both sides of the display cable.

There is the motherboard side and the LCD side is behind the panel.

Has anyone determined a solid resolution on the P950HR screen flicker? Mine only seems to happen occasionally, will come in spurts (happening 3-5 times over a few days) and then goes week(s) without occurring. EVERY time, when the flicker happens, it's always when the laptop is cold. The flicker happens for around 30 seconds or so and then will not flicker again until the laptop is turned off and goes cold again.
Would love to hear from anyone with a solid "fix". Thanks in advance! -

Usually that's cable creep, it would be worth reseating the cables.
-
I'll give it a shot next time i have screen flashes and let you know what comes of it.

It does sound very minor in terms of coming loose but worth looking at as usually it would get worse over time.

Well I have a new problem now with my P950HP6. The exact same noise the fan is making in this video:
Ended up ordering a fan from: https://rjtech.com/shop/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=30616
to replace it... ugh, I'm starting to question the build quality of Clevos after the issue with the flickering screen and now this.Last edited: Mar 20, 2019 -

That sounds like it is rubbing on something, very odd.
-
My laptop is going to explode I think....
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well sounds like the fan is catching, have you opened the back and checked or called your reseller?
-
What do you mean by catching? I did open it look and didn't see anything wrong with the fan. I'm still waiting for the replacement to be sent.
-
A tutorial on how to do this can be found here:
I would use sewing machine oil, as it won't dry up and become a thick, greasy mess over time. -
I don't have sewing machine oil, but I do have some gun oil. Either way, I hope this will alleviate the problem at least until my replacement fan comes.
Noise level slightly improved for now until I have my new fan this weekend or early next week:

I replaced the fan and it's quieter than ever. Heck I almost think it's quieter than when I first bought the laptop.

This happened to my CPU fan twice now... I've had the notebook from Eurocomm for less than two years, the fan started making similar noises and I replaced it a few months ago. The new fan is starting to make grinding noises again already.

See what they say, it could be reasonable and it's the easiest way. Otherwise auction sites are the next step usually.

We need to seriously consider an aftermarket upgrade/ third party replacement. -

Anyone knows how to get a replacement for the lan port cover/piece? Mine broke and I can't seem to use the LAN Port now without taping the lan cable to the port.
This is the part I am referring to:

has anyone successfully upgraded the standard FHD panel to a UHD one?
I've found that there's a 4k panel replacement for the P950HP6, and that it requires a 40pin eDP cable instead of the standard 30pin.
Is there anything else that a swap requires in order for it to work properly? or is this enough? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Cable and panel should cover you though the cable is a tricky swap compared to the panel.

To route it properly I believe so just due to how it has to food through.

Is there a complete disassembly/ assembly guide for P957HR? I got my laptop repaired from a local shop and the fellow forgot to plug in the speakers. Getting tired of having to use headphones.
By local I meant 'national', as in 'in my country'. The shop is some 300 km away. I contacted them and they apologised and asked me to bring it back in, but it could be several weeks before I'm able to go there.
I have tools etc. I've opened it before, but not to the extent that this seems to require. -
Hi all,
My two-year-old P950HP (from Metabox, an Australian reseller) has developed a pretty serious fault wherein it boots for maybe five seconds before shutting down again. The fans spin up, screen comes on, but then it just fully crashes, and the technician I've taken it to suspects a motherboard fault. I'm looking around for replacement motherboards but I'm just wondering if anyone else has any experience with a similar fault before I go too far down that rabbit-hole.
If anyone knows of any dealers selling replacement motherboards that would be great, as I've not been able to find one from browsing various parts dealerships' catalogues online.
Any advice or experience much appreciated. -
1. Bad CPU fan. If the EC doesn't get a signal from the fan that it is running, it will shut the system down.
2. Bad thermal contact between CPU and heatsink. This is unlikely as any technician worth his name will have checked that right off the bat.
EDIT: You can try Aliexpress.com for parts - they have a fair amount of CLEVO P950 stuff. If it comes down to replacing the motherboard, consider an upgrade to P50HR (GTX1070MaxQ) or better. The company reps here will advise you what is possible and what isn't.Last edited: Sep 16, 2019 -
Forgive my naivety - but is it possible to just swap a P950HP for the HR motherboard directly? -

Just double check the port positions too.

Here's a couple of issue that I have encountered after using this device for two years now, this is the second Clevo laptop that I've own.
Despite all these issues mentioned, I've failed to return to my vendor on time for a warranty claim because they said they gonna get a loaner to me but after all those troubles the loaner didn't came. Sent a message to Clevo but same answer as before, "Please contact your vendor"
Here are the issues, minor and easy fix.
01 | Rattling CPU fan - Hardware issue
Really annoying during a meeting, I refuse to take out my laptop from here.
A little bit of WD40 fluid should do the job but as time goes by the rattle would return, I was told the bearing is poor. Perhaps I should get a gel type grease?
Current fix: Apply a drop of WD40 to the bearing from time to time.
02 | Keyboard keys not responding - Software issue?
Some keys are not working but holding it longer for a few seconds the key would response or smashing random keys on the keyboard would make the keys return to normal but a certain amount of time. Sometimes launching Clevo's flexikey would fix the issue as well. Might consider resetting the windows in the future.
Current fix: Using external keyboard.
03 | Audio jack not responding sometimes - Software issue?
Unplug or plugging the audio jack, the laptop would play through the speaker and ignore the audio jack plug. Very annoying.
Current fix: Restarting the laptop a FEW times would fix the error.
Tried: Uninstall and reinstall sound driver
04 | Monitor / LCD panel not responding on boot (MAJOR) - HARDWARE ISSUE
The LCD panel has been replaced once and the current one had issue like not responding on boot, suspect something wrong with the back panel.
Current fix: Need to apply constant pressure or rubbing on boot between the screen and the laptop case (just below the back illuminated part) and pray to God that it will light up (twice) during boot.
Current fix: Using external monitor.
I'm considering to order a new panel for the laptop but I'm not sure to order the panel or the cable, maybe both?
I've been lurking on this forum for quite some time and decided to come out and post these issues I have faced and hope anyone out there that had the same issue can see the current (temp) fixes.
I was told installing the CCC will improve the situation but the latest CCC requires a different BIOS version, when I ask my vendor on this they said my laptop wasn't supported. :<Last edited: Sep 30, 2019anytimer likes this. -

1) if it helps it could be the grease is no viscous enough.
2) specific keys or whole keyboard?
3) happening after sleep of the machine?
4) It's worth reseating the cable first. -
2. Specific keys. The keyboard is a POS. This is my second keyboard. Same fault, different keys. Unusable. Now using Microsoft WiFi Keyboard and Mouse 800. End result, can't take this laptop anywhere.
3. Known issue. No fix yet. No sound from headphones after waking from sleep. Workaround - don't let it sleep.
4. Very good tip. Fixed my flickering after an idiot laptop repair guy had opened my laptop. Note: the connector has to be pulled straight up - perpendicular to the motherboard surface. While you're there, make sure the cable is not getting pinched in the hinge. -
2) Specific keys: c, v, i, u, and etc. I just need to keep pressing several random keys at the same time to "unlock". Problem would return after a while.
3) Yes happening after sleep or even plugging in while in Windows. The "sure work" method for me is to plug in the jack first then only boot the laptop.
4) Sure, will give it a try now. -

You could check the keyboard cable is seated correctly too, those keys are not over traditional hotspots.

I'll never talk down to the on screen keyboard, it has saved too many servers
